Time for Tevez to come out with a "come-to-United" line.

He would, too. He's a good lad, our Carlitos. Fergie's got to give himself time to get it sorted but I've no doubt we could. Sting Madrid, hard (they can get the money, says Calderon, Ha!) and, yes, please. If we could sort it, I'd gift wrap Ronaldo in bows for 'em.

Jo: why don't you think Mendes wants this move?? Just interested in your thoughts.
could well be true that Calderon has been big-noting himself and making promises he can't keep.

Fergie stated that Mendes wouldn't want the move because usually when big name players move to Spain they seek new agents and Mendes wouldn't want to lose his most prize asset Ronaldo.

One thing I want is to play Real Madrid in the Last 16 stage next season, and rape their feckin arses.

Daniel Taylor The Guardian, Wednesday June 4 2008 Article history
The double footballer of the year is keen to play at the Bernabeu.

Cristiano Ronaldo appears to have made up his mind to leave Manchester United and fulfil his "dream" of joining Real Madrid. The Portugal international has informed his agent, Jorge Mendes, that he wants to play in Spain and his decision has already been outlined to Madrid, encouraging them to step up their attempts to prise him from Old Trafford.

Ronaldo is being offered a salary in the region of £150,000 a week after tax and has told his closest associates that the financial rewards, as well as the opportunity to play for a club of Madrid's prestige, are too good to turn down.

The double footballer of the year had stated on Saturday night that he would announce his decision "in two or three days" but journalists arriving at Portugal's Euro 2008 training base yesterday were informed that he would not speak to the media until Friday at the earliest. Instead, one of his associates briefed the Portuguese journalists that Ronaldo, as suspected, was hoping United would relent on their refusal to entertain the idea of negotiating a world-record transfer.

Relations between the two clubs have been severely strained and the latest developments will cause intense dismay to Sir Alex Ferguson, who has been increasingly vocal in his criticism of Madrid. There is also a growing sense of foreboding about Ronaldo's motives, specifically the manner in which he has repeatedly adapted his line in a string of media interviews.

Ferguson had wanted the player to hold a press conference, or, at the very least, put out a statement, committing himself to the club, but Ronaldo has made it clear he plans to do nothing of the kind.

Mendes is believed to be in almost daily contact with Madrid and looking at ways to soften United's resistance. Whether that is possible remains to be seen as United have threatened to report the Spanish champions to Fifa and Ferguson has said he would rather let Ronaldo rot in the reserves than sanction the deal.

Contrary to reports, Ferguson has no plans to fly to Portugal, preferring to go on holiday to France and leave the matter to his chief executive, David Gill.

If that's it, we should 100m + for him. feck it.

If Ron what's to go i'de make him stay another year as someone else suggested, which would give nani chance to improve and any replacement player a year to settle. If he says he wishes to leave, who should we sign??

Every report is saying this, how do they know?

If he comes out and publically states he want to join Real .

He won't. You've been confident about this and slagging people off who dare think otherwise, so they have nothing to worry about. All this anger is bullshit.

If he actually says "I want to leave" ( which STILL at no point he has), then were in the driving seat for negotiations.

We should ask for Ramos+ Casillas + £50 million :D.

I'm not fussed tbh, i believe no matter what happens the club will move forward next year.

If he goes and we get a huge amount of cash for him, then any players we buy will be hugley overpriced becasue the selling club will know that we have money to spend.

There's only one outcome. He will definitely be here next season.

If he comes out and publically states he want to join Real (which he has yet to do) then we're in the same boat that Bayern were with Hargreaves, the summer before last. We have a player on a long-term contract who wants to leave but we don't want to sell.

Which means he has one more season at United and leaves next summer. Two things are absolutely certain. His value will not decrease over the course of a season and Madrid will be just as willing to pay top dollar, in a years time, as they are now. As will all the major European clubs.

If all of this comes to pass it will be a shame but what you gonna do? The club has always been bigger than any individual player and always will be.

