Actually, this is a momentous day in United's history. We have faced Calderon and his shabby, devious, contemptible outfit down, and he is the one with his tail beween his legs, looking for excuses having wasted much of the summer on his vainglorious fantasies and dreams. The difference is we have a man called Sir Alex Ferguson managing the club...Calderon was fecked on day one...he just did'nt know it....

Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he will remain at Manchester United for another season.

In the longest running transfer saga of the summer, the Red Devils winger had fluctuated between his desire to remain at Old Trafford and fulfilling his dream of playing for Real Madird.

United had always insisted that the Portugal international was not for sale, but Real have a history of getting what they want.

However, the 23-year-old appears to have brought an end to the endless speculation surrounding his future by stating his intentions to remain in England for the 2008/09 campaign.

"I will remain with Manchester United for at least another year," Ronaldo told Portuguese newspaper Publico.

Dedication
He goes on to praise United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who flew to Portugal in the aftermath of Euro 2008 to hold clear-the-air discussions with his enigmatic playmaker.

"Sir Alex Ferguson heard my arguments, I heard his and, in fact, it was settled that the best for both parties would be for me to stay," he added.

"Therefore, I can confirm that, next season, I will play for Manchester United.

"Before rumours emerge saying that I will play against my will, I want to make this clear - whoever says or writes that is lying.

"I will play for Manchester with all my heart and soul. I will fight and honour that shirt with the same commitment and dedication as always."


Controversy
Ronaldo also accepted full responsibility for failing to stop the constant rumours regarding from spiralling out of control.

"I was responsible for all this controversy," he said.

"I was the one who publicly expressed my desire to go to Real Madrid. I ended up being, even involuntarily, responsible for the poor relationship between the two clubs."


Desire
While United will be pleased to here their prized asset committing himself to the club, Ronaldo went on to admit that he maintains his dream of playing for Real at some stage in the future.

He explained: "I knew Real Madrid were interested in signing me and that they had allegedly made a very high offer to Manchester United.

"My desire was, for some time, that Manchester had accepted my transfer to Madrid.

"Saying otherwise would be to trick people and my own consciousness."

- Takes responsibility for the saga
- Acknowledges that he wants to play for madrid
- States he'll still play for united with all his heart and soul

At least now, in a year or two's time, we can say "thanks for the memories, now feck off", rather than just "feck off"....

So here goes then, to the new season, and lots of goals from ronnie - lets hear it:

Maybe, maybe not. With any luck Calderon will not be RM president next season because if Ronaldo goes next summer, I do not want him ever being succesful in signing him

Don't bank on it. Calderon will go. Schuster might follow. Robhino will do likewise. Bad dressing room. Early CL exit. United do the treble. RM finish third in La Liga (how many CL spots does La Liga get?)

What then is the lure of the Shiteago Bummerboy?

Tad harsh, rich, he made the mistake of publicly saying he wants to play for madrid - who knows some of our other players may be off in a flash if madrid comes knocking...for ronnie its not about the money, he has plenty. Its as many a poster has said time and time again, its a league he grew up watching....

Come on, teveth said he wants to go back to Boca in a few years too...

Despite all that, he could've done better in this saga - i'm dreading the redcafe knifes that'll come out the moment he has a few bad games, saying his heart is not in it at all...

Who knows, the lad may actually come to love manchester in the future and actually stay...

Now if he'd just fecking said that in the first place!!!

I have no issue with Ronaldo going to Madrid. But he has to serve his contract, or run it down to a point at which United are willing to sell. If he isn't prepared to abide by this, he should have signed his 5 year contract last year. What he absolutely shouldn't do is what he's done this summer, drag the bloody thing out and treat the supporters like shit

I'm glad he's begun the process of crawling back to the fans anyway. It's up to us now how we treat him. Personally I won't be giving him any praise, he doesn't deserve it, but they'll be no negative reaction towards him. Not unless I see him giving less than his all on the pitch anyway...

If it really is his 'dream' then I doubt that would stop him wanting to go there.
