The guy who created this story on the terra story is probably pretty happy. This is the biggest WUM in the history of the internet. Every paper will be reporting this tomorrow.

Ronaldo: I'd like to play for Real Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo would like to play for Real Madrid if the Spanish club is indeed willing to open up its bank account.

"Yes, I would like to play for Real Madrid," Ronaldo told Brazil's Terra Web site today. "But only if it is true that they are willing to spend with me and with Manchester United the amount they are saying they are. But it's not up to me."

The star winger did not elaborate.

Ronaldo had been silent about his future since Portugal arrived in Neuchatel for this month's European Championship. He said recently that he would soon announce his plans for the future, but apparently changed his mind after arriving in Switzerland.

"It's important to a send a message," he said, according to Terra. "Starting today, I don't talk about this subject with absolutely no one. I will only talk about this after the Euros."

The world's media have been speculating on Ronaldo's future for months, with Madrid reportedly willing to pay a world record transfer fee for the favorite to win FIFA's 2008 World Player of the Year award.

Does anyone seem to think his attitude is that, he knows Real Madrid want him and if they make a bid that United accept, then happy days he'll go to them, if not, shit happens and he'd happily carry on for us. Yet the media is just turning it into a nightmare for everyone.

I don't think he desperately wants to leave this club personally.

Not too long after, it began to appear on other sites. They all began to report it with the line "according to Terra". Apparently since then someone from the Portugese FA has been on SSN saying there was no interview, and I think SSN have interviewed the reporter's gardeners nephew, who used to drive a bus. Or something.

I finally manage to get myself away from the refresh button for the first time in 3 days, so I can get some work done for clients who are begining to lose their patience, and I come back a couple of hours later and all hell has broken loose.
I'm not gonna get any work done this summer, I'm gonna loose all my clients and I will be looking for a job come August, while this kid I'm so obsessed with will be earning 300000 Euros a week, and Roberto Cavali designs him some special shorts to accomodate a size 6 model to suck his dick while playing for Madrid. WHY?????????????

Actually though - the alleged quote would be interesting if it had been from Ron. I'll rephrase it: Put your money where your month is Calderon.

Madrid have been doing double-speak on this for the past week. No bid and excusing themselves from that by claiming they can't bid without United's agreement (what? United won't tell them their fax number?) and hoping that Ronaldo would do it for them.

I think that's part of it. It's Ferguson v Real Madrid. Both usually get their own way. It's up to Ronaldo to see which one wins this time.

This is exactly what I see as well. He said it's not up to him, he'll only move if we accept the bid. Once again the headlines don't quite match the text.

I've always felt that Ronaldo isn't one who'll pledge his everlasting allegiance to us. But he does know that this is a good place for him to be, and that is exactly how he's treating it. Nothing more, nothing less. He isn't a boyhood United fan and he never pretended to be one, but I think he has enough loyalty to Fergie and Queiroz to stay on if they want him to stay.

we've had big name departures over the last 15 years and still prospered, Hughes, Ince and Kanschelskis all left together and our kids won us the league, Cantona left and we won the European Cup shortly after, Ruud and Beckham havent been missed and I havent even mentioned Keano yet !
 
MUTV should get a team out to Switzerland and end this crap, there'd be no doubt on here as to the validity of a report from them.

Paddy can handcuff himself to Ronaldo till he fesses up.
