Just throwing it out there that if Fellaini made the tackle that Herrera did, his thread would have gained a good couple of pages by now.
The point isn't that Fellaini did it once. He always does it. Thats the point.

He deserves that. He's a classy player and one I'm worried about facing when we play you. He should be an automatic starter at United so I find it strange that a manager like Mourinho preferred Fellaini at first.

I think it's well deserved, who is the coach now?

really liked his performance, this doesnt show it all but one of the highlights for me is the interception of Shakiri's ball.. only good palyers can paly more positions well and he certainly is one... and noone is claiming we might need to line up with one more midfielder in tough games but when shaw is back, it should be blind/schneiderlin...

lol at these Carrick comments, if anything Carrick should feature against weaker sides, not tougher more dynamic games.. and get over it it's his last season and he's 35, he's no fecking scholes who was absolute world class passer at that age and even back then it was clear we are getting overrun by tougher sides, or just not creating enough with 5 midfielders

Congrats to Ander but that is one more player to worry about getting injured in this dull international break.

Great news for Ander. Deserved it.

In this role, I don't want Herrera more than 35 yards away from his centrebacks. Let the fullbacks push up whilst Herrera drops between Bailly and Smalling. That gives us more width, better protection against counterattacks as well as more composed passing from the back. The video above shows exactly why he's not Carrick in terms of positioning.

We drew against Stoke because of poor shape at the back and a lack of clinical finishers getting into the box up front. Fixing Herrera will solve the former. It may even free up Mata to solve the latter.

Well done on Anders...finally getting some hard earned recognition :)

Very happy to hear this finally. Probably the international place with the strongest competition over recent years. Hopefully he grows in confidence from this.

We drew because De Gea fecked up. We had clinical finishers fecking up their chances. Admittedly he should be more protective in games against better opponents, but he wasn't the source of our loss, far from it.

Maybe I am rewriting history but it seems to me that in the last few years, the few times we have had a run of good games Herrera and to a small extent Mata were leading the midfield. Most notably when LVG used that 4-1-4-1.

Harera was the legs of that mid and he popped up with some goals and assists too. He seems like a player who gets better with every new game. Rotating him seems to really mess with his rhythm. Him and Martial. Every time they are benched they seem to take the a few games to click while people like Lingard, Rashford and Felaini just pick up from where they left.

If Mou persists with him, he will convince any doubters. I think he has not had a real chance to show how good he actually is.

Wow he really got called up. Really happy for him. He's exactly the type of midfielder Spain need and imo wouldn't look out of place in it as long as he doesn't lose his nerves/get caught up in it. It's no exaggeration in the past to see why there were rumours with him and Barca.

He can play first touch, isn't weak, plays progressive forward thinking football, can press, can receive and play in tight situations etc. If given the chance and he steps up, stylistically they may find him a very useful player, in the first team or as a squad member. Not sure how Spain play or line up nowadays but where would he play and in what type of role?

I really wouldn't be surprised to see him tried in place of Busquets as the sitting player. Busquets isn't getting the shield from his team mates in Enrique's team (less possession based and more open/find their front 3 as quick as possible) and is getting exposed a lot nowadays I'm told from a mate who supports Barca.

I've said it in the past but one the 'best' things about Ander was that he would get full rest during internationals (not that he played as a starter after it) so he was fully fit and fresh. It's a minor thing atm but it could be a problem, soI wonder how he handles all this new found game time. Mourinho needs to realise soon that a midfield 3 is needed to protect his players and the spine of the team.

Not sure how much he will play, but it will have given his confidence one hell of a boost and he will have spent 2 weeks keeping fit rather than lounging about. However if he does get injured I will change my tune.

It's great news. A real confidence boost for him and well deserved. I wouldn't mention injuries if it wasn't for the gypsy curse we're under since Fergie retired.

The kind of guys that got capped for Spain for a while, I am more surprised he hasn't got capped before. Hopefully a mainstay. I like our players being internationally capped. It shows quality in squad

Julen Lopetegui
oh cheers, just read on wikipedia that he couched U19-U21 sides in spain couple of years ago, could be good for spain, without seeing any game, I'd bet they played more aggressive football under him, no handball as it's the way football developed over last couple of years, no handball like under del bosque.. I am sure it would suit ander and without making the full transition to counter attacking offensive football he might become a great player for them, I can imagine him playing pretty well as no6, he might be great there for them as well as no8... should probably watch some of their games..

Its even more strange because LVG didn't fancy him either.

He's not amazing, and he has his issues but he's a good player and for the majority of his time at the club he should have been starting, but has had plenty of time where he wasnt.

Congratulations, hope he steps his game up even more. Many seem to have forgotten that he went missing quite often last season. I hope he can give us that consistency and go back to his 14/15 form, he was absolutely brilliant at times.

Surely Adidas can ship him some boots? I have seen the ones he bought, look weird and cheap

True, every time he played really well he'd mysteriously not be on the pitch for the next game and then he'd turn up on the bench for some reason.

Not really, pretty sure majority of people here admitted that he had shit season last season.

And I'd say his start of the season is maybe even better than the periods he had in his first season, I seriously think he is playing on a really high level, he's (one of) our best player so far.