Tend to agree with most of this but I'm not even sure he'll go next summer either. Basically Ronaldo is only interested in Real Madrid and United will still want a fee close to £100m so it is then a question of whether Madrid are prepared to pay such a sum. If not, then he stays because he is still on a long contract. Other clubs are not really a factor. Man City could offer £200m and it wouldn't make a difference, just as Barca offered £30m for Beckham, yet he went to Madrid for much less.

Madrid seem to want to do a deal on their terms by getting Ronaldo to throw such a big tantrum that United feel they have to get rid. Well if United keep their nerve then we could easily see Ronaldo at Old Trafford for the next two seasons.

I don't have a problem with Ronaldo wanting to play for Madrid. If he winds down his contract he is most welcome to leave when he has fulfilled the obligations he has agreed to.

I have been a Utd fan since 1966, when I first came to Manchester. I have many friends there and in Liverpool, where, I married. One of my close pals is an insider at OT. He tells me Ron is the most hated among the other players, although they dont make a show of it. He knows it, and is not happy at OT. This attitude of the other players started after his declared wish to play for Real in 2006. It is similar to Drogba's dream of Milan. His attitude unsettles the others, and they feel they would be better off without him.

He is a brilliant player, no doubt, but his attitude on field is sometimes questionable. Just a touch from an opposing player, and he goes to ground. When no free kick or penalty is given , he throws up his arms, ties his boot laces, and lazily gets on to his feet. If he loses a ball, he never tries to win it back. I would put Rooney streets ahead of this twat. Rooney only lacks finish. But given added responsibilities, I am sure Rooney will shine, and we wont feel the loss of Ron. And with a resurgent Tevez, the goals will start flowing. And it is goals we want, dont we? Not pin up boys.

So, cheer up mates. Nobody is bigger than the club.

Not true, perhaps your mate should watch them train there is a fantastic spirit amongst this team. If Ronaldo decides he wants to leave it is nothing to do with his life at United which he enjoys more to do with personal ambition and family pressures.

Any don't think any thing new has actually happened? Nothing new has been said by Ronaldo. Ever needs to chill!

Like they don't, already?

Cant he say anything though? I think he should tell the portuguese that he wants this to be over with, and says what he says to say. How difficult can that be?

Every report is saying this, how do they know?

Err, because his agent is the source of the stories, which he is trying to use to persuade us to either a) pay him more money or b) cash in now rather than risk keeping an unhappy (or injured) player for a season.

'A close friend' quoted in football stories = the agent 90% of the time.

but Ronaldos an egotistical maniac :). he loves it

If he wants to leave, then there is no point keeping him, as long as Real come up with an acceptable offer.

Shame, as he is the most talented footballer I've had the pleasure of seeing playing for United.

Shame for him as well, as he had every chance of becoming one of the biggest legends ever to play for United. Now, he will only become another "galactico" in the Real Madrid road show, and follow the likes of Beckham and Ruud in the line of good United players who thought the grass was greener.

United will continue to prosper, and I am sure Ronaldo will go on to cementing his position as one of the world's greatest players. But, he is forsaking the chance of becoming a club legend in one of the biggest and best football clubs in the world.

What do you reckon would be acceptable?

I'm thinking at least £60m.

£100m is just crazy talk.

He'll probably go for £50m. Possible with some makeshift player thrown in as a sweetener.

£50m would be a rip off. Zidane was, what, 30 when he went to Real for £45m.

And I don't want any of their players.

Nonsense. Think about it.

If Ronaldo is sold, that shite club would make a bundle on him in a very short space of time.

Zidane is the record but he was 29 when they got him.

Ronaldo is 23. The best in the world? maybe

Added to the fact - how madrid have conducted themselves.

They apparently have the money. So make a bid

But let's also clarify something 100million is no less silly money then 60 million. However we're in a position of strength as I don't believe Ronaldo is the type to risk being shunted in the stands. It will hurt him not playing. So we must be strong.

Until we win more european cups, this could happen. Though remember this is all specualtion/rumor. Additional, I suppose its the same for all clubs, most aren't allowed to cheat to the extent they do.

He can't win whatever he says. If he says he's staying or he can't stand Madrid, they'll say he's only holding out for a better contract/more money. There's no point.

Everything you say is correct. That being said, we won't get £100m for Ronaldo.
