So lets spice this up abit.

Surely the Glazers deserve A HUGE AMOUNT OF CREDIT for backing SAF to the hilt on this.

Despite the all the accusations from all the boo boys about 'the debt', despite the fact that we could have sold The cnut and bought two top class players and still made a handsome profit with the change, despite all that, it seems they are willing to to what SAF considers best for the club.

Would love to hear what Ralph and his fellow boo boys have to say!

Sam ol'buddy I'm one of the very few posters on the Caf who has occasionally, perhaps slightly in the role of devil's advocate, but none the less HAVE actually dared to say there are aspects of the Glazer's ownership which I approve of.

Nope - Margaret Thatcher - ruiner of British industry - destroyer of social programmes and welfare - who stripped workers of much of their protection and gave our oil profits to her rich friends to fund the entrepreneurial exercises that would regenerate the overall economy (never happened).

Yeah, whatever..

players like Ronaldo are pure gold...once in a generation...players like this come along...a long contract is no risk....he still has at least 8 great years ahead of him....the lad looks after himself and is a dedicated professional.....look how long Figo was at the top of his game...

I agree

Several reports in the Spanish press saying that Madrid did make at least one formal offer for Ron over the summer.

Now the NOTW has SAF confirming it:

ALEX FERGUSON insists he will always be at war with Real Madrid after their sly bid to steal away Cristiano Ronaldo.

Fuming Manchester United boss Fergie has revealed Real DID table an official bid for Ronaldo last month — that was rejected out of hand.

But the Spanish side’s decision to make an official move came on the back of two months of outrageous attempts to entice Ronaldo to the Bernabeu.

Ferguson was so infuriated at Real’s efforts to snatch the Portuguese superstar he led United’s decision to report the La Liga outfit to FIFA.

And even though he won the multi-million pound battle for Ronaldo, he will never forgive United’s rivals for their clandestine tactics.

He said: “We haven’t had any recent contact with Real Madrid. Has there been any attempt to heal the rift? Yeah, that will be right!

“They put a bid in. I don’t know if it was fax or letter or whatever. Just one. It was sometime in the summer.

"But the final decision was taken at the end of the season when the first nonsense appeared and Cristiano referred to his future being decided in the next few days.

“It was decided there and then he was staying. There was never any change in our stance.’’

The news means Ronaldo, 23, will find it just as hard to engineer a move to the Spanish capital next season — as he currently plans.

Ferguson will not entertain contact with Real Madrid and hopes Ronaldo may even have dropped his desire to move to Spain by then.

He added: “I think we will just let the thing settle down now. It will take its course.

“The whole business will settle down, he will realise he is at a great club. It will sort itself out. His future will sort itself out.’’

--------

Their other article today has a rerun of that story about Ron having to pay Madrid 20m Euros compensation for failing to force the move.
http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/article12396.ece

Could be a fun hearing in front of the sport arbitration court.

The article also says Calderon is still talking about it not being over - as far as I can tell they're just picking up rumours from the Spanish press but there's no doubt Calderon is under enough pressure that he could be telling people almost anything.

REAL READY TO SUE RON
Madrid want £17million in compensation

UNITED - United boss Fergie and Ronaldo
By DAVID HARRISON, 09/08/2008

REAL MADRID are ready to hit Cristiano Ronaldo with a £17million compensation claim for refusing to join them.

The Spanish club are claiming that Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes struck the astonishing deal with them at the start of the summer transfer saga.

Real are adamant they agreed personal terms with the Manchester United star and insisted on the compensation clause if the transfer was not completed.

Spanish media sources, who have become Madrid’s unofficial mouthpiece during the Ronaldo negotiations, are reporting that Real president Ramon Calderon is determined to press ahead with the claim.

Calderon might be prepared to waive compensation if he gets a guaranteed assurance from Ronaldo that he will join them next summer.

But, amazingly, he has left the door open for the Portuguese winger to complete another U-turn before the August transfer window closes.

A Real insider said: “The doors are not closed to things undergoing a U-turn. Until the transfer window closes everything remains in the air.”

That will further enrage United boss Sir Alex Ferguson who has vowed to have no more dealings with the Spaniards.

I guess United can sue Real for whatever amount they want then; Ronaldo could be a United player for quite some time hahaha

Lets say this story was true, Ronaldo cannot guarantee he will join Madrid next year as he will only have been 2 years into a 5 year contract - I hope they do sue him, that way he'll never join Madrid.

Calderon is guilty of causing this disaster for Madrid, thats 2 years running for them now - doubt he'll be Madrid's president for much longer.

Lets say this story was true, Ronaldo cannot guarantee he will join Madrid next year as he will only have been 2 years into a 5 year contract

Technically true, but if we don't sell him we'll have to let him go for £12m the year after.

