He is going to have a Bernardo Silva type trajectory- playing both winger and attacking midfielder at a high level.I see amad as Bruno's eventual replacement

I've watched every game of his for us - both at youth and senior level - and nearly every game of his at Sunderland.
You're going to be very disappointed. Dribbling is a weakness of his.

Haha. You're not serious.
Ah, the ol' YouTube trick. Reminds me of last summer where everyone said I was wrong for saying the same thing about Antony because YouTube videos.
@iHicksy & @Mingus , that video, which I've already watched, even highlights his limited dribbling. He rarely actually gets fully past his man, and, when he does, the opposition player catches back up to him due to Amad being quite slow.
I like Amad. He has a lot of strengths as a footballer. Dribbling past opposition players isn't one of them.
Dribbling is just about beating players for me. He isn't good at that.Dribbling and dribbling past the opposition are two different things. You never said dribbling past opposition players is a weakness of his, you just said dribbling.

Dribbling has always meant going past players to me, and always will. Carrying the ball in general without actually ever beating an opposition player is just carrying the ball. He's good at that but still relies on having other technical players around him to give and go. It was very evident last season when he played without Patrick Roberts which, as a result, caused him to be more isolated in possession, that he struggled, and vice versa. Roberts this season is a shadow of his last seasons form without Amad linking with him. Players like them thrive off linking up with similar players rather than through their own individual play. Also, i've followed him since before we signed him - I've never watched a youtube video of him until today.
You should perhaps understand the term dribbling then - it doesn't mean going past players - it means carrying the ball and not letting opponents get it off you. Which he does exceptionally well. Dribbling past players - is very different.

You could already see it yesterday. He wanted some interplays to give and go, but our lack of movement as a team and eagerness to go more direct prevented that from happening. Due to this, he was always one on one with an opposition player, and always had to pass back or sideways because he's not the type to beat his man.
That's a very narrow definition for the modern day game. If Amad (or anyone for that matter) attempted to take the defender on every time then he wouldn't be picked.Dribbling has always meant going past players to me, and always will. I think the fact Erik in his post match presser came out and praised Amad shows we’ll be seeing a hell of a lot more of him on the right over the next few months
We have Mainoo the new Jude Bellingham, Garnacho the new Ronaldo and Amad the new Bernardo Silva.
Great news, I'm sure nobody will make threads to replace either of them a year from now.
Literally no one has mentioned anything about the first two being fecking ronaldo or Jude. As far as the Amad/Silva comparison, it's more a stylistic one not an overall quality one. Stop making lazy strawman arguments.
This
He'll be a better player than Rashford.
Feels like a young Rooney vs young Ronaldo.
Unbelievable debut. Jude Bellingham springs to mind.
He makes Jude Bellingham look like Jordan Henderson.
He should be watching Jude Bellingham. Thats where his ceiling should be.
Right... and if you read the post about Amad, the OP compared his trajectory to Bernardo, not style.
It's one of the most irritating thing our fan base does, it really sets our players up for failure. Already seeing posts about Kambwala having a long term defensive partnership with Varane when he may end up being the next Paddy McNair or Blackett. I suppose we've given up on "try Pellestri" because we've realised he's pretty mediocre after hyping him up for nothing, our fan base just doesn't learn.
Anthony is fine at carrying the ball. It’s players that can beat a man that we are short of. I am not rushing to judgment on this lad yet but I am not sure he is going to make the kind of impact that we’ll need if we’re going to step up a level. Also, i've followed him since before we signed him - I've never watched a youtube video of him until today.

Such an odd thing to be critical of. He was trying to win the ball cleanly as he knew if he touched the Forest player in the back or clipped him slightly he'd throw himself to the ground and get a free kick, giving them an opportunity to run the clock down. He waited till he got a clear view of the ball before winning it clean.Gibbs White couldn't run, but kept the ball for 50 meters with Diallo jogging behind him. He won it back in the end, when he got a little help, but he should have done it far earlier. Wasn't a big deal, just an example of how he still lacks a little intensity at times.
Yes people act like Antony has never been dropped. He's been on the bench loads, it's just we've literally only had 2 other wide players in squad in Rashford/Garnacho, who are both right footed and prefer the left, and both have a lot more bad games than they do good games (Garnacho can be forgiven due to age/inexperience). Rashford has also had injury/illness/suspension this season. So inevitably after a couple of games on the bench Antony has found himself back in.Was pleasently surprised by his cameo. I don’t think ETH is as married to Antony as some think, hopefully now we’ll see less of him.
His major problem is going to be he's not very individualistic player and not very physically imposing, so he's a player that relies on link up play. You can't link up play in this team as almost every one of his team mates is technically inept in tight spaces and make consistently dumb decisions. If we're just going to feed him the ball on the touch line and ask him to do it all himself, he's not going to unlock his potential.
Still, he should be starting every game over Antony. Way more talent and potential. If he doesn't show us anything by the end of the season, at least then we'll know he's not good enough. No point persisting with Antony who we've already established isn't good enough over a prolonged period.
Probably has not been picked because he has not been playing anywayWill he be going to the AFCON? Or have the club stopped him going since he’s just come back from injury?
Zaha hasn't been picked, that makes it even stranger to not pick Amad.Probably has not been picked because he has not been playing anyway
Ivory Coast are no slouches and I think they have Zaha on one wing but not too sure who is on the other side.
Strange indeed...I just read that Zaha has not played for them for a while so something must have happened there.Zaha hasn't been picked, that makes it even stranger to not pick Amad.
Not really. Winger dribblers are not something they lack and I bet they took into account Amad hasn't been fit in a while. They made the right call for him and us IMOZaha hasn't been picked, that makes it even stranger to not pick Amad.
Outside of Zaha they have Gradel, Pepe, Adingra, Boga, Bamba and Amad to choose from. They are one African nation stacked with wide men who are dribblers.Probably has not been picked because he has not been playing anyway

So is he good at dribbling?
Just Yagami being Yagami.Yeah, he's really good at dribbling, but he can't beat his man, but beating his man is not what dribbling means, but actually it does, but he's better than Antony so who cares.

He looks tidy and can strike the ball very cleanly. He is smart, has a cool head and it may be that he can create some decent chances. That would be worth a lot but in the modern game every player has to contribute in multiple functions. Does he have the physicality for that? Maybe but we’re yet to see it. Let’s see how he goes.
