Surprise of the day, Real player talks about Ronaldo.

Raul backs Real Madrid bid for Man Utd's Ronaldo
tribalfootball.com - June 05, 2008

Real Madrid captain Raul has given president Ramon Calderon the thumbs up over his pursuit of Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo - though with a warning.

AS says Calderon made Raul aware of their push for Ronaldo immediately after celebrating back-to-back championships last season, with the president declaring: "We will try to sign Cristiano Ronaldo and I would like to know your opinion as leader of the dressing room."

Raul replied: "President, at this moment he is the No1 in the world. Anything that can improve the team is good and he can make us grow.

"But you cannot afford to experiment. Please, do not ruin the spirit we have."

can't believe the shit these fags come out with, Marca, tribal, guardian are all teh same fecking lying bastards

Ronaldo thinks he has outgrown us. He is treating the club with real disdain every time he comes out with one of his veiled flirtations or says that he will decide in due course.

This saga, supposed transfer wrangle is really beginning to grind my gears. FFS man make up your mind and stop teasing us, you ain't no pussy and your shit sure does stink

Cantona tells Ronaldo : United will be great with or without you

The Old Trafford legend is convinced United needn't worry about losing the Portuguese international - insisting they can dominate even if the double footballer of the year moves to Real Madrid this summer.

"United is one of the biggest clubs in the world," said Cantona. "They have been winning, are winning and will continue to win things generation after generation. They will always win whoever they have playing for them."

The simmering saga over Ronaldo's future continues to cast a shadow over United's summer.

The 23-year-old 42-goal winger has promised to make clear his future after Real's much-publicised pursuit of him.

Chief executive David Gill yesterday refused to add more fuel to the Ronaldo debate but revealed he is almost certain to miss their pre-season tour of South Africa.

"Our position is clear," he said. "Alex and myself have stated it in the last week or so and that is all we are going to say full stop.

"Whether he is on the tour depends on how Portugal do in the European Championships.

"The Euro 2008 players will come back three weeks after their team is knocked out when they've had a holiday."

Thats interesting because if you look on the comments from Real fans on various web sites, they are not 100% happy about Ronaldo joining them. Mainly because of money and wages but also because they prefer Robhino.

I have a feeling we're not going to get an announcement til after the Euros, if at all...

suppose that happens (I think it does), will the OT faithful sing their hearts out for Ronaldo? a bit of a cold shoulder in the beginning, me thinks.

Wake up to this........he's going then?

Real Madrid are prepared to offer Cristiano Ronaldo a world-record five-year contract worth £300,000 per week after tax in order to entice the Portuguese to the Santiago Bernabeu next season, and the player has already told relatives and close friends of his intention to leave Manchester United this summer.
United will not make Ronaldo fly to Nigeria
Football fans' forum | Manchester United homepage That deal would not only represent more than a 50 per cent increase on his present Old Trafford wage, but would also make the Double Footballer of the Year easily the world's highest-paid footballer at £15m a year.

The world at his feet: Ronaldo may become the world's most expensive footballer if he joins MadridThe Spanish giants are hoping that this mind-boggling offer, which works out at £75m over its duration, will finally tempt Ronaldo into breaking his silence and declare his intention to leave Old Trafford this summer.
Marca say that Portugal national team coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has already spoken to his star player about the transfer at their Euro 2008 training camp in Switzerland and has advised him to move to the Spanish capital, although Ronaldo is being urged by the Portuguese football federation not to make his decision public until after their opening match with Turkey, so as not to distract the side.
Only last week, Madrid president Ramon Calderon reportedly offered Ronaldo a £185,000-a-week contract to up sticks and join the Spanish champions, a move which led United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to threaten to report them to football's world governing body Fifa, before adding that the Glazer family would rather let the player rot in the stands than sell him to Madrid.
Ronaldo, 23, stated on Saturday that he would announce whether he was staying at United in the next "three or four days", but according to the Daily Express he may now delay that decision until he and his agent, Jorge Mendes, have seen the exact details of Madrid's improved contract offer.
If the two clubs were to reach agreement over the transfer, and United have insisted in recent weeks that Ronaldo is not for sale "at any price", then the fee would easily eclipse the previous record of £46m that Madrid paid to secure the services of Zinedine Zidane from Juventus in 2001.
Calderon, however, insists that Madrid can not only afford the transfer fee, but also the player's wage demands and image rights through his projected shirt sales that are expected to outdo even David Beckham's during his spell in La Liga.
"What I have always said is that this club wants its money to be on the pitch, not in the bank,” said the Madrid president.
"Nothing is expensive or cheap on its own. The counter-balance is what you receive for the price you pay. They know what we earn and it is made public that Madrid has it. Last year we made signings that looked expensive but now they look cheap."
Confusion still reigns, though, over Madrid's exact intentions, with Calderon at one moment insisting his club did not want “to enter into conflict” with the Premier League champions.
"We’re not going to do anything against the wishes of a friend like Manchester," he said. "The signing of Cristiano Ronaldo is impossible. We cannot do anything about it because his club do not wish to sell.
"We do not want to force the issue because that is not the policy of Real Madrid when dealing with any club, especially not one that we consider a friend."
However, in the next breath, he went on to add: "We’re sorry that Manchester are unhappy, but Real have nothing to do with this affair. We know Manchester are not selling, so why would we persist? It’s a problem between the player and the club."
Meanwhile, in a further twist to this seemingly never-ending transfer saga, boardroom tensions at Barcelona could result in the Catalan giants fighting it out with Madrid for Ronaldo if the club's former vice-president, Sandro Rosell, succeeds in his bid to unseat the president, Joan Laporta, in a vote of confidence amongst Barca's members.
Premier League Transfer Talk | Calendar: Euro 2008 fixtures Laporta and Rosell worked together to win the presidency in 2003 and the two men drove the club's ultimately unsuccessful attempts to sign Beckham from United, who accepted a £25m bid from Barca before selling the midfielder to Madrid.
Rosell and Laporta went on to split acrimoniously, but reports in Spain suggest that Rosell, a former Nike executive, is planning to spark a battle for the Barcelona presidency this summer, with an audacious plan to sign Ronaldo central to his bid.
With Ronaldo positioned as their flagship footballer, it is understood that Nike would prefer him to move to Barcelona rather than adidas-sponsored Madrid, should he leave United.

