Am I the only one who actually wants Ronaldo to win the Euro?

No, I want that to happen too. Then, if he really does want to leave, it will hike his price up even further. Would be making the best of a bad situation.

but inspite of the positive things Fergie has said about the Glazzers...I still think they are the ones who are holding back on giving Ronaldo the improved contract...thus Fergie's threat to leave....

I believe the club stated that that claim was utter bollocks, as it were?

I (and probably may others here) would... it's just that an early exit seems to be our best chance of putting an end to all this transfer bollox, which is sad really.

I still think he is going to delay his "decision" again if Portugal go out tonight. It seems like he's waiting for 1: United to tell him that he can leave or 2: that he's getting a improved contract.

I think you could be right here mate.

I reckon the Glazers would love to cash in.

Cristiano Ronaldo won libel damages Thursday from a British tabloid newspaper over claims he was fined by Manchester United for using a cell phone during a training session.

Attorney Simon Smith told London's High Court that The Sun's report suggested "wholly unprofessional and arrogant behavior'' by the Portugal winger in using his phone four times on United's training pitches in a single day.

Ronaldo accepted undisclosed damages from News Group Newspapers, publisher of Britain's biggest selling daily newspaper, which falsely said he had been ordered to pay a fine of 8,000 pounds (US$16,130; ?10,500) by manager Alex Ferguson.

"I felt it necessary to bring this action in order to protect my reputation as a professional footballer,'' said Ronaldo, who has donated his payout to a charity in Portugal. "Contrary to the impression the article gave, I take training very seriously and do not want people to think I do not try my best in training.

"I'm glad something good has come out of this and that a charity I care about will receive the damages.''

Ronaldo is currently at the European Championship with Portugal, which was to play Germany on Thursday in the quarterfinals.

The press will love him even more now.

Just shows that papers are full of bullshit.

He hasn't said that he's leaving. He's just said two things, in my mind:
1. He's staying (numerous times)
2. He'll announce his future after the Euros (which could very well be exactly how long a new contract with united is for)

We, the fans, and the journos, the muppets, know nothing. Absolutely nothing. Now leave him alone.

He's staying.

wait... hang on a moment!

In the middle of all this there was a rumour about Fergie leaving over this??

Jesus fecking Christ!

Yeah, if Ronaldo goes without his say so. Probably a counter rumour to the dirty dagos going direct to the gimps with an offer.

I wonder why a club such as Barca isn't coming in and offering something like £20m for Ronaldo? I reckon Fergie will happily offload him to anyone who isn't Real Madrid right now. Maybe even Liverpool could try their luck...

Fergie wouldn't sell them a shit defender like Heinze. He would hardly consider selling Ronaldo to them.

We will lose a shit load of money in merchandise if we sell him. As Real say themselves, the most expensive players are the cheapest one. They know they'll make huge money by buying Ronaldo. No way should we sell him for anything under 125m.

.........plus Robben, Schneider and Ramos

It's pretty obvious Ronaldo generates revenue that reaches more widely than his image rights.

The Glazers have made their stance clear, he is not for sale. :nono:

Of course he's for sale if the price is right. We have a huge debt to pay off. The Gimps aren't going to stick him in the stands and watch his value fall .

We have owners who know the price of everything and the value of nothing . Be afraid

whatever we get for Ronaldo wont put a huge dent on that debt....so I dont think the money we get for him is the motivation....the key is to have a succesful team...which is Fergie's goal.

Do you think Nike could offer him an amazing deal provided he stays at United (a Nike club)

That was the rumour - they were supposed to be preparing an uber-deal for him with a big time range of CR7 products. That's his new signature and his trademark, so he's been doing some marketing of it already (he had a CR7 hat on the other day when he was being interviewed).

Nike wants to turn it into a mega-brand like they did with US basketballer Michael Jordan in the 1990s, with their Air Jordan shoes and their TMed Jordan 23 logo.

I love the way it says they are "prepared" to wait as if it's part of some great master plan. They haven't got any fecking option. United won't talk to them.

Dildo-face knows he's gone so far that he will HAVE to sign Ronaldo or he will have to resign. He's trying to dial it back a notch to save his own power base.

Thought Becks was always Adidas

Yes, he was. This actually was a problem when he was playing for United, as United and Umbro/Nike had the rights to marketing his image in United kits, but Adidas had the rights to marketing his image alone.

Since his switch to Real, the marketing campaign has skyrocketed internationally because he was at an adidas club so he was exclusively wearing adidas products at all times.

Wow.....just...wow.

That's stepping over the line. Surely FIFA can't ignore that. They aren't just praising a player anymore, they are publicly asking him to make a move happen, while admitting they haven't even talked to his club yet.

Good luck with that.

Care to make a wager?

I'll go in on that bet as well.

Ronaldo - what a cnut

Viva Ronaldo!

I reckon the Glazers would love to cash in.

They wouldn't. He's worth a lot more to the club than any transfer fee with his imaging rights (which we currently largely control and is part of his negotiations with the club - he signed them away when he was a bit-part teenager).

I recall madrid saying that he is worth over 500 million to them.

They want him for marketing reasons. We want him for footballing reasons.

If he wants to be a product, Real is the place to go.

If he wants to be a footballer, United is the place to stay.

I'm pretty confident all of this is overexaggerated bullshit spurred on by both his negotiations for image rights and a pay raise as well as his gigantic ego, and he will stay a footballer.

Viva Ronaldo!

Where will Ronaldo start next season?

Manchester United 1/3
Real Madrid 9/4
Barcelona, Inter 33/1

With Skybet

Hills were offering 1/1 United, 4/6 Madrid yesterday.

A bit of a difference for Ronaldo to start at Madrid... Hills 4/6 and Skybet 9/4. One of them knows something that the other doesn't.....

Barring retirement, Raul will never leave Madrid, and Madrid will never get rid of him.

feck them though, if they are making us lose Ronaldo, we may as well kick them in the bollox. If we demand Raul as part of the deal they may not be so keen to sign Ronnie.

If only it was that easy!

That is just total nonsense and completely stupid.

Odds are based on betting patterns and on the same media bullshit we are hyperventilating and drama queening about.

They have no inside information. They aren't flies on the wall in Ramon Calderon's bedroom watching Ronaldo and Ruud van Nistelrooy spit-roasting Carmen Electra.

No way Carmen would let Horse Face up on her!

Real have hit a new low, asking the player publicly to move, whilst under contract with us. How can FIFA ignore this? The new quotes even admits they have not spoken to us yet! One funny thing about the new story is that they would only sign Ronaldo if he was 'affordable' when they previously were going on about money being no object and how they had the finances to support the move

I agree with most of that. There is no way they have some kind of inside information which helps dictate the odds, but where the hell did the highlighted part come from
