According to somebody who PM'd me on another forum, he wasn't asked about Fergie's words at all, he was asked how he dealt with the pressure of the whole saga, to which he replied 'you get used to it'. This fits in with what jojojo said a few pages back but I don't know how they know that. Its more than likely that Marca just made the quote up

Ronaldo unfazed by Fergie words

When asked to comment on Ferguson’s declaration, Ronaldo told Marca: “I am used to facing the pressure.”

Actually I think that comment was made before SAF spoke.

It's from an "interview" as he was leaving his physio's office. Ron's responses when cornered ran something along the lines of - I'm not talking about it. I can't talk about it.

The reporter followed up with, "Everyone else is talking about it. There must be a lot of pressure on you." At which point Ron said something like, "I'm used to being under pressure."

I'll take a crack at putting the translation of the summary into English!
:D

Publico are promising the full interview, with an English version tomorrow. To put this into context this probably is as an actual interview. Publico is an actual newspaper.

Now - back to the summary:
The dream of playing for Real remains.

Cristiano Ronaldo announced in an interview with Publico that he's staying with Manchester United
06.08.2008 - 19h32
Will Cristiano Ronaldo go to Real Madrid or stay with Manchester United?
It's been the most popular sports story for months in the Portuguese press, British and Spanish and it's time for the Portuguese international's silence to end. Cristiano Ronaldo, in an exclusive interview with Publico, announced that he's going to remain at the English club, with whom he has a contract until 2012. The forward explains the reasons why he'll continue to play for at least another year at Old Trafford, praises the coach Alex Ferguson, but does not hide that his dream of playing in Madrid is real.

Whats the fuss about anyway. He already said he's staying.

He's still a cnut though

Question: Sir Alex Ferguson said yesterday that the "case is closed" and you will remain in Manchester. Is this the truth?

Answer: Ferguson heard my points, and I heard his, and the outcome is that it'd be best for all parts if I continued. So, because of that, I can confirm that I will play for Manchester United this season. Before other rumors come up, I want to clearly state that they are all lies. I'm going to fight for United with everything I've got. I'll fight to represent any jersey I wear.

Question: How do you think Real Madrid will feel with you now saying you're staying?

Answer: I want to make it clear that the responsibility lies with me on this matter. They have no fault here, and it was me who publically announced I wanted to play for Real Madrid. In the end I was, involuntarily, the reason things happened between the two clubs.

Question: Your words after the Champions League final, and again after the Euros, displayed a clear desire to leave Manchester United. In the end, what was your wish?

Answer: I knew that Real Madrid were interested in signing me and, allegedly, offered a sum much higher than Manchester United. My dream, for quite some time, has been that Manchester United would sell me to Real Madrid. Saying otherwise would be a lie, and disrespectful to my fans and my own conscience.

From Setanta

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has finally drawn a line under a summer of speculation by revealing he is staying at Old Trafford.

The Real Madrid target has given an exclusive interview with Publico which will be published in full on Thursday.

According to the Portguese publication, he has stressed will wear the red shirt for at least another season, even if he fails to hide his long-standing desire to play at the Bernabeu.

Although the saga is likely to be revisited next year, it at least ends any threat of last season's 42-goal hero going on strike or refusing to face Sir Alex Ferguson.

Indeed, the United boss, who insists he only has the player's best interests at heart, is apparently praised by Ronaldo during the interview.

Ferguson has won his battle with Real despite the immense confidence from Madrid that they would win the day and land the Portugal ace before the transfer deadline at the end of the month.

I've just done a translation of the whole thing. most illuminating, to say the least;

Cristiano Ronaldo announces in interview to PUBLICO that he stays with Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo goes for Real Madrid or stays with Manchester United? This was the sporting subject more spoken of during the past months in the Spanish, British, and Portuguese press, but in the last hour the Portuguese international brought the silence he has maintained to an end. Cristiano Ronaldo, in an exclusive interview to PUBLICO, announced that he is going to remain at the English club, with whom has contract until 2012. He went as far as to explain the motives that mean he is going to continue playing, for at least one more year, at Old Trafford, and he praises the coach Alex Ferguson, but does not conceal that the dream of playing in Madrid is real.

