He's as good as any box-to-box midfielder I've seen in ages. The only thing that keeps me from calling him 'the best' is the fact he's only been doing it for a few months.

Who else is capable of putting in that display of harrying, energy, and passing? The assist for Mkhitaryan is an example of what elevates him above almost every other B2B player. Talented players like him are usually content to be lazy. Herrera marries English work ethic with Spanish skill.
He never hesitates on the ball too long, he always tries to release the ball quickly when in the final third, little bit more cautious when it comes to play in our third but that's how it should be... definitely one of the best midfielders in the league if not the best this year..

He is still fairly underrated for the fact that he's seen as advanced midfielder but if he was considered defensive midfielder he could be there up top with anyone, he got better in that department massively, interceptions tackles, always sets the counter really quickly which is also very important for every Mourinho team

Fantastic. Today was up there with his display against Liverpool, which is to say an absolutely magnificent performance.

That cute ball he got from Carrick behind Spurs' defense and the subsequent layoff for Pogba/Martial was so satisfying.

His return pass/give and goes technique is brilliant. It's always a solid pass back to feet/just in the right space for the player to receive and run onto etc. There are times when it's sloppy and he overplays situations but more often than not, it's because of his ability and playing inbetween the lines that there's room to breathe and we play out of pressure/create opportunities.

The most similar comparison would probably be Rakitic, who has goals in his locker, something Ander could improve on. Other than that, Modric, Verrati and some of the Atletico midfielders (Saul/Koke) I guess; different stylistically but sort of similar positions for their respective teams.

He was brilliant again today, only edged out for MOTM by Mkhitaryan, his work rate is excellent, gets up and down the pitch, covering, tackling and can pass the ball well also.

People talk about Jose's team selection but kudos to him for dropping Fellaini for Herrera and well done to Herrera for grabbing the opportunity! A real fan favourite of a player, great attitude, great work rate and a very good player.

the type of player that plays for the club rather than the himself. Valencia, Jones as well as Herrera give it there all every game even when they are out of form you can still see they are giving 100%.

Even if they aren't considered the best in there positions in football, I would much rather have these players than those who play because it's there job.

Excellent caption  ..

I remember that ''foul'', diving prick!

Neville was trying to act like it was an actual 'foul' on Sky Sports too! Sometimes he goes too far trying to prove he's impartial.

Erikssen collapsed like the walls of Jericho when he hadn't even been touched.

Everywhere today. Never stopped talking either. He's been phenomenal

so now he collected another world class performance against another big opponent, now he dominated Chelsea, Spurs, City, Liverpool at least once.
He's a definitely big game player and again I can't wait to unpack the delivery form the official store as I ordered his shirt, certainly wasn't a mistake!

it's like saying it's brave to bench Bendtner for Sanchez. Mou will shown big kudos when he finally ditches rooney and fellaini himself

Absolutely controlled the game. With him and Le Pog at the middle, I now have 100% confidence in us whenever we're in a gritty, tightly contested match.

except in 4 of last 5 games which had gritty endings, we could not see out the game to win.

Just saying ....

Really good again. His pressing is fantastic. Lovely weighted pass to Mkhitaryan too.

Covered more ground (11.4km), made more tackles (5) and interceptions (4) than any other player.
2 days after playing 90 mins in Ukraine.
Absolute beast and my MOTM. Plays like our captain, even without the armband.

Agree with all of this. It obviously depends on what kind of game you want to play. Sometimes a high pressing game is not the best solution, especially if the opposition has as good on the ball ability as Barca - they will exhaust you. Ferguson was brilliant in that aspect, most of the time. Especially Arsenal, he just let them deep into our half and then countered. You need fast attackers for that. Not sure we are quite there yet

Well if we look at our 4 of the 6 players in our midfield and attack, they could be that, pogba, herrera, miki and martial do embody that quick counter attacking speed we could posses, problem we have had all season we have not had these key players playing at the same time, in the right system. If we look at the start of the season, our quickest players have not been played enough, we have seen players like rooney and fellaini shoehorned into the team, now we are seeing the right players playing, and less rooney, fellaini, lingard, more of the likes of mata when he is used, carrick, herrera, miki, who are the key cogs in the united team's creativity, and they set the tone of how we play and hurt teams.

The heart beat of the team. We need a deep lying playmaker after Carrick retires because we already have the defensive workhorse (with some tasty skills) to play alongside him.

Club captain in waiting.

He's got to be our next captain surely? proper class, on and off the pitch. Add a few more goals to his game and he'll be something else.

Was brilliant today, he's got an incredible gas tank, splendid technique and he's a proper warrior. Tho those little unnecessary tackles he's giving away in dangerous areas can be nasty to defend against like it was the case against West Ham last season.

But other than that little fact he was brilliant, his attitude is superb and i can definitely see why people are calling for him to be the captain. Why is Zlatan captain number 3 and not him?

I can see him taking over the holding MF role when Carrick retires, especially knowing that Carrick himself wasn't the player he is today when he was in Herrera's age. Could be that Mourinho is moulding him in the same way SAF did it with Carrick.

Hard to think of a better midfielder in the league this season.

Coutinho as an AM maybe, but struggling to think of many in CM. Kante perhaps after his early wobbles.

I think Emre Can has been exceptional every time I've seen him this year. But it'd be hard to argue he's as important for Liverpool as Herrera is to us.

He really is the complete package. Excellent on the ball, amazing off the ball. He was the first to press Spurs and when with the ball, he was as slick and clever as usual

Pretty much this. He is also surprisingly quick off the mark and very agile, but his top speed is almost Mata-esque. His pressing is immense though, and his engine is tremendous. It's also so good that we now actually have two central midfielders who can dribble past players whilst still being good defensively.

not particularly big either, as in the infamous "needs to bulk up" meme kind of way, but never shies away from a tackle and i haven't seen him getting bullied. dude is a fighter. one with great vision and technique.

First name on the team sheet for me

He's excellent.

I was unsure about him as a Mourinho midfielder, but he's basically the perfect partner for Carrick/Pogba.

Love him! Not only does he work his ass off, he's excellent on the ball. Carrick must love playing alongside him, he does all the running for him.

Captain material.
