Amorim's Rebuild

Please read what was typed critically and not emotionally. I said Amorim's attacking Intent is the issue, he has wide players running up and down and the 10's going inside but there's no penetration, no overloads, no movement where the opposition are opened up. Amorim said as much in quotes when he stated not needing to coach attacking players in certain phases of play and it shows in this team.

I would absolutely take Garnacho running around like a headless chicken like he did under ETH compared to a manager who's pragmatism doesn't actually achieve anything. At best it produces threat so there's an element of danger for the opposition team. Additionally, Dalot / Maz playing wide to accommodate his system but the team is still poor defensively. Against Fulham where the circumstances are chasing the game for a goal and the manager is bringing a defender on because he doesn't have any managerial ability outside of his preferential system.

You don't need time to comprehend competence. There is no chance United will be successful under Amorim. You can bookmark this post in 24 months time when a new manager is in. There's no pride in this either I hope to be proven wrong and that it becomes a success but can't see it with Ruben. He's way above his level.

Agree with this almost word for word
Bookmarked, I disagree, I think given time and some players, Ruben will be successful. And he has done so at shoe string with Sporting, so he doesn't need to spend millions to get the correct profiles in.

I also believe he has exposed our players real level, they can only play counter attack football, when they are tasked to go front door or think they are clueless, lack intelligence and technically exposed bar a few. There is a bit of Ten Haag revisionism going on here, Garnacho wasn't pulling up trees under ETH, he just suited counter attacking and was as frustrating as Rashford. Garnacho has had over 100 games and not developed much, with majority being under ETH.

You can't compare Sporting buying players for peanuts or whatever and then say we can do the same thing, to win the Portuguese league is probably easier than winning the championship here, so whatever players they signed are likely not going to get it done in the PL

They were flying in the CL and demolished City. They were up there with Liverpool in the table.

They beat Lille and Sturm Graz, the City game they had 25% possession Ole beat City many times playing that way, they then didn't win another game so they probably outperformed in one game on their campaign in the CL, so my point stands beating Rio Ave and the like regularly is not like the PL

Disagree with this , I'd love to see the stats on this but just from the eye test we are getting a lot more cut backs and overloads on the wings than we did previously. Not having a decent striker and a midfielder who can either dictate play or provide dribble penetration weakens us in the central attacking areas. I agree that his system is more defensive than attacking in the sense that he prioritizes being defensively solid first over outscoring the opposition but I think that is prudent given our options. If we ever have a wealth of attacking talent and he still sets up very defensively then your point would have more merit.

The reality is Ruben never really had any real tangible success in Europe!

19/20 Season- only started on 4th March after sporting lost a second leg in EL 4-1 after leading 3-1 in home leg to Istanbul Basaksehir - No European football to judge him on with Sporting!
He was however coach of Braga that again qualified out of the group under Amorim against wolves, Besiktas, Slovan Brataslava and then lost to Rangers twice in the round of 32 knockout stages, he won their domestic cup with Braga that year.
20/21 Season - Club had to try and qualify for EL, won 3rd qualifying round vs Aberdeen 1-0 then lost final qualifying round to
Lask 1-4 and one of his players got sent off which seems a pattern in big games, we’ve seen this with Dalot and Bruno already, they are too wound up.
21/22 Season - Round of 16 CL thrashed by City and ETH’s Ajax
22/23 Season - Knocked out of Group 3rd, dropped to EL, Beat Spurs in CL and knocked out Arsenal in EL on penalties, knocked out by Juventus in 1/4 Final of EL
23/24 Season - Beaten twice by Atlanta in competition and knocked out in Round of 16 again by Atlanta.

As you can see he has no real pedigree in European Football, if and I still maintain it’s a huge if he gets past Sociedad, especially with how he’s briefing the club and the media this will only be his second European quarter final!

Also important to note in the weaker Portuguese game his first 24 games after taking over his record was vastly superior to it his here with 14 wins 5 draws and 5 defeats. He’s been vastly overrated and he’s vastly underestimated the English Premier League!

Let’s not kid ourselves, Berada did not do the required due diligence on Ruben and he has a lot to prove even with a rebuild?

Amorim , believed wrongly that he could not take sporting any further in Europe due to real financial funding.

Mourinho and others like ; Emery, Gasperini, Valverde, Xavi, Allegri, Xabi Alonso have all done much more in Europe.

We should have left Ruben to prove that he could take a well oiled Sporting deep into the CL this season to justify employing a coach that needed a radical change to playing staff in the summer, this is why I don’t blame the coach but the board, they could and should have waited by showing a clear path to improvement for the club on the field.

In Summary, Sporting generally qualify out of the group under Amorim but then fail miserably in 2 Leg Knock out games. He keeps talking down Cup competitions yet he won three domestic cups in 5 years in Portugal.

I agree, it just comes down to quality.

Genuinely interested simply how many new players will be at United come September 1st.

Irrelevant whether Amorim will be here, because there is a possibility things go even worse before now and May and he does get sacked.