Technically true, but if we don't sell him we'll have to let him go for £12m the year after.

If it forces Madrid into a position where they have to sue or go back on their word, it could turn out to be an advantage for us.

But yeah I see what yout saying, only receiving £12million would be criminal - although 2 more seasons with us could be worth more than a £50million transfer fee - with the money the club receive from shirt sales, plus any potential prizemoney there is no limit to what he can generate in a further 2 years with us.

Two more years of world class service(what he did last year) and I would give a shit less if it was only 12 mil, I'd jetski him to Madrid myself. 7 years is a long in a players career these days. By then Anderson will have Mr. Anderson, and several other UNited players will have developed into their prime, or near it. He is a cash cow at moment maybe more than ever and he is ours now, and might be for even more than 2 years Im not gonna worry about it. On the Nike commercial that aired on US television today, the first person they showed was Ronaldo, Rooney also made it, and this was during an Olympic telecast. If Nike rate him that highly for an American audience, well....

The Sunday Express also has an article claiming that "Real in Rage at Ron" and say that he "...may have cost him chance to ever play for Madrid". I have tried to get the link but their site is so clunky I have given up trying.

However, if what they are saying is true and the above as well, it might have shown Ronaldo what can happen if you mess with the big boys. I hope it has also shown him the calibre of the team that "...It has always been my dream to play for..."

http://www.sundayexpress.co.uk/posts/view/56025/Ronaldo-could-stay-longer-Fergie This is on the site but I can't find the original back page story. The following is the text.

Sir Alex Ferguson is confident Cristiano Ronaldo will remain with Manchester United for longer than a single season.

Ronaldo confirmed this week he would remain at Old Trafford despite his love of boyhood heroes Real Madrid.

And Ferguson said: "As he gets older I think he will appreciate being here more and more."

The 23-year-old winger, currently sidelined after an ankle operation, has been chased by the Spanish giants for much of the summer.

It appeared inevitable Ronaldo would leave, only for Ferguson to talk him round during a meeting in Portugal last month.

And despite hefty opinion to the contrary, Ferguson is confident he can keep Ronaldo for longer.

"The longer people stay at this club you tend to not want to leave," Ferguson added.

"Rio Ferdinand is an obvious example of that. But really I'm just pleased we have managed to put all this Real Madrid stuff to bed. They know what they are dealing with now."

Even Blatter could not ignore that if it were true, they would basically be providing evidence against themselves talking to players without the other clubs permission, it makes no sense whatsoever.

That's fecking hysterical. If Madrid do go ahead and sue Ronaldo then they're making an admission of "guilt" re tapping him up! I wonder if FIFA mnight reconsider taking no action against Madrid if this sorry little rumour came to fruition!

I've read some bollocks in newspapers before but that has to be up there with the worst of it!

The compensation issue isn't getting a mention in AS and Marca at the moment but it has (quote-less and source-less) been bouncing around the Spanish press for a couple of weeks.

The "saner" wing of the Spanish press say that the compensation clause may kick in if Madrid agree a deal with United - in other words Ron can't then renegotiate or back out when it gets to the personal terms phase. Probably not illegal. I guess if I was being truly Machiavellian one question would be how long does the "contract" remain in force for - could it for example be used to force a move at the "Webster" stage or reduce his scope for renewing with us.

I can't believe the move or we sue story is true because, desperate as Calderon is, I doubt he could sue a player/agent for not breaching his contract without having a nasty journey to the arbitration court in front of him. Even FIFA would struggle to ignore it - the reason given for ignoring the tapping up complaint was that as there had been no breach of contract, Madrid couldn't be said to have encouraged a player to break his contract.

It's a non story. They're dreamers. Apart from anything else why'd ronaldo even sign such a document knowing that if he didn't push through with a transfer he'd have to pay this monies....

It's laughable and if it's a genuine madrid tactic then I don't think they'll endear themselves to many people

I picked up the print editions of AS and Marca today - both of them are dominated by the Olympics. So only two and a half pages of Ron in Marca, plus incidental mentions in the Robinho and Van de Vaart articles. Only one page + incidentals in AS, but they do claim to have spoken to him.

AS first then. Their reporters have been sat outside Ron's drive for a couple of days (in the continuous rain and 15C of Manchester as they say!) Yesterday, he apparently invited them in as far as the entrance hall. He refused to talk about things that, "can't be." Said that anything else was "in the future" - which they interpreted as an invitation to come back and talk next year. He wouldn't comment on United offering a contract renewal and when asked about how the Friday meeting with SAF went - he told them that they'd been in contact all summer.

