Covers every blade of grass. Another tenacious display.

He needs to cut out trying to volley the ball in from ridiculous angles from distance - he just doesn't have the technique for it.

Sorry, noticed something about your posts. Which players in our team do you fancy?

No hard feelings.

DDG Valencia Baily Smalling Shaw Pogba Carrick Martial Pogba Bastian Zlatan Mykytarin Rashford TFM mostly.

Not very great today, silver lining though is that he always plays a blinder after he has had a sub-par performance.

Even when not at his best he sets the tempo for the entire side. We'd be considerably worse without him in the side.

He is definitely not a classy passer of the ball
He played a delightful reverse pass for Bailly tonight. Not Pogba levels but he still has plenty of ability on it.

Needs to realise that sometimes he has the time to control the ball and turn instead of just passing straight back. He has the ability in tight spaces to turn and run at the defense but at times refuses to do it. Hopefully the 433 is a regular thing now and he can realise this side of his game over time. Performances have been very good but ability wise he's capable of even more.

Is there a better word than "skittish" to describe him as a player? That's not a praise or slight by the way just a random musing.

Pogba had words with him tonight a few times when stuff didn't come off. I really like Ander. He's my favourite united player after a few seasons of not having one to be honest. He lets the flair players operate and he's passionate. Lovely all round footballer on his day too.

Reminded me of Fletch in his prime with his workrate today. Obviously a bit more gifted footballer on the ball.

Attacking wise this is not a good game for him. However, I think we're too narrow and crowded in the central area with Palace pressed well making our passers having a harder time to get it going. Mata had a bad day too, 2 games in a row as starter I see that his touches are sub par to his usual standard, and his tendency to drift inside just make it too counter productive for our midfield. We really lack some dribbling and run in behind with Mikhi and Martial absence.

Pretty much what everybody else is saying. Not his best game, but he still looked decent. His hardwork and pressing is a good thing for our midfield. Hes got an engine and imo should be our captain next season.

At Old Trafford hes always outstanding. When he plays away he looks like a shadow of the player he really is.

Yeah I agree he is capable of the sublime through ball or give and go but his passing can be erratic also. Great player to have about the squad but can't fully join the love in.?

Yeah I'd agree. He definitely has the ability but we as a team don't play those sort of balls in those tight spaces and he's not really in a position to do it being the box to box midfielder i.e he should be the one playing those balls to the receiver; Miki has the ability and does it, Mata doesn't, Lingard/Martial/Rashford etc has but we don't see enough of that kind of on the turn/intricate play.

Subpar game for his standards. I expect more attacking instincts and play from him but hopefully that will come in due course; still feel like he's (rightfully) playing within himself to supplement the talents of the others around him.

I fear he is becoming a pure workhorse. I want see him playing more long range passes or neat passe in between the lines, we all know he is capable of them.

Used to love how some fans last season would call him the fans darling, when fans defending herrera knew the quality's he brings, and he is showing why fans could not believe how VG was overlooking Herrera for guys like fellaini, even Jose was doing it at the start of the season. But it shows how complete madness it was to see him has a bench player, him and pogba really are the heartbeat of this engine room. There is always that fear if he is rested, what we have after herrera should have been sold in the summer

To be fair to lvg he was playing quite a bit below average for a decent amount of time during his first two seasons. Think this season you are seeing a player who is familiar and fully acclimated to the premier league. Also think Pogba's arrival has had a big impact on his game for the better.

He wasn't good today but as people have pointed out he's been great recently so he definitely gets a pass.

*Just as a side note...I was watching some interview with him on Youtube and you can really tell what an intelligent and thoughtful player he is. A real student of the game it seems like. Not sure what his plans are after retirement but i guarantee if he goes into management he will be a top top coach. You heard it here first!

I am sorry but this is not true at all by implying he is doing well hugely due to being familiar with the league. The truth is LVG tried to take the aggressiveness out of his game, while requires him to adapt to become like someone like Bastian which of course he can't. Mourinho find him a role that brings the best of his natural ability. Had LVG still been in charge with that volley Herrera took in the second half (way off), he would have been benched for months to come ("You shall always take a first touch and look first before shooting") despite great performance in the past.

He just made a goal winning one last game?
The one that set up Mkhitaryan against Spurs?

Yeah that's kind of what I am saying, he does them sometimes but I want to see him try them more often. I understand he did one recently but that doesn't necessarily mean he does them often. We all know he can do them but I think in the patch of form in LVG's first season where we looked very good he was a bit more creative than he is now.

I never said it was "hugely" due to that. Just said it was a contributing factor to his success, as is his pairing with Carrick and Pogba. No idea what you are on about talking about a second half volley. I assume its some anti-lvg over exaggeration that's not true

It's absolutely true not some exaggeration.

Once we get a proper replacement for Carrick then Ander can focus on his attacking game a tad more right now he is Carricks legs and that means he has to put more emphasis on providing defensive coverage and just feeding Pogba with possession.

He's probably also just enjoying being part of the first team again. Once his confidence grows he will reach a better balance between defending and attacking.

Haha, I know the lvg quote hes talking about regarding "composure" before shooting.
But my apologies you're right, if he was in charge today he would have benched Herrera for months to come for that volley

Dare I say he looked a little fatigued today. He looked downright knackered at one point, but when we were 2-1 up he looked to have regained his energy, buzzing around the pitch like a man obsessed. Not his best game, but important.

What is it with Carrick's legs? How many counters did Carrick stop yesterday actually running down players? Sure he is quite slow on the first few yards, but he hardly stands around with his hands in his pockets. It's another Carrick myth, and there have been some. Carrick isn't responsible for Herrera being sloppier with the ball yesterday than in the last matches.

I think that he's fading a bit recently. He seems tiring a little these days, but the issue is that we can't really do without him in midfield as we don't have enough quality there.

I would like to bench him a week or two in January before the big games in late January and February.

In his post-match press conference, Jose said that Ibra told him that Herrera was tired, which is why he dropped into midfield to help out.

He got cramp after he won that free kick. Ibra went cm Rashford up top and they shoved Ander wide left out of the way. Ibra made the call because you can clearly see him shouting and both Ander and Rashford, obviously to change it

Thought last night was his worst performance in a while, But those days happen so not going to micromanage the performance too much.