Its all gone fkn crazy now.
Grab the $ United, and lets go find another Ronnie! Oh wait......he's the best.......ah well.

Marca say

I don't why ppl keep posting stuff that comes directly or indirectly from marca. they're known to be the most irresponsible, unethical journos out there. yet, when they 'say' something, the muppets grab it as gospel. ffs, you'd think this was their first silly season

To be honest provided that we can get Ben Arfa, a very good striker and a few others, I WON'T lose much sleep over Ronaldo were he to leave. I just want a peace of mind. Should he leave then, I think it will only be fair for United to receive the full market price of what he's worth as well as a sizeable percentage of any shirt sells Franco might make out if the boy. Afterall we made him who he is.
I reckon Rooney, the Argie monster, Nani (provided that he doesn't do a Ronaldo), Anderson and Ben Arfa (please be true, please be true, should he sign), will all step up and more than make up for losing Ronaldo.

No mention of MARCA in the article. Don't call me a muppet. I don't look on it as Gospel. Just something to share on here. It's just a report that's out there and I saw it hadn't been posted before. Not in a UK paper like the Telegraph, normally on the ball.

Have we been linked to him?

Manchester United must face the real possibility that Cristiano Ronaldo has played his final match for the club after the Portuguese winger publicly declared his intention to join Real Madrid at the end of the European Championship.

Speaking from Portugal's training camp in the Swiss city of Neuchatel on Wednesday, Ronaldo made a keenly awaited statement on his future. The 23-year-old stated that he wanted to leave Old Trafford to sign for the Spanish champions if they made good on their promises of world record transfer fees and wages. Spanish media reports have placed the value of a Madrid offer to United at €100m and the player's salary at £15m a year.

"I want to play for Real Madrid, but only if it is true they are eager to pay me and Manchester United what they have been saying they will," said Ronaldo in an interview with the respected Brazilian website Terra. "However, it does not depend on me."

The issue of Ronaldo's future has been the dominant feature of Portugal's European Championship training camp, overshadowing the team's preparations and seeing questions raised about the player's state of mind. Hoping to prevent inquests at national team press conferences and post-match mixed zones, Ronaldo insisted that he would not speak about his choice of club again during the tournament.

"It is important to send a message," he said. "From now on I will not talk again about this until the end of the Euros. It is not worth asking me because I will not reply."

United have repeatedly stated that they will not allow Ronaldo to move this summer, but the club may now have to improve the five-year contract they agreed with the forward in April 2007. Given the scale of Madrid's offer, the player can expect to comfortably exceed the net €10m that Michael Ballack receives from Chelsea each year.

That's fecked it. Tata Cristiano you turncoat cnut.

Why would he speak in a brazilian newspaper..

That's what i don't understand...seems easy to shift the quote to another country far away.

The quality press are quickly turning into tabloid gutter ones.

Right thats it. Let's squeeze Madrid for as much as we can for him and try and use that money for Benzema and Ribery, and at the same time allow Wayne Rooney to take his rightful and destined place as the standard bearer for our team.

A move to Madrid makes very little footballing sense for Ronaldo and that apparent statement confirms what a lot of this is all about - money. As good as he is and as much as he's done for us he can feck off. I only want players who want to play for our club.