So there we are - 5 minutes worth of no comment and one interesting note on what was happening between the club and Ron over the summer. They described it as him trying to take the heat out of things in the cold of Manchester.

AS also say that Madrid haven't given up yet and will be back with another bid next week.

Marca then - ah, what would we do without Marca?

Headlined: "Back to the routine - and the Manchester rain
Apparently Ron was at Carrington for 4 hours yesterday (first in / last out as befits a "head to toe" professional as Marca commented).

Headlined: "Madrid return to the battle - Last try for Cristiano"
It says Mendes is taking another, improved offer from Madrid and will take it directly to the Glazers. Calderon says that the signing in 2009 is easy (though see the next article for the obvious contradiction) - but still wants to try for this summer. Calderon apparently dismissed Ron's interview with Publico as Ron "covering his back"

Headlined: "And if we leave it until next year?"
Reporting in great detail an alleged phone call between Ron and Calderon that's supposed to have happened on Wednesday (Ron's interview with Publico and comments to A Bola came out that evening).

Calderon's alleged response to Ron's "what about next year" was "No, it's this year or nothing. A lot of things can happen here in the next year." and, "You've got to take a decision - we've done all we can."
Ron allegedly responded with a suggestion that there was another thing he could do and that they could talk again next week.

Meanwhile the fans and the press are alternating between the - "We don't want him anyway" (too expensive, too galactico, too English/Portuguese, too whatever) and the "United (SAF!) is dissing us and Ron's wimped out" positions. Ron also now stands accused of paralysing the European transfer market and ruining Madrid's pre-season.

Personally, I'm still convinced that if we stick to the "no sale" policy (better still if Robinho goes to Chelsea and Villa doesn't got to madrid) the place will go into meltdown.

I notice that Marca have gone quiet over all the lies they told this summer. No explanation, just more lies printed.
I would love to know what their response is to Ron being back in Manchester, despite them claiming he was refusing to come back :rolleyes:

can we all agree not to post any of that shite because we know what it'll say, it don't help anyone trying to just put it to bed. Can we do that? feck them and what they gotta say

I know I or anyone can avoid the thread but this stuff is no news and really helps no one and it's certainly pro madrid etc. Also 99% of it is bollocks

Biasness in the main forums

Having recently discovered this site, couldn't believe how biased some here are that I had to make comments, albeit in this Newbie forum, I don't care.
Take it for granted, I do not approve this anti Real Madrid stance most have taken and why should I when all this fiasco was more or less generated by C Ronaldo's dream move comments. Sure, Calderon has maybe overstated our intrest in Ronaldo, but heck, if Ronaldo had any decency he would have had said it from the start that he's staying, avoiding all this media talk. So please, don't mock the club Real Madrid, mock your player who's a spoilt child. No true Madrista wants Ronaldo, I can inform you that.

My second point is regarding all this English Premier League hype that is getting out of hand. What, just because EPL clubs had nice representation in this year's CL, we'll label the other league's as rubbish? Admittedly, the big clubs in Italy lack money( or better said, lack of motivated investors, talking about Berlusconi, the second richest owner in football behind Abra, refusing to spend on the club's well being), while the ones in Spain have been badly managed and are behind their English counterparts but that's it. The Spanish, Italian and English midlevel are on par, the bottom is probably superior in Spain and in Italy. And really, it's not about leagues, but about nationality as well. What's with this Spanish and Italian hatred? Envy them for having better player than England?

This hype has lead to bad ratings. Take the Villa vs Berbatov thread for example. How can anyone call Villa overrated on the backing of what, one season? Even for that season, Villa has all the excuses in the world. I mean when you play with a bunch of idiotic missfits under the guidance of a madman coach you are bound to underperform. Villa has proven himself over the years, his game is absolutely top class and he is a natural finisher. The only reason Villa isn't at Liverpool is because of that 30 million price tag which is as true as it gets. If we are going to use the way of measurment some do here, then let's take Wayne Rooney, who by those standards is probably the most overrated player on Earth. He's overrated anyway, potential potential, but you know what, you can't keep on living on the backing this "potential". People here find excuses for Wayne, when it's obvious that for the last 2 season's he hasn't performed. He plays an important role for Manchester United, so his absence will lead to MUFC underperforming, nevertheless, the level of performance he has put in the last years has been... average. But let's leave Rooney out of this, for my money, Villa is a better player than Torres. The later is performing because EPL football basically matches all his strengths. In Spain, the gulf of class was ever so evident.

There are more points I'd like to make, but I'll end it here. I understand this is a Manchester United fan forum, but stop living in that dream world, ok? Well done on a double, but sitting on your laurels will only take you back to the 1999-2003 era. Good luck this coming season.
