Oh, I'm not putting Amad down but this suggestion that Amad would be just as involved in the City squad is abit deluded. Foden was/is a seriously well rounded player, more so than Amad at a similar age. It's not a put down, its just how it is.
Amad will develop at his own pace.

I feel you are just making statements that are easy to make now, after the fact. They actually look like very similar talents. Foden is older, and has had the benefit of coming through in a great environment that he is used to, that play the exact football that suits him. He’s grown fantastically in the last 2 years there, but the Foden I remember at 18/19 didn’t look to have more ability IMO.

Ffs. Hopefully it’s just precautionary

Looked like cramp to me. No ice pack or treatment when he went to the bench either.

Great debut and learning curve this. Some brutal tackles and he will certainly toughen up in Scotland. I think it’ll end up a great loan move if he stays fit.

I think Amad is certainly good enough to be drip fed games like Foden was two or three years ago. With the type of football that City play, it would be a perfect environment for him.

He won't make it here, he's too positive. He dribbled past players, kept the ball well and made good runs. Exactly the opposite of what we do.

He was the only one creating lately. Rangers will struggle here unless the Fashion guy is any good.
The period when they were sustaining pressure 2nd half was all through Amad and feeding him the ball early. They totally ignored the right side first half. That CB Goldson or whatever he’s called continually makes the wrong decisions in possession taking an eternity compressing space rather than feeding wide areas. When they isolated Amad they looked like they could create chances at will. Once they adjust to him I think he’ll feast at that level.

First sign of any muscle twinges it’s wise to bring him off, especially with the old firm in a few days. Good debut from him mind.

Another good thing about a loan. He needs to play senior games, and play them consistently, his body needs to get used to that.

This has been an enjoyable game. The quality is obviously lower than what we are all used to but the game is enjoyable. End to end, crazy tackles and constant pressing. The pressing element will enhance Diallo’s development.

Should be 3-3 what a miss.

I agree, once his fitness levels are up to scratch too, I wouldn't be surprised to see him on 15-20 goal contributions. His technical aspect of the game is just far superior than those around him in attacking positions, it was clearly evident today.

I just put this on for a laugh and whatever stream I’m watching the commentary is the most uninspiring commentary I’ve ever heard.

Think it’s an issue of the state and style of our team. I don’t agree with this notion that Amad is a million miles away from playing PL football, but I do agree that he isn’t quite ready to shine playing for US. We are not the best footballing side.

People saying Elanga is so much more ready, I think that is because we play this basic football of hard running. Amad is not smaller than say Foden at 19 who was getting games for City, and I am certain he would be involved if he were a City player now. As would VDB, rather than this message of ‘he lacks physicality to play in the PL’ that we seem to be putting out.

We are simply not a great footballing side, so the more technical players will need to have good physical attributes to add value here. Sancho has shown a similar ‘lack of physicality to play in the PL’, for example. I also suspect that he’d do better at City, so far. He’ll improve at United, but only when he either gets stronger or we become more fluid with the ball.
Brilliant post, could not agree more.

That's just ridiculous. He's still young. If he learns how to whine and talk crap to the press, he may still stand a chance.

Isn’t Ryan Kent supposed to be good or was that just Fifa?

He looked quick but very average to me. Thought he and Kamara looked not quite at the level you'd want if you were Rangers tbh, but good enough to contribute something from time to time nonetheless. McGregor and Itten were exceedingly shite though, impressively so. Tavernier also didn't have a good game. Aribo was class though and Amad did well.

Thing I enjoyed most about this game was the refereeing - been a long time since we've seen a ref like that in the Prem who knows how to let the game flow and is consistent for both teams. Ok the pressure might be higher possibly but it's no excuse for the shite refereeing we see week after week.

Hopefully it's not much of an injury. He just needs game time. The talent is there.

Sending him to the Scottish League is so pointless ffs it's really not going to tell us anything about him we don't already know.
I would argue it’s actually quite beneficial for him. It’s not the same quality of the premier league, but it has similar physicality which will only add to his learning.

Also, with rangers being one of the big 2 in Scotland, every team Rangers come up against will be likely playing a low block, sitting deep in numbers and hard to break down. It’s the same kind of challenges he would face at Utd especially at old trafford. No matter how poor or good the opponents are, playing against men behind the ball teams is a similar challenge regardless of who you play.

So even though the quality isn’t the best overall, it’s still a great move for him which will help him in his development for the premier league.

Great performance from Diallo today in difficult conditions. Delighted with him. Really hope he is going to be fit for the old firm on Wednesday! That will be a very different game on a proper big pitch, so if he’s fit he’ll have plenty opportunities to show what he can do.

Roofe should come back into the starting 11 on Wednesday which would give Diallo a far better player to link up with. Roofe is just back from injury hence why he couldn’t start today and why we were stuck with 3rd choice striker Itten who just isn’t good enough.

I’m sure plenty on here will be watching on Wednesday but I’ll post updates on Diallo’s progress with us anyway.

Its not the same quality as the championship either. Thats the problem

Nice one 5titles, will look forward to you reminding us when Rangers are playing, and if they're on telly or not!

Just watched the highlights and really good debut. I think the quality is there for all to see. Playing first team football will help get him ready for the physicality of the premier league and I think this is why Elanga has been favoured over him at this stage.

Love to see what he can do at Rangers for the rest of the season

Starting week in week out will improve him granted it isn’t the best of leagues.

Lad just needs first team football to help push him on. Has vast potential. Utd scouting department had him 2nd only to ansi fati for the best winger in europe for their age group.

Just need to be patient with him. Rangers good place for him to develop.

Only saw the highlights but surely he stole the show?

He was certainly one of the better players on the pitch yeah. The wingers were basically both the highlight.

Lots of impressive movement and touches which you won't see on highlights too.

There weren't any obvious signs of him being too weak for mens football that's for sure.

Very similar kind of game he’s had in the U23s. If you give him space or he wrong foots you he’ll cause big trouble. It’s hard to know whether to go to him or stand off. Nice and direct as always, not overly predictable (although he goes for the nutmeg quite often) Can go inside or outside. Carries himself well and is as happy to look for the killer ball as the shot. Very technical lad. Once he gets stronger and more confident he’ll be a formidable player.

Outside of us and Celtic it's about league 1 quality, it’s not pretty.

I’d argue playing with us is more beneficial than many lower Championship sides though where you don’t have anything like the tense, sold out 50k stadium we have and you don’t that much to play for other than your own reputation at times. The stakes are so high at Rangers, especially with automatic champions league group stage qualification on the line this season for the first time in a very long time.
