ALL Ronaldo's future/comments/speculation

I reckon were waiting for Ronaldo to decide. Simple as. Unfortunately Ronaldo has played himself into a position of power. I do believe United are strong on this. (hope so otherwise SAF and Gill have just lied to us) But ultimately it comes down to what the player wants. Just got to wait until he opens his mouth and utters the words 'I am staying for a long time/ I want to go to Madrid'

So WILL we let him go if he says he wants to?

This got lost in the 15 pages of posts since I went to bed and got up.
Think it sums it up for now.

So what are the options......
He says he is staying for the length of his contract. Great. After the first couple of games we'll be all over him again. BPITW!
He says he wants to leave now. Then feck Off. We are Manchester United!
He says he will leave next year. feck off now.
He says he loves us all and will never leave us. Legend.

What is interesting for me now is #3....if he decides to stay for one more year. How will we treat him, as fans? Viva Ronaldo? Somehow don't think so.

Marca are up to their old tricks again. They state that Barcelona are keeping an eye out for him is well. If Ronaldo were ever to leave us, he would definetly join his "Dream Club: Read Madrid".

As idiotic as marca are, even they must have reliased that, he would only join Real; that proves Marca are absolute BS.

Manchester United have stated that the superstar is not for sale, but it is believed that there would be little the Premier League champions could do should he state his desire to leave.

At Camp Nou, the current regime face a vote of no confidence and if the club members support that in a forthcoming referendum then elections will be held.

Rosell, the former Blaugrana vice-president and Joan Laporta's running mate in 2003, is already considered to be a favourite should that happen and he could woo the voters with the promise of landing Ronaldo.

According to Marca, the man who wil certainly run in 2010 to be president of Barça, should elections not happen this year, has several aces up his sleeve.

One key factor is Rosell's close friendship with Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, who he knows well from various previous deals, including the one that took Deco to Camp Nou.

If he were to win this summer, with September a likely date, then the new man at the helm would look to install current Portugal boss Luiz Felipe Scolari as coach at Barça when his contract expires with the national team.

Ronaldo is known to have a great relationship with the Brazilian and his influence in the deal could be huge because the pair work very well together at international level.

A third, and equally important element, is Nike. Rosell was the head of the sportswear company's operation in South America and has many contacts and connections still with the organisation.

They would push Ronaldo to join Barcelona and play in their kit, rather than to move to Real Madrid, who are sponsored by Adidas.

All this hypothetical, but Ramon Calderón must be hoping that Joan Laporta manages to retain his position at the Catalan giants to avoid having to take both Rosell and Sir Alex Ferguson.

Because treatment of the supporters, love for the club, loyalty, valueing what the supporters have done for you and how the club staff have helped you progress is all part of being a legend..

That's why the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, Eric Cantona, Roy Keane, George Best, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Ole Solskjaer are held in such high regards with the supporters....

Eric had arrogance that Ronaldo has, except Eric always paid tribute to the supporters and Manchester United meant a lot to him...

"When I think Football, I think Manchester United.." - Eric Cantona..

Ability is just ONE of the factors that contributes to legendary status at a football club, at least at Manchester United Football Club..there's a lot more to being a legend than JUST ability.

If he actually does leave and it turns out he was fecking with us because he knows he can, then yes he is a cnut.

But if he comes back next season with a big fat £150,000 a week contract then he will be almost completely justified for doing what he did, and if he is looking for a contract then he hasn't really done much wrong. SAF said Ronaldo's a smart lad, so let's hope he's right and he knows what he is doing.

Eric left to pursue a dream, to become a movie star even though he could have done so much more with us. Similar to Ronaldo's case because when he leaves to Madrid he will be pursuing a dream, a much less stupid dream than the one Le King had.

The likes of Scholes, Giggs, Keane, Law, Charlton and Solsjkaer in my eyes are legends, King Eric should not be if Ronaldo isn't.

Where is that quote?

Either way i doubt that him thinking he wont be awarded the world player of the year award because he plays for us is behind is reasoning. We are the European champions and he is the clear favourite for the award.

I said alleged quote. There are articles in the papers today about him "saying" that he's going to stay for one more season. If it's individual recognition he claims, then the world player of the year award is obviously what he wants. If he can win that at United this year (because he perhaps felt he deserved it last year) then he'll not need to move to achieve that. That way he could make Real his swansong at 28 rather than now.

