All-Time Fantasy Draft

They've been celebrating since I made my 7th pick, can't understand what's taking them so long in this case.

That was for Blokhin

They were weighing up a few options I believe.

I think they may have gone for the wrong one but time will tell!

Can't go wrong with one of the best ever Germans and a 2 time Ballon D'or winner!!

Completely fluid, our forwards will interchange throughout the match with the two strikers being total footballers, Pele can drop deep and Rummenigge is comfortable right across the front line, peeling off to the wings and running the channels.

Boniek and Blokhin are both adept centrally, the latter having played as a striker at times. When one moves inside another takes his place, wrecking havoc on the hapless opposition defence who don't have a clue who to mark.

The most dangerous team on the counter?

Probably.

An outrageous front four, there isn't a set of forwards in the game with the same dribbling ability.

You're talking about within the constraints of this draft and your opposing sides, right?

Well, while I was leaving Blokhin as a potential sub KH was one I would have picked if I didn't want Effenberg bossing the midfield with Rijkaard.

well neeskens and tardelli are better anyway :p

Platini, Rivaldo, Moreno and Nordahl ain't too shabby.

I know you are a huge Moreno fan and know more about him than me, but like I said last night to Gio I thought he was an inside forward, so not a natural wide player. In which case I don't see as much width in that team compared to ours. Niether Rivaldo or Moreno are going to run the wings like Blokhin or Boniek can.

Cutch picks Nilton Santos, undisputed legend of the game and multiple World Cup winner.

I'll continue the South Americans in B&W trend with Ecuador's greatest ever player, all-time Copa Libertadores top scorer and one of the most prolific headers in history, Alberto Spencer.

Yeah, Total Football mk II

I would be very careful telling people you are playing total football with a bunch of players that never played together and who come from different "schools".

Total football requires a lot of cohesiveness, otherwise it's just a mess.

Both exactly the picks I expected. I was confident Brwned would nick Spencer from my interchangeable options bag!

Yeah I was only joking.

The front four will be fluid like I said, because they are all adept at playing a variety of positions. Indeed they all did actually do so.

But the rest of the team is rigid. We knew we were going this route, hence prioritising Thuram and a defensively sound midfield pair in Neeskens and especially Tardelli.

Meh I can handle that front four.

You certainly have the best centre backs by a distance, but IMO we are one of the better teams to challenge that, by being able to attack the flanks.

No doubt it will be incredibly tough for us anyway, but I think other teams who are more centrally orientated will struggle even more against Figueroa and Baresi.

Take it easy, NM. You might make Fergus' son throw up by all the campaigning.

Ok, give it a rest now.

I knew it! Brehmes crosses straight onto that head!

I suspect you may have preffered Kocsis (:p) but still a great choice for your team.

No doubt it will be incredibly tough for us anyway, but I think other teams who are more centrally orientated will struggle even more against Figueroa and Baresi.

I've already got a brilliant full back in Amoros who is the type to never let his man go. Helping him out is Gullit who was probably the most important player in one of the best club sides ever due to his all round game and extremely aggresive pressing. I've got the right flank shut down.

Misundestood you, thought you were talking about fluidity.

With dribbling I would be surprised if they could compete. Don't think Nordhal is known for his dribbling the way that Rummenigge for example is.

Even Platini wasn't focused on the dribbling but his playmaking and passing, would be outdribbled by Boniek IMO.

To be fair, antohan has been attacking my picks a couple of times - I'm not going to sit down and be quiet about it.

I don't think I've been anything but constructive. In fact, I exchanged PMs with Theon prior to that pick and I agreed it was an excellent one. He is going a bit overboard though so just getting him back down to earth.

In the only case I may have been overly-critical is with Carvalho, but I was indeed pointing out a potential problem which requires the rest of your team (midfielders and fullbacks) to help out with.

I'd rather point it out now than suddenly surprise you with it in a game. If you go around bragging about your fullbacks storming up the wings, Passarella joining attacks and Tardelli/Neeskens being box to box total footballers or whatever nonsense, I will certainly point my finger at poor Ricardo Carvalho stranded in no man's land. He would get sent off in the first half.

Sure would, but we go back to the totalfootball stuff and something I pointed out earlier regarding Best and Garrincha supposedly being an awesome wing pair. A bunch of players dribbling all over the pitch don't necessarily win a game.

Ayee, no doubt about that. But Boniek wasn't a selfish player and niether was Rummenigge in the slightest, both creators.

relax mate. I'm not too serious.. Better that there is discussion than no talking at all!

Nope, I am still flying high.
