Did anyone else shit it when he jumped into his celebration, like please don't injure your knees or something Ander.

The most underrated midfielder in the Premier League surely. A 9/10 performance today.

Very underrated and unappreciated and he really showed today how much he adds to the team.
My favorite MUFC player this season and future captain

He has more goals and assists combined (13) than Pogba's (12) while playing in a deeper position overall and having less appearances or minutes than him. That's pretty impressive.

The best part is that today's performance shows that he's clearly learned from his mistakes when compared to the FA Cup game and the sending off. Another dimension to his mentality, there.

Last time I saw a man marking job executed so well was Gattuso on Ronaldo when Milan spanked us 3-0 at the san siro. Absolute workhorse for the team, never stops, always gives 110%.

God I am so proud of him. What a display today, what an intelligent player and that pass to Rashford was sumptuous. He loves it here and I reckon Fergie would have loved him, pretty glad he didn't decide to feck off after his first season of ridiculous treatment from LVG.

Serious question, do people (well those who were adamant before) want him replaced by somebody else next season?

Its strange cos he didnt start the season for us did he? iirc he came on second half against City at home, and pretty much went on from there.
And to think he seemed to be punished by LVG for pressing too much or leaving positions to try and win the ball back (not being static enough). Crazy.

I absolutely love him. His work rate, intensity, passion and not to mention his actual ability and tenacity. Great player - and this isn't a kneejerk from today's game! He's had his share of average games since joining, but under Mourinho he's come to be one of our most important players.

Hope he gets the armband.

You are forgetting Park man-marking Pirlo. That was just pure art and an ingenius decision by SAF, will never forget that performance. Also reminded me of Herrera today.

What's crazy is that Louis used him in a similar role in our most successful run under him - when we won 6 league games on the trot in 2015, including Juanfield:

And vs. City when we won 4-2:

Then the Chelsea match happened where Ander played at 6, followed by losses to Everton and West Brom (where he made more passes than the entire opposition team) - and Louis reckoned it was better to scrap all the progress by marginalizing the likes of Herrera, instead of building on a functionally successful template - much like when he went turtle mode after that games vs Leicester (especially in relation to Di María's role), even though we were rollicking in the first half.

Love me a bit of herrera. Apart from being a great player the dirty Spainish whore loves the club too :drool::drool:

My friend, non-Utd fan, used to moan that LvG was wasting his abilities. Vouched that Herrera is capable of much much more and if LvG stays, Herrera should not waste his prime here.

Anyone else cursing Michael Oliver during yesterday's game? Mourinho had the same tactics for him and Oliver completely over-reffed and sent him off for the square root of feck all, destroying Mou's tactics. cnut.

LVG wanted a double pivot. That run was when LVG's hand was forced & he had to use a modern midfield 3. LVG's midfield 3 would be double pivot and a traditional no 10. Herrera ain't LVG's no 10. As one of the pivot role, Herrera as sole creative one is not that good: lack passing range, ability to carry the ball through midfield, complete control the tempo of the game. A sole defensive one for LVG would require calmer straits. Mourinho can adapt to players' ability & strait while still keep fundamental of his system, so it's no problem.

While it may not be possible to acquire a prime Roy Keane, Essien, Gilberto Silva... in near future, it's clear, as good as Herrera can be at times, he's not natural defensive midfielder for a 2 men midfielder especially to partner Pogba long term. He should be transferred though

We started this season Blind & Bailly as our starting CBs. It's understandable that we need to compensate the lack of physicality & aerial ability else where. In this case Fellaini in midfield. Ever since Blind was deemed as not suitable for CB role any more, Smalling get back & Herrera got the nod over Fellaini.

LVG is adamant with the positional play in his philosophy. Herrera went for pressing can be double edge (still this day) as it opened space for opposition if his pressing failed. LVG didn't try to build a system to take the best strait from the players. His aim always about the system & players need to learn to play with it even if it betrays their natural game.

He's underrated by united fans because a lot of us were reluctant to judge a midfielder after branding cleverly as second coming of Jesus.

Superb as always.......those talking nonsense on us needing an upgrade on Herrera need to take a look at themselves. He is our best midfielder by a mile. Upgrade the others and keep Herrera.

Yes because hes definitely not only now showing his potential and hasn't been average at best over the past 2 seasons.

Van Gaal would have made Zidane look average with his tactics and philosophy. He didn't know how to get the best out of Herrera and even played him as an attacking mid with Rooney behind him in his first season. He has a manager who believes in him now and it's showing in his performances.

Love me a bit of herrera. Apart from being a great player the dirty Spainish whore loves the club too :drool::drool:

Also big performances in big games.

He has 5 assists in PL, 3 of them are against Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea. Other 2 are against Sunderland and West Ham both away.

And when Kante was dicking around in the French third division Herrera was dominating the best teams in Spain, whats your point? Hes been grossly misused up until this season, that doesn't detract from his ability.

This is a good point to raise. I've personally been saying it throughout the season that I don't want him replaced at all, but I would like us to get someone that's technically better than Fellaini's to be his competition.

The likes of Fabinho, Naby Keita etc.

Love this clip. You could see late in the 2nd half that Hazard came very deep in their own half to get the ball, probably sick of the sight of Herrera in his face. Mourinho's tactics worked perfectly as he's no danger when he's that far from the opponent's box.

Last night when Herrera came home, he emptied his pockets:

- wallet
- phone
- keys
- Eden Hazard

Past 2 seasons. Not this one. Hes certainly improved this year but hes been one of the better players in the team who are 5th, not the stand out player in an amazing team.

Bit silly, you could see how good he was under LVG, not his fault that manager didn't trust and use him. Our best spells under LVG involved him being one of the better players yet he would always be dropped for silly reasons.

He is showing this season what happens when he is trusted, he also showed top quality as Bilbao.

Exactly. You need at least top class midfielders if you're playing 3 in every game. Upgrade, and when I say upgrade I mean seriously upgrade, on Carrick and Fellaini. Then with Herrera and Pogba kicking on with better players around him (hopefully), we'd be in great shape.

What do you mean when you say Louis used him in a similar role during United's six game winning run? I'm not disagreeing, just genuinely interested. To me, during that run he played in quite an orthodox right side of a midfield 3.

Vs Chelsea was a role I don't think I have seen before for a player like Herrera. He played as a pseudo tucked in right back behind Valencia with Darmian playing a similar role on the other side. It was almost a 2-2-4-2 with Herrera on the right of the second 2.

Thinking about it, I remember Fergie did something similar vs Liverpool when his full backs followed McManaman and Berger when they played behind a single striker.

Agreed but United were better off losing that game. The squad is really struggling with the current fixture list. Any more games would have been too much.

One of, if not the most, accomplished performances from a player in a United shirt for ages. Love the guy and love his passion. When he's interviewed he's one of those players who wears his heart on his sleeve and expresses himself emotionally rather than the more often seen 'media training' stance of reply.