Gill stands tough on Ron
by Joseph Caron Dawe, 04 June 2008

Manchester United chief executive David Gill has issued a stern reiteration that Cristiano Ronaldo will be at Old Trafford come the start of next season.
The 23-year-old Portugal international is currently preparing for Euro 2008 but the speculation over a possible move to Real Madrid has somewhat distracted from his routine.
The former Sporting youngster said recently he would make a decision on his future over the next few days, but Gill has taken the chance in the interim to firmly state United’s stance once again.
“Our position is clear. Sir Alex (Ferguson) and I stated it in the last week,” said Gill as he announced United will play Portsmouth in Nigeria in July.
“That's it. That's all we are going to say on the matter, full stop.”

His girlfriend is from Barcelona.

i was happy to sweep away his reported comments as tabloid misquotes, but hearing what he said after the Portugal match gave me a very bad feeling.

if Ronaldo leaves, particularly in this manner, he'll never be a Manchester United legend in my eyes.

i'd view him as a traitor, forever. a very talented traitor, but a traitor all the same.

i can't imagine why any player would GAMBLE with what he's got at Old Trafford.

it's 100 times worse than what Heinze did, because the level of faith and love that we've shown Ronaldo eclipses any other player in modern times.

i hope he's playing some silly press game that's gotten out of hand for him, and he stays and learns to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT TO THE PRESS and to RESPECT HIS TEAM MATES.

but i fear a significant amount of damage has been done through all this, even if he does stay.

after such a fantastic season, why do this at all?

it hurts, and it's needless.

Pursuing a dream is different from telling the supporters one thing, and then changing what you've said 2 minutes later..

Minutes after the CL Final on ITV after being asked are you staying "yes, I'm staying"

Then couple of hours later on BBC after being asked so you're staying "I don't know, I don't promise anything"

then later "yes I'm staying"
and then a day or two later "I will see, I have to make a decision"

Oh and this is not some media tabloid conjecture...These are actual quotes from the player we've seen or heard come from his mouth on the video/audio interviews.

You don't feck with the fans like that.

If he wants to leave, no one's condeming him, just don't feck around and give mixed signals!

From todays DT.

Cristiano Ronaldo has told his agent, Jorge Mendes, that he wants to leave Manchester United to fulfil his "dream" of playing for Real Madrid.

The Portugal international's wishes have been made clear to the Spanish giants and their president, Ramon Calderon, will now move forward with his plan to try to bring the world's most coveted footballer to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Cristiano Ronaldo
On the move: Cristiano Ronaldo has made up his mind to join Spanish giants Real Madrid

Ronaldo will be offered a deal worth £150,000 per week after tax, a contract that he feels is too good to refuse, but as well as fulfilling his financial demands, he has informed his closest advisers that the chance of playing for such a prestigious club is one he does not want to miss out on.

On Saturday, the double Footballer of the Year said that he would announce his decision regarding his one-off move to Madrid "in two or three days", however, it is now believed he will not talk to the world's media before Friday at the earliest.

It is understood that one of his associates has told Portuguese journalists that he as made up his mind to leave United and that he hopes the club will back down on the previously hardline approach that they have adopted to his world-record transfer to the Spanish champions.

This latest twist will only serve to further damage relations between the two clubs, which are already at breaking point after weeks of rumours and leaks emanating from the Spanish capital.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be furious about this latest development, but until the player comes out publicly to deny he wants to leave Old Trafford, which he has repeatedly refused to do, the speculation will continue, with the feeling growing that he does after all wish to depart the Premier League and European champions for pastures new.

It is believed that his compatriot Mendes and Madrid are working on a strategy to overcome United's present resistance, however, seeing how the latter have already threatened to report their Spanish counterparts to football's world governing body, Fifa, while Ferguson has revealed how the Glazer family would rather let the player rot in the reserves than sell him to their rivals, that may well prove problematical.

Ferguson will not, though, as has been suggested in recent weeks, make a personal trip to Portugal's Euro 2008 training camp in Switzerland to persuade the player to remain at the 'Theatre of Dreams', like he did in 1996 with Eric Cantona, preferring instead to go on his summer holiday to the South of France and leave the matter in the hands of chief executive David Gill.

What a load of bollocks. Eric wanted something we couldn't give him - a life outside of football. Within football he would never have looked anywhere else other than United, and so is rightly seen as a legend.
If Ronnie's dream is to play for Madrid, then that is stupid and disrespectful to United, as we can offer him everything they can and more, due to being a better club with better players a better manager and better fans. He will merely be moving for reasons such as money, climate and nagging mother, which does dtract from potential legend status.

