 It's so irritating though. Every thread you walk into and it's moan moan moan.

it was actually a real question, so thanks for the answer. I haven’t actually thought that maybe he wouldn’t want to be second to Onana. And to be hones, I am very irritated about us buying Altay because I have watched a lot of games with him and know how happy Fenerbahce fans are right now with us paying a record high number for their goalkeeper who is currently their 3rd option

For the money, why didn't we go for someone like Dominik Livaković, who's just gone to Turkey for similar price? Doesn't sound like this guy is any better as a 'progressive' sweeper-goalkeeper, and seems to make more mistakes, at least from the little I've read about each (& seen of Livaković )

Playing time is a deciding factor i'd imagine. Bayindir is probably happy to be number 2.

Bayindir was seen as having high potential a couple of years ago so it is always possible that we believe that all he needs is a change of scenery and we can coach him up. With so many cheap options for a backup keeper out there we must have some belief that he can develop here.

Sağol abi! Having an emotional goalkeeper with weak mentality is not really making me confident what so ever. Can't believe that we are trying to sign this guy. I wanted the first Turkish player in United to at least be half decent.

I’m surprised too; if Man Utd was going to buy a GK from Turkey, they could have chosen to sign Uğurcan Çakır or Mert Günok, who currently are top two picks for the national team.

Well, ok, it will be fun to see Altay there, hope he gets some play time, maybe in FA cup or less challenging matches.

Onana and Altay, wow, that is some setup.

Twitter rumours are saying he was at Carrington earlier today but don't know how true

Looks like its going ahead as Henderson medical is booked for Monday with Crystal Palace.

Not sure we are getting a good deal here, as this turkish lad isnt that great and drops alot of howlers.

It's unlikely they'd be happy to sit on the bench and only really play if Onana is injured, especially if have genuine ambitions towards the international team.

We obviously wanted a young version of Onana which is why we went for Suzuki. There aren't many young GK prospects like that though, and getting them to agree a bench role is obviously difficult as well.

Hey Guys a Fener fan here

I always read this forum. I am a United fan too. I want to write about Altay Bayindir I will be honest

Strength: He is very talented Gk. Tall, good reflexes, nice long shot stopper. He is good at One on one situations. Also he is very nice guy as a person. Unselfish and good caracter.

Weakneses: He is not mentally strong and could be broken after consecutive mistakes. One mistake could cause another. He sometimes can have issues against crosses. Last year He had a bad season. He is booed by fans. He is not coming with a good form

Fener’s last title win was 2014 and fans are very impatient. The fan pressure is huge ( more than any team in England). That is why Fener want a new gk

He is considered as a back up for United. This can be good for Altay too. He need some time to refresh his head. New club new country new challange better stuff. He definately has talent. Nice start 2-3 good games could carry him another level. He has chance to be first option at long period. He need a new start. He is worth to try if the fee is around 6-7 m euros
Bumping this post from a fener fan

Hi everyone,

Just registered today to give some info about Altay. I’m 40, Turkish, watching Turkish league for like 25+ years, supporting Fenerbahçe.

He came to Fenerbahçe 4 years ago and became the primary GK after our long time GK Volkan Demirel retired. The team wasn’t doing ok at that time but he was seen as a good prospect for the future so the supporters gave him credit for errors which he rarely made at that time. I’d give 6.5 points over 10 for him for that season.

His second season was a lot better and we were debating if he or Uğurcan (GK of Trabzonspor) should be starting for the National team. Fenerbahçe was bad again that year but Altay was ok. (7.5/10)

Third season, Fenerbahçe started well but they struggled and fell behind in league race; Altay was making mistakes but almost everyone were saying “he’ll be ok, he’s young, he’s talented” etc. (6/10)

Fourth season, we had high hopes with new manager, Jorge Jesus. Our striker (Enner Valencia) was scoring well, team had a good spirit, morales were high but Altay made some incredible mistakes, making us lose valuable points. And in big matches, he failed big time. Also he had an injury+got operated, missing like 3 months. (4.5/10)

This season, we have even higher hopes with new players (thanks for selling Fred to us) and the supporters’ credit for Altay was even lower. He played 2 matches, he made mistakes and almost everyone started to say last year’s replacement GK was better than him and he deserved to play instead of Altay.

That was his story with us.

what I can tell about his properties are,

+ he has long arms
+ he’s athletic and he can jump, must have a good vertical reach.
+ he can make impossible saves sometimes
+ good on one-on-one situations

- he’s emotional and doesn’t have mental strength, can demoralize during matches.
- he has bad feet, don’t expect good passes
- he goes up front even if his defender is with the opponent player, this confuses the defender and creates chaos for the team.

You can watch our game highlights from here,

I’ll be around you have any spesific questions about here/him.

thanks for reading
Bumping this as well another fener fan.

Its worrying reading.

Thanks Dinostar, I thought I can extend what I wrote in my first post.

Altay’s worst season with us was last season and that’s worrying to hear, I admit. But there are some things to keep in mind, too.

I mentioned Jorge Jesus, he was our manager last season. He was an old school portugese coach who had a wonderful A plan but when it was not working, he didn’t have a B plan.

His A plan was to decrease team size; press the ball in opponents’ half and position the centre backs close to midfielders. He was using an offside trap and you can guess; when opponents timed a good pass, they were having a lot of one-on-ones. Even in his worst season, Altay probably saved more than half of these positions. He likes to rush forward.

He struggled when our defenders were close to him. You know, they go for the same ball, collide in air, none of them gets the ball and opponents score; things like that happened more often.

He also made easy mistakes, like holding the ball inside the goal line, punching the head of the defender instead of the ball, punching the ball inside, etc.

People mostly thought it was because of his lack of motivation.

If we think positively, he will be in a world class club and that will surely increase his motivation.

I watched Man Utd vs NOF highlights today and I can say Altay in his prime would save first goal 70% and second goal 50%. He could save the other shot on goal, too.

I don’t know how Man Utd plays and if you have fast/good defenders or not, this will impact his performance there.

If your team can lift his morale, you’ll have a good GK, he can even compete with Onana for lineup. If he keeps doing what he did in last 2 years, just forget him.
