You make it sounds like they didn't win shit in the 80's and 90's...

I do hate Real Madrid, but they've won a lot, that can't be denied.

They didn't have Barca's glamour. As strange as it sounds now, but we used to regard them as Spain's second club. In the early 80's Juve and Barca were probably the two most glamorous clubs in Europe. See, it's not all about winning either. Both didn't have a European Cup at the time. I think Barca were the world's richest club back then, had some quality players. . .including the best the world's ever seen. Juve were full of Italian internationals and had the likes of Platini and Boniek too (Robbo turned them down, by the way). Even when you look at the Barca sides of the 90's, they've had some fantastic sides full of quality players. Real turned things around after their first European Cup win since the 60's. No one gave them a chance against a more powerful Juve side, which was the best in Europe, by a considerable margin. But their galactico policy worked in the sense it gave the club global appeal. (that said Barca are still the most popular European club in South America)

Fair enough, Mozza does know his stuff except when he shows a certain bias for English players (except Hargreaves). IK just seems to be extreme opposite when it comes to the same subject.

We haven't heard from BahamaRed all day - should we be worried?

I hope the cnut stays.

This team is one the verge of dominating Europe for years.

you sure about that spoony? I've heard numerous time on the radio by the likes of tim vickery and gabriel marcotti that madrid were and still are the most popular club in the latin americas. Marcotti said that barca are the most popular in mexico.

Carlos the key.

MANCHESTER UNITED must persuade Carlos Queiroz to stay at Old Trafford to keep Cristiano Ronaldo.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s right-hand man is on the point of quitting United to coach the Portuguese national team.

And that, according to sources in Lisbon, could be the catalyst that sends Portugal star Ronaldo to Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, 23, has refused to commit himself to United, repeatedly saying his future will be decided after Euro 2008. It is also an open secret that he wants to play for Real, one day, and that the Spanish champions will make him the highest-paid star on earth.

But if Ronaldo is wavering over his loyalty to United, the departure of fellow countryman Queiroz could tip the balance against Old Trafford.

Queiroz, Fergie’s trusted No.2, is disillusioned because he hasn’t been assured he will succeed Ferguson as United manager.

Fergie has publicly praised Queiroz, giving him much credit for his tactical and organisational input into United’s successes in the past two years.

But Queiroz is disappointed, to say the least, that the United hierarchy have not told him he will succeed Ferguson, 66, who is expected to retire before he turns 70. Starsport revealed in April that Portugal had offered Queiroz their top job, in the event of Big Phil Scolari leaving after Euro 2008.

Chelsea-bound Scolari is now on his way – and Queiroz, who is a massive influence on Ronaldo at United, likes the idea of coaching his national team.

A sticking point, and potential plus for United, is that Portugal have not offered Queiroz as good a contract as Scolari.

One move that would make Queiroz turn his back on his country is an assurance from chief executive David Gill that he will become United’s next manager.

Bit of a stretch to suggest that Carlos is at the point of quitting i'd say.

So I wonder where the media is getting all the stories if Ronaldo hasn't spoken. Its all bullshit to turn United supporters against one of their best players....and its sad to say some of us fall for anything

Right to the point. There are many people wanting his head already, calling him cnut, traitor, prick, disgrace and all the bad words you could imagine. There have been swaping deals, let him rot in the reserves campaings and all that stuff. The media is getting to the caf and the silence hasnt help too much neither.

Just dont dare to temp the caftards rage.

I still love him.

So will all the haters after he has been part of the team that nails the barcodes

No-one hates him. Well, at least I don't think they do.

It's just that we as fans feel incredibly disappointed and let down by him. Football is a emotive sport, and people have every right to feel angry, and lets be honest, he has come across as a bit of a twat in this whole saga. But, that doesn't mean people 'hate' him. As a footballer, I would say everyone loves him, I know I do, but as person, I don't really have much 'love', doesn't mean I hate him though, I think quite a lot of others probably feel the same.

I can understand what Sam is saying, but for me I'm not really that disappointed. I've always known this day would come, and to be honest I've never really expected any better from him. That's not a shot at him by the way, just the fact he was raised in a different culture, and it seems he wants to return there at some point, and if the reports are to be believed it will be sooner rather than later.

I've always seen Ronaldo as a player who was almost on loan to us, I couldn't see him spending his whole career with us. If he goes, best of luck to him. Wrong decision IMHO, but there you go. The below post is one I wrote two weeks ago in this thread, the same is still true, although we are just talking about different articles, the theme remains the same. Tells you who is driving this whole saga, doesn't it?