As I have said before, plenty of times, if he is sending mixed signals just because he knows he has the media and the fans eating out of his hands then he is a cnut and we should sell him, if he is looking for a contract though then I will forget all about it in a heartbeat.

If that is the issue here, wouldn't he have been already offered a contract by Sir Alex? After all, he does love him too much.

You are absolutely right.
Rubbish. People forget that Bestie left us when he was 27. You lot would probably be slagging him off as well.

I agree if he leaves in this manner, he won't be remembered as finally as he should have been. But you don't have end your career at United to be considered a legend.

He could easily have pursued that dream a few years later and in this few years he could have given us so much more. The fact that it never really worked out for him anyway is what makes it a stupid dream, it was unrealistic.

If his dream is to play for Real Madrid then I am not holding that against him. He won't earn much more money there and he already said that the weather isn't that much of an influence.

True, but i suspect most of the fans wont accept that honour(Legend Tag) being made to him.

I personally believe that he has his heart set on moving. If he intended on staying why all the "2 to three days" bullshit? Why not just reassure the fans that he's staying? He's not stupid, he knows how worried Uniteds fans are right now. But his actions are proving he doesn't give a shit.

I reckon his agent was told over the weekend that Madrid would be officially bidding for him this week hence Ronaldo's comments after the portugal match.

I hope to God i'm wrong and this really is just a way for him to gain a better contract but my gut feeling is telling me that Ronaldo's love affair with the club is over :(

If he does want to go then i just hope to God we end up raping Madrid. £60 million pounds + Robhino and Ramos would be fair IMO.

Manchester United >>>>>>>>>>>>>Ronaldo

God, if you can't see the difference between how Best left and how Ronnie is potentially leaving, it's really not worth discussing.
It's not about age and whether they go somewhere else - Schmeichs is a legend and he went on to play for City!

Doubt he'll go public with the timeframe he has all set out in his mind, he'd keep it vague.

If there is an announcement which still may not happen, more likely to be:

"I am pleased to be signing this new contract, i am very ahpy here and with our success and hope i can help to bring more next season."

All attempts by the media to get him to be more specific will be rebuffed.

I do hope that if he is staying, he has the respect for the club to keep his Madrid ambitions to himself, and not go around sewing the seed in the mindsets of Nani, Anderson and anyone else.

Yes but his career's just starting. So he finally shows what a great player he is/he can be and hence he's ready for Madrid.

Very far from legend.

But that's not even the point, the point is our club have shown a great deal of faith in him, I'm sure NONE of the spanish or Italian clubs would've given him.

It's this "galaktiko" crap that's pissing everyone off. Because it seems Real madrid can't do it any other way except with a lot of money and "superstars".

Best point was made purely to show that you don't have to stay at United forever. And I am pretty sure cafites would have slagged him off back in the day given his off field shinanigans.

Already said if Ronaldo leaves in this manner he won't be considered a legend. But there is no way he will disliked more than someone like Heinze.

He's played over 200 games for the club. He's won three leagues, an fa cup and a champions league. Has won pfa awards and is likely to win either the european and/or world player of the year

He also got to the final with portugal in the last euros and starred in the world cup. Added to the fact his international record is outstanding

He also won the golden boot, in the processing scored the most in the last seasons champions league campaign

And you say his career is just starting?..

I'm starting to think you're right. He can't admit his desire to go, as he doesn't know if the deal will be done, or we'll be stubborn / Madrid will balk, and he would then be staying here but the fans would turn against him. Similarly he can't say he wants to stay, because he'd be lying...

He's won the carling cup as well.

Considering he's 23 years old and the most talented player for a long time, that could go on and become the world's best player to ever have graced the game I'd say he's just in the beginning of his career as well. He could become a legend in 4 or 5 years, the biggest legend of all time if he sees his career out in United. But that will probably not happen..

Yes, he's 23, it's just starting

he started at 18. You say he's very far from legend. But let me ask you, for a guy that's just starting he's achieved an awful lot ain't he? I cannot think of any player, in my lifetime, that has made such strides

This thread really has gone round in circles so many times.

Why don't we just agree on one of two things?:

1. He decides he's leaving, never fufills his potential to be a legend and we all call him a cnut.

2. He signs a new contract, stays on for another 2 years or so and he becomes one of the best players to grace our pitch and all is forgiven.

If he goes to Madrid, the best part of his career could already be behind him at 23... thos besty comparisons hold some water in that respect (even if for vastly different reasons):(

yep 3 leagues. one with ruud (think we still had veron then) and the other two the last two years
