Unbelievable. Did you even watch the game?

Some poor passes and then the two best passes of the game. If you're just going to hold your preconceptions and ignore what actually happened in the game, whats the point in posting. leading the motm poll today and rightfully so. Held our midfield together when Carrick and Pogba went missing.

Edit: 4 interceptions and 10 tackles.
This ^ We need an Herrera clone to partner Herrera.

Not convinced by his impact in the first half, neither he nor Carrick appeared able to build from the back, split opposition and settle the tempo.

Paid for it dearly, he looked better second half against a tiring Liverpool.

so let me sum his great moments up for you guys who haven't watched the game or think he was poor today, that alone should make you quit watching football...

  • he had a fantastic interception which led to Pogba chance where he couldn't hit the goal
  • he won the freekick on the edge of the box
  • he's played Mhkitaryan on the goal, who failed to score
  • he played through Valencia who had so much space to attack but failed to deliver a good cross for Fellaini/Zlatan
  • clever play for stopping the counter, they were going 3 on two
  • before that I remember he had decent cross from the right, hasn't hit the first player and found our player, seems like impossible from our palyers lately so I'll give him credit for that too
  • that pass which we saw gif of with his outside of his foot was also sublime
  • had several other great interception mostly in the middle of the pitch
  • pressed all game and never stopped running or fighting

yet there are people who will moan about his long passing, he must have played 3/4 passes which caught my eye and weren't good but at least once Rooney stopped his run and you can't blame a player to try to pass it long when a team like liverpool press, especially when the game absolutely bypassed Pogba who couldn't complete any decent notable pass himself and basically didn't create chance a chance, well I am not counting those two great opportunities for Liverpool in each half and penalty, maybe he should have hoofed that and wouldn't put us under pressure...

so it's good to see herrera step up and taking the responsibility of creating not only fulfilling his defensive duties.. maybe if Pogba played half good like against the relegation sides and Carrick had legs we could have done better...

it was a ONE MAN show in the middle of the pitch and that is why he's easily MOTM for me, the second candidate could possibly be Rojo

Well he had clear instruction to lead the press if you didn't notice, and it's not easy to dictate the tempo when Carrick always struggle against high pressing teams and Pogba is not there, he had a decent first half considering he was there alone, managed to create three great goalscoring opportunities, sometimes it's not about having control and passing it around, that's what Mancity tried today and lost 4:0 against Everton but they managed to take their chances on counter

This. The foul on Firmino, the timing the position were just fantastic

He gave the ball away often. He misplaced a fair few quite simple passes. His choice of pass was often rubbish. Yeah he ran around a lot and put in some tackle's, but that's no excuse to for being poor on the ball.

You're wasting your time. If someone thinks Herrera doesn't really offer us anything today's performance won't change their minds.

I just don't understand it at all, because he's been fantastic for us, particularly this year when he seems to have benefitted from having the manager's full backing.

This.

Excellent performance, given the magnituted of the game, and some of his through balls are a delight to watch

Don't get the criticism of him today, outside of a few misplaced paces which was a given considering Lpool's pressing.

Thought he was our best player.

He gave the ball away often. He misplaced a fair few quite simple passes. His choice of pass was often rubbish. Yeah he ran around a lot and put in some tackle's, but that's no excuse to for being poor on the ball.
you can't be any more wrong, it's joke of a comment, but I guess for some ppl it's hard to understand a game of football, when they are totally drunk or never played the game themselves

Bar some horrendous passes I thought he was brilliant. Played with his heart on his sleeve, could've had an assist, and didn't shrink under pressure like Carrick and Pogba.

He was sloppy in his pressing today but his midfield partners didn't help him. Carrick's change put more responsibility on his shoulders. Still he had a good game and created some chances. Pogba and Mkhi should have buried theirs.

Think he's quite becoming our Carrick now. He has to play for us till he's 33/4 before he get his little recognition.