Excerpt of the interview of Bruno Prata with Cristiano Ronaldo;

'Alex Ferguson confirmed the day before yesterday that "the matter is closed" and that, definitely, you will play at Manchester in the forseeable future. Is this the truth?'

'Ferguson heard my arguments, I heard his, and, in fact, it was established between us that the best course for both parties would be that I continue. By that, I can confirm that, in the forseeable future I will continue to play in Manchester. And in the recent past, annoying rumours and speculation have arisen as to whether I go or stay, so I am now going to make something clear : those who say or write such things are lying. I go to play for Manchester United wholeheartedly. I am going to fight for and honour that shirt with the endeavor and the dedication I always give.'

'And how will the directors and the managers of Real Madrid feel upon hearing that you will remain with Manchester United?'

'I am going to assume that I was mainly responsible for all these polémics. They were not at fault because I was the one that manifested publicly that I would be happy to go to Real Madrid. I ended up also by being, even though involuntarily, the one responsible for the frictions that were noted between the two clubs.'

'Your statements, soon after the end of the Champions League, but also after the European Championship, caused the accusation that you had a huge desire to leave Manchester United in exchange for Real Madrid. After all, what was your will?

'I knew that Real Madrid were interested in hiring me and that, allegedly, would have offered me a much more elevated earnings proposal than Manchester United . My hope was, for some time, that Manchester United would accept that I transfer to Madrid. Anyone saying to the contrary would be misleading people and misrepresenting my own conscience.

I'm glad he admits he was the cause of everything, hopefully it will shut up those fans who were burying their heads in the sand and blaming the evil puppet master Calderon for everything.

Hmm interesting. That's the closest thing to an apology we're going to get from that cnut I guess.

Just checked the Ronometer......and....it exploded!

We should all apologize to Madrid and Caledron

Very interesting that the cnut-callers will always persuade themselves that they are right. I cannot see how Ronaldo might have been lured into thinking he could get a significantly elevated earnings package unless he'd been approached with one in the first place? I quote 'I knew that RM were interested in hiring me'.

I don't know how many of us would fail to take interest if a rival employer sidled up to us in the street and said 'ere, guv - fancy 'avin yer salary doubled fer the same job?'

I'm bloody sure I'd listen. Like I've stated ad nauseam throughout this saga, modern footballers are professionals.

Personally I prefer to focus on his commitment to fighting for and honouring the shirt whilst he remains a United player.

on a good note this has ended...on a bad note..berbatov has said he'd rather go to barcelona than united

It is with great sadness that Real Madrid have to inform our supporters Senior Calderon was found dead in the mens restroom.....his head was stuck in the toilet bowl.....

Actually, this is a momentous day in United's history. We have faced Calderon and his shabby, devious, contemptible outfit down, and he is the one with his tail beween his legs, looking for excuses having wasted much of the summer on his vainglorious fantasies and dreams. 'Manchester United should feel proud that their star player dreams of playing for Real Madrid'. !!! Once we thrash them in the CL (Oh joy to draw them!) the boot will be well and truly on the other foot.

United have stood rock solid in the face of a barrage of stinking ordure emanating from that glorified public convenience known as the Santiago Bernabeu. In future Real Madrid, and whoever is leading them (and it certainly wont be Calderon for much longer) will think very long and hard indeed before publicly courting a Manchester United player.

Champions of Europe? We are now!

Doesn't change the fact that we have a player playing for us who wishes he wasn't and would rather be somewhere else and who is clearly motivated, partially at least, by the money on offer at Real.

A small part of me wishes we had just sold him and moved on because I can never feel quite the same about him or sing about him again.

He says he will play for United with all his heart and soul. And all this talk about him playing for United against his will is rubbish.
