He really should be captain. Setting the standards for the rest with his consistent efforts.

Eric Dier said he'd see Herrera today. Spurs better hope he learned from what he saw. Top drawer performance from Ander.

Energy, energym energy. As I said before, if provides a perfect balance for our midfield. Didn't stop running as usual today. There were so many good performances today that I didn't give him man of the match, but on another day he would have easily got it.

My favourite United player. Knows what it means to play for a club like ours. Hope he is here for many years and retire here gracefully like his passing.

More i watch him, more i like him. He is one of those players who's the opposition midfield must absolutely hate.He cuts lines , makes interceptions, constantly tackles, fouls if needed. I'm so glad we have him

He has been outstanding so far this season and our best midfielder by a mile. His defensive awareness has improved drastically and tackles have been successful more often. He is turning into an all round midfield and it's a shame he is not going to win a lot this season because of individual mistakes by his teammates.

Its an important part of his game. It breaks up moves, unsettles opponents, and almost always works in our favour.

It is and I like that too. But I'm talking about recent unecessary fouls that he gave in dangerous areas, also resulted in numerous yellow cards for him. He just needs to be smarter about them I guess

Sometimes you need to know when to foul and when not to. You have to put the team before yourself. There are various advantages, drawbacks and risks associated with fouling. I agree with you, I think Herrera is very clever with his challenges.

Love the guy but surely I can't be the only one who's annoyed by his niggling unneccesary fouls?

We love them too! He is always fighting, scurrying around the pitch; of course there will be a foul here or there, but I want him to just continue with it. I think he pisses off the other oppo's midfielders.

Yeah there are some that cross the line but very few times have I thought he has put us in trouble. There was a spell when Pogba kept doing it, constant fouls in dangerous areas and obviously Fellaini is the same. With Herrera I always think it isn't due to mis-timing but because he can't get the ball and can see a situation developing.

Dedication.

Shows he gives a shite.

Exactly - I would never want him to give that up. Just as I never wanted Scholes to give that up.

I particularly noticed Herrera, Rojo and Jones today and the way they would not let our players relax for a second. We need those players; not every player needs to be like that. Martial is cool, but we need a combination.

He walks a fine line. I'm a fan of his but agree he needs to cut the theatrics out (especially trying to land penalties). Love the fact that he's got a mean streak in him though.

Yeah it is not enough for an individual to be like this. It needs to be a team ethic. Pressing the opposition can be so effective if done correctly, the best example in modern history is barca. For all their wonderful on the ball ability, the way they were able the press the other team and force mistakes was incredible. They are still wonderful at that aspect of the game now, if we could becoming more motivated to retrive the ball I would be delighted. Feel like ander is a big aid in not only pressing the ball himself, but allowing and motivating others to also do so.

Wish we were able to pick up kante in the summer. MF of Kante, Ander and Pogba would have been incredible.

Agree with all of this. It obviously depends on what kind of game you want to play. Sometimes a high pressing game is not the best solution, especially if the opposition has as good on the ball ability as Barca - they will exhaust you. Ferguson was brilliant in that aspect, most of the time. Especially Arsenal, he just let them deep into our half and then countered. You need fast attackers for that. Not sure we are quite there yet

It does vary depending on your opposition. I also don't think we have the players to build our team around a pressing system. When I watch I notice we tend to play well in periods, and this periods tend to happen when we arr playing with high intensity, and pressing the opposition. These days all top clubs play a combination of different types of football, possession/counter-attack/pressing etc etc.

I know due to physical limitations we wouldnt be able to play at high intensity all the time, however Ander seems to have a really good work rate.

We seem to take our foot off the gas sometimes, especially in the later stages of games when we are protecting a lead. We tend to drop deep and allow the opposition too much space and time on the ball in dangerous positions. This IMO is because we are not pressing the opposition down in the correct way in the correct positions.

Hard to think of a better midfielder in the league this season.

Coutinho as an AM maybe, but struggling to think of many in CM. Kante perhaps after his early wobbles.
Kante and Matic have been crucial to Chelsea's winning ways. Fernandinho has been pretty good too despite the little support he gets. Lallana's been excellent.

He's as good as any box-to-box midfielder I've seen in ages. The only thing that keeps me from calling him 'the best' is the fact he's only been doing it for a few months.

Who else is capable of putting in that display of harrying, energy, and passing? The assist for Mkhitaryan is an example of what elevates him above almost every other B2B player. Talented players like him are usually content to be lazy. Herrera marries English work ethic with Spanish skill.

Excellent game. Was everywhere today. Left, right, center, attack defend, shoot, pass, foul...love it. He is so important to our game, shows everything Mourinho is about on the pitch.

I said it earlier on in the week - He is my favourite person within the club at the moment. His energy and heart is driving us at the moment.

Well played sir.

Loved this look and fist pump he gave Fellaini whilst being subbed, as if to say...you got this, no messing about just go and get it done! @GifLord what are the chances of getting that mate?

Amazing to think how much Van Gaal stifled him (and that Moyes chose to buy Fellaini instead of him)
Brilliant player and so reliable. It's not even like we didn't know he was capable of this. He put in plenty of quality performances in for LvG in the first season, but LvG never fully trusted him and kept dropping him for no reason. Or wanted him to change too much. Either way, delighted he has been so good this season.

He is wonderful! adds much needed fight to the team and wants to win and contest every tackle! moaning at the fef and actually caring about the result are not qualities you primarily look for in a player but he really is soo important to this Mourinho team!

Captain material for sure!
