All-Time Fantasy Draft

Comeon Aldo, Zidane wasn't easy for Dortmund to stop. Yes he's probably over-rated but let's not under-rate him either.

I didn't think I was gonna change that opinion, however unreasonable it sounds to me. He is one of those players who has that romantic support no matter what you say, and incredibly you will find it hard to find a handful of people who will agree to Zidane being France's game changer in 98 in his home country!

Comeon Aldo, Zidane wasn't easy for Dortmund to stop. Yes he's probably over-rated but let's not under-rate him either.

He was stopped in that game rather effortlessly. The reason I am saying that confidently is because I have seen that full game more than once and it was obvious.

 When Aldo told me he considered Iniesta better than Zidane I thought there was a case for discussion and, Spanish in the third round vs. French in the first edged it in terms of value. I never thought he would go into a never-ending debate about it

Both have merits and I share the sentiment that Zidane is overrated (largely because France were quite useless without him) while Iniesta is underrated (since he has always had great partners and it never needed to be all about him).

I would have him neck and neck, and a step below the absolute peaks of Ronaldinho and Rivaldo. It is quite relevant though that when needed to perform at the highest level in big games he never fails to deliver.

It doesn't hurt that he is playing with his all-time favourite either:

Iniesta in 2010 said:
Who is the best player in history? Laudrup.

You first...

I think it's a poor combination for a myriad of reasons.

Well obviously it depends on the others players he picks around them and how he sets his system up but if he puts a third man in there to sit in behind, do the leg work and give them a platform he's got two of the best technically gifted players out there. Passing range, goals and movement.

It's an exciting looking midfield early on.

Happy enough with how my team is coming along, I wanted Redondo though :(

Isotope picks Alan Hansen. Not a bad centre back duo at all.

My midfield is done.

Amongst the best holding midfielders ever, great leader, great passing range, great technique, tough tackler and was liable to score a scorcher every now and then: Graeme Souness

The way I see it you're restricting Zidane by playing him in proper midfield role even if it is in a midfield three but that's the only real option now. Otherwise you're playing Scholes very, very deep and while undoubtedly capable of playing there it leaves you somewhat exposed defensively (regardless of partner) and essentially nullifies Scholesy's goalscoring.

Ah, feck me for ever writing that post

 Exactly, that's the one I was talking about. Still two more on there, wonder how long they will last!

Being Uruguyan, any thoughts on Santamaria compared to the two discussed last night?

Brazilians get a really tough deal in this format. There's some absolute brilliant ones still left, quite a lot better than some of the players who've been picked.

Thanks Brwned, for doing my picks.

Yeah. I had Santamaria in mind, long before that discussion. Since he was exposed/discussed, was 99% sure that Antohan or Gio would go for him, though.

The best left back in history?

The man who showed catenaccio wasn't just defensive. His redefining of the fullback role inspiring Beckenbauer to reinvent his game and make runs from deep.