A lot of us are complaining about his long rang passing and yes his were not that good because he's not scholes. What you expect him to do when two of his fecking midfield partners were disappear the whole game. He basically has to do most of the job himself especially 2nd half. And, yes, he's allowed to waste a few passes because only him that attempts to play to the attacking players. We'd be watching the passes between our goalie and defenders the whole game if he's not trying those bad long range passes.

He was. But people always bitch and moan. Herrera was pretty much alone in the midfield.

Its ok to like a player but be critical. I agree with most of the comment you quoted and that long, very biased post further up the page. He had excellent moments today and some proper shit ones. Yeah hes important for us but he was not perfect today. Pointing out his mistakes is ok, as is pointing out what he did well.

He probably wasn't helped today by carrick and pogba being awful.

Putting these together just because. Thanks GifLord. Always delivers.

Name a player in the world today that could have done a good/great job in the game that he had to play today? And what I mean by that is two midfield partners gone missing against a high energy pressing Liverpool team.

I can think of Modric, Vidal, Veratti and Rakitic.*

All of those play in a 1-2 team league and dominate their games through their superiority by virtue of their quality in every position.

Not saying he doesn't deserve criticism but your standards are incredibly high when that's all you got to say for his performance today.

*I deliberately excluded players like Iniesta, Kroos, Thiago, Busquets etc because no they wouldn't be able to steady the shop and absolutely would have got crowded out and become ineffective without the help of other team mates.

I've noticed how many opposition fans are starting to hate on him, he must be really irritating to play against.

I wouldn't usually argue with you, but he was our entire midfield. Carrick was non existent and Pogba was a liability. Carrick went off, Pogba was that bad they just left him to get on with basically nothing. He is the only one who presses against a team who do it as a unit. Today we needed more energy in there with him. He was not great, but there were far worse culprit than him. I despaired when they brought Rooney on.

Christ almighty, what game were some of you watching. Passing was abysmal
They were, but that unfortunately is not his skill, his is pressing and trying to move the ball quicker, not necessarily with Hollywood balls. That is supposedly Carrick's skill, yet he got hauled off because he cannot cope with pressing, so now teams know how to wreck his game.

Can't say that was a particularly good performance. Whole midfield wasn't very good. Way to many passing mistakes and too often a loss of ball in a dangerous position.

Everyone gave the ball such was the intensity of the game. Our teams pass percentage was 76%.

If that was a great performance we are in trouble.

We would be more fluid if we had someone in there with good passing range. Herrera is good but I think we can do better.
I am giving up commenting on those shit posts like yours, so let me try one last time...

No it was a great performance and I mentioned what he's done in the game in one of my comments above and explained wha he was so good in the game..

good passing range blablabla... yeah Carrick hadn't had a decent pass while being absolutely nonexistent in the game and had arguably more time on the ball due to his deeper starting position. He's one of those players who complement Herrera with long range passing but couldnt cope with the pressure like he's used to but not his problem we rely on him at 35...

Pogba is another player who complements Herrera and Carrick, he's the main creative force, he's the one with one of the best passing range in the world of football, yet he hasn't manage to complete a single decent pass let alone long range pass, he wasn't there and lost the ball to two very dangerous counters and conceded penalty, maybe he should have hoofed it and we wouldn't be in trouble when he's not u the pace of the one of the best pressing teams...

Did you know that football is a team game? Did you? Midfield especially ours consists of three players, every player is strong in some parts of his game, that's why you have, let me explain for dummies, two basic type of midfielders more defensive minded and more offensive minded

our situation is a bit more complicated we have three, the deepest one is consistent player with composure and great distribution while having a good positional sense to cut off some passes - yes! that's Carrick he's unfortunately quite too old so he can't really run around and needs other midfielders round him and to help him with tackling especially when he plays too deep and himself isn't roy keane..

the second one is a flair player with great physical strength and endless creativity, capable of all sorts of passes, decent one on one, great shot and with other skills, well you name it and while he's pretty quick he's little too slow on a turn and it'd be courageous to call him dynamic, he lacks positional disciplined and tends to try hollywood passes which can create chances, taking shots which can mean goals and he's really given all the world's time to enjoy himself on the pitch. Yes it's Pogs

So in order to have the two mentioned players play to their strenghts we have another player who is sort of sacrificed and is their to make up the running for Carrick and partly for Pogs, he keeps the game simple because he knows we have two wonderful passers of the ball, it's hard to believe they ain't Scholes.. while doing that, with his great first touch, he has ability to keep the ball and also when we don't have it he relentlessly press the opposition, make all the running and tries to win the ball back. he never let's the team down and barely looses the ball he's where he needs to be, I could go on about his qualities but let's keeep it simple and say that he contemplates other two players really well..