Feel free to read any of my posts on Ronaldo. I'm not in denial. I'm not sad or hurt. I don't live or die on the choices of some bloke I've never met. I don't have all that much affection for him, but I recognise he is a brilliant footballer. I also think until one or more of the parties involved says something publicly, we know absolutely nothing. I'm not having a go at him. Simple as that. If he leaves, so what? Plenty before him have come and gone, and we are still Manchester United Football Club. He'll get my best wishes. If he doesn't want to be with us, he's no use to us anyway.

I'm not accusing the media of stirring, I'm saying this has all the hallmarks or irresponsible journalism, and I think it is wrong. My point is, that this article is one from Brazil, yesterday, which no one reported until today, when it was mentioned on the Caf, and it became Gospel throughout a number of sites. Look at how each of those outlets are reporting it, "according to Terra" etc. They know nothing more than us. I think they know this may be a ruse, but aren't willing to be left behind.

Of course Ronaldo could have quelled all of these rumours, but for reasons only known to him, he hasn't, has he? And it has nothing to do with the point I was making either, does it?

Tbh, I'm just disappointed with the way he's handled it. We all knew he would leave one day, that was a given. But had he come out been very upfront with what he wanted to do, been honest, and said that he felt it was time for him to move, then I would have accepted that, and he would have left with dignity. As it is, he's given all these mixed signals, one minute he's staying, the next he doesn't know. And after the immense season we've just had, it just leaves a slight bitter taste in the mouth.

I'm not as worked up as a lot of others. If he goes he goes, fine, we will move on, just like we always do. However I would have liked the whole thing to have been more dignified. Because now, if he does stay, after what's happened, the feelings towards him may possibly be quite different.

We have to chill and realise that this is 80-90% media bollocks - feckwits like that cancerous cnut Martin Lipton from the Mirror having no clue about the real story but going ahead anyway and printing one saying that Ronaldo is furious at the actions of United and will ask to leave, with no solid basis of truth whatsoever.

Then there is another 10% of viability with the 'supposed' quotes by family members and very very inconclusive remarks by Ronaldo himself. Basically the lad wants to do well at Euro 2008 to cap a remarkable season and be BPITW. We all know it. He doesn't want to get distracted by all the rumours.

There is no point speculating at the moment. How about enjoying our amazing feats domestically and in Europe which are little more than a month old?

MADRID, June 19: Real Madrid say they are waiting for Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo to make the first move that would allow them to start negotiations with Manchester United over a possible transfer.

The Spanish champions have made little secret of their admiration for the player but have been warned off encouraging him to breach his contract by world soccer's governing body FIFA, following a complaint from United.

"We are waiting for Ronaldo to say something, and as soon as he says he wants to play for Real Madrid there will be conversations between the two clubs," Real's director general of the presidency Miguel Angel Arroyo was quoted as saying in sports daily Marca on Thursday.

"We would willingly reach an agreement with Manchester United if it is possible, that is to say, if they want to sell and if the price was affordable."

Ronaldo has said he will not speak about his future until after the tournament.

Real are not planning to make major changes to the squad but their interest in Ronaldo and Euro 2008 are making it difficult to complete their dealings.

They have been linked with a move for Valencia's Spain striker David Villa and, if Ronaldo comes, the sale of Brazil forward Robinho, with Manchester United and Chelsea reportedly interested.

"Things are a little dependent on what happens at Euro 2008. There is a lot of speculation but that is normal," Real coach Bernd Schuster told Spanish radio station Cope . "I have already said there will be very few new faces."

In addition to my previous post - its not just the retarded journalists, its the posters on here fueling this fundamentally shaky fabrication of a transfer saga

Thing is we don't want to sell, and have said at no price will Ronaldo be sold.

In other words, feck off Real.

Aha! It's not Real unsettling Ronaldo, but Fergie using Ronaldo as a cog in a devious plan to upset CL rivals Real.

Cristiano Ronaldo won libel damages Thursday from a British tabloid newspaper over claims he was fined by Manchester United for using a cell phone during a training session.

Attorney Simon Smith told London's High Court that The Sun's report suggested "wholly unprofessional and arrogant behavior'' by the Portugal winger in using his phone four times on United's training pitches in a single day.

Ronaldo accepted undisclosed damages from News Group Newspapers, publisher of Britain's biggest selling daily newspaper, which falsely said he had been ordered to pay a fine of 8,000 pounds (US$16,130; ?10,500) by manager Alex Ferguson.

"I felt it necessary to bring this action in order to protect my reputation as a professional footballer,'' said Ronaldo, who has donated his payout to a charity in Portugal. "Contrary to the impression the article gave, I take training very seriously and do not want people to think I do not try my best in training.

"I'm glad something good has come out of this and that a charity I care about will receive the damages.''

Ronaldo is currently at the European Championship with Portugal, which was to play Germany on Thursday in the quarterfinals.

The press will love him even more now.
