Oh yes, I didn't doubt you when you said he's been labelled overhyped or not good enough etc.
Yeah, i agree with what you said though, Van Gaal's management style was never going to get the best out of him, it's good to see him play to his true abilities and get the recognition he deserves, his attitude is exemplary!

I remember the Sky co-commentator Terry Gibson was being interviewed on Talksport and he was going mad about how LvG was using Ander and that he was wasting his talent.

Van Gaal thought Wayne Rooney, a career forward, was a better midfielder than Herrera. Based on that I can come to no conclusion other than Van Gaal's philosophy bamboozled even him.

Ander Herrera has been a top player for awhile. Anyone who saw Bilbao take us to the cleaners in 2012 knows this. David Moyes' dithering and Louis Van Gaal's lunacy nearly cost us a great player. Thank God Mourinho has sorted the situation out.

Serious question, do people (well those who were adamant before) want him replaced by somebody else next season?

Its strange cos he didnt start the season for us did he? iirc he came on second half against City at home, and pretty much went on from there.
And to think he seemed to be punished by LVG for pressing too much or leaving positions to try and win the ball back (not being static enough). Crazy.

There is plenty on people on here who claims he is not good enough for a side aspiring to win trophies, i strongly disagree. He might not be the next Pirlo or Iniesta, but hes as a complete a midfielder as they come these days. Great defensively, good technique and an eye for a pass

If only people in the Martial thread listened to you. Couldn't agree more with your point.

There's one big difference : When Herrera played in few games with LVG he always showed us what's the team missing for not playing and that LVG is the real idiot.

Martial isn't doing that at all. He needs to prove us before he proves to Jose that his manager is wrong to sub him , and that by giving great performance when he comes from the bench.

Herrera was already showing his quality whenever he played.

We could really do with another midfielder like him in the squad. Fellaini did great yesterday to be fair but he doesn't have the intensity, discipline and technical ability of Ander.

With Bastian and Schneiderlin both having left there's definitely room in the squad

He's underrated by united fans because a lot of us were reluctant to judge a midfielder after branding cleverly as second coming of Jesus.

Actually I think he is/was underrated because he did have some bad games and wasn't playing that well. Been excellent though, hope it continues and I'm confident it will!

His best talent is that he can perform a variety of tasks and even carry out opponent specific jobs which require a great attention to detail and discipline. He's a Swiss army knife of a midfield player that does so many things well, without necessarily doing one thing in particular at the highest level. That type of all around ability is very special thought and exceedingly rare.

Unique player.

i understand that the overall sentiment of your post is to praise him but i disagree that he doesn't do anything/one thing in particular at the highest level, his pressing play, work rate and the tempo he infuses into our play are of the highest level, you'd be hard pressed (ha) to find midfielders that are as good and as quick at closing down/applying pressure. his passing ability is also severely underestimated/underrated

Got sent this by a friend:
BREAKING: Real Madrid are plotting a swoop for Ander Herrera in an attempt to bring Eden Hazard to the club. [Various]

That Herrera\Hazard joking comments everywhere on Twitter are hailrous :lol: The highlight of the game.

I like how the fans started chanting his name too. Well deserved, he's a bit of a cult hero.

Vidal would have been perfect.

I bet Andre was awesome at P.E

He just has that look about him, such a well rounded footballer/sportsman.

Perhaps this is true, though I feel at times he can press too high in chasing the ball and leave gaps in the midfield which can be exploited, which is why I don't rate him as say the best at it, but it's very subjective. Where I do think he's at the highest level is versatility and ability to shape his performance to what the manager requires of him relative to a specific opponent.

He's the kind of hardworking players we need if we want to be successful again; not the like of Fellaini. Combines hard work with talent. Amazing player. Always rated him high since the 1st game he played for us in the USA preseason tour! He's like an hybrid of Keane and Scholes!

Another victim of LVG's horrible philosophy.