So what if the two players decide to have a shocking game and don't provide what they're known for? No Ander Herrera doesn't hide himself he doesn't fecking hide himself and 6 created chances for an average player who is only good at simple things is fecking huge, it'd be a huge number for any defensive midfielder in the world in 3 fecking games. 4 interceptions and 10 tackles, dropped the mic...

So who cares he's not capable playing hollywood crossfield passes, he just creates chances differently and his main job is winning the ball back and keep the midfield ticking running for his less dynamic players... so I don't fecking care if he hoofes the ball 3 or four times and he can't find the target, it's understandable when it's not his main job and Liverpool are pressing hard and neither Pogba or Carrick are capable of doing shit..

And if you can't understand things as simple as this then you should probably quit watching football. Posts like yours are just super annoying and I will probably ignore your posts because it's just complete waste of time. Well I think I tried my best and it's my last try..

so can you point out those bad moments he had? I am just curious, I am sure that a player who is creating chances should be forgiven a few misplaced passes, sure he wasn't perfect but easily MOTM from our team, but imo he couldn't do more against high pressing Liverpool team especially when like you pointed out Carrick and Pogba weren't there and he was forced to play more of their game. He was actually the only player who had the guts to do something with the result...

^Well said.

Ridiculous expectations for some people with no context taking into account.

Edit:

For some people to say he had a good game, he'll need to take the ball from deep, stride past an intense Liverpool press, lay off a perfect ball into a team mate's feet, burst into the box and roll it across for a tap in.

Or control the ball on his own, hold it under the pressure and Iniesta his way and create a chance for our 'dominant' front three. Oh and be in position to tackle and harry and press and give an option for our defenders and make up for Pogba/Carrick. On his own.

I love this guy. Probably our smallest midfielder but he's the one with the most bite.

Makes too many errors in his passing for my taste. Although he looks good against average teams, we should really look for an upgrade, keeping him as an impact sub.

you can't be any more wrong, it's joke of a comment, but I guess for some ppl it's hard to understand a game of football, when they are totally drunk or never played the game themselves

Turns out you couldn't paint yourself as anymore of a twat with that post. So well done you. I'll now reply to some sensible posts.

Putting these together just because. Thanks GifLord. Always delivers.

Just because your two mates are a bit shit, doesn't mean his passing and choices should also suffer. Yes he had more work to do then usual to do, but if he's not doing the basic things he does every week right, then I can't be happy with that performance.

Agreed that they were both crap and worse then Herrera, still didn't mean he was good himself though.

I actually thought Rooney was alright when he came on.

Everyone gave the ball such was the intensity of the game. Our teams pass percentage was 76%.

Exactly, our passing on a whole was shocking, and I expect better from Pogba, Herrera and Carrick in that regard. Yes it was intense, but that doesn't mean you can mess up simple passes, or play it into trouble.

No we should be looking to replace Carrick who was a non appearance today which left all, yes all the midfield work on Ander. Pogba was in cloud cuckoo land. He has to do everything himself today. Carrick cannot cope with a side who put the slightest pressure on him and cannot play too many game. He should be given a one year contract and a world class player signed in his place to go with out midfield engine Ander Herrera and a hopefully, very talented but more focused Paul Pogba. Everyone screams about Carrick has to be in the side, well today he was, I think he was anyway, until halftime.

I'm not going to go into it as someone who doesn't bother to follow our conversation will jump all over me and say i don't understand football. Like i said, he had some good moments, and some not so good ones.
