Some actual Ron news, kind of, from his physio, talking about the injury but again repeating the statement that United know and have agreed the timetable he's currently on.

The full thing's on Mendes' site:
http://www.gestifute.com/gestifute/noticia.php?noticia_id=723
I guess they may do an English translation later.

Basically, it says the recovery is on plan. That as Ron won't take days off from the exercises, they decided to get out of Lisbon for a few days so he could walk around outdoors (the phrase "without someone sticking a camera in his face" is missing) and apparently, he's almost off the crutches now.

He's due to see the surgeon this week and then they'll plan the next phase with United.

The only other items of note in the Iberian press were reports on SAF's "he's a United player" press conference and Calderon's "probably no other signings" words. Marca's men in Manchester say SAF gave them a friendly wave as he left :D

From Ron himself - nada. Which is what I'd expect from him until he's back in Manchester (or Madrid!) and the dust has settled. For all the quotations marks you may have seen in the last few weeks, he's said nothing to the press since he saw SAF in Lisbon (apart from that ESPN Deportes interview that probably happened in LA).

Today's version of, "no comment," was in reply to a Portuguese reporter saying that, "But everyone else is talking about it, how are you handling the pressure?" - Ron's answer apparently, "You get used to it."

Allegedly he's taking his mum to a Julio Iglesias concert tonight.
Read between the lines on that one.

Julio Iglesias was the most popular Latin singer of the '70s and '80s, selling over 100 million albums around the world. Iglesias was a smooth, romantic crooner and his appeal translated to many different countries in many different languages. Initially, Iglesias planned to be a lawyer. As he studied, he was a goalkeeper for the Real Madrid football team. His career as an athlete was ended after an automobile accident in the mid-'60s. While he was recovering, Iglesias started playing guitar and writing songs. Before he began a musical career, he finished his law studies at Cambridge University. In 1968, he was a contestant at the 1968 Spanish Song Festival at Benidorm, singing his original song "La Vida Sigue Igual." Iglesias won the first prize at the contest, which led to a record contract with Discos Columbia, an independent record label.

never knew that

CARLOS TEVEZ is convinced he would be a model pro — if he looked more like pin-up pal Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Argentine hardman has had no problems scoring on the pitch since joining Manchester United. But the striker admits he needs to sharpen up his image off it to be seen as a true superstar like Ronaldo.
While David Beckham rakes in £5million a year to squeeze his Golden Balls into a pair of Armani pants, we have jokingly placed Tevez’s head on Becks’ body to show what he would look like as a glamour model.
Tevez, 24, said: “I don’t have the same marketable image as a Ronaldo or a Lionel Messi. If I tried to work on my image, it would change a lot of things. But I’m not like that. “I pack all my effort in on the pitch, throwing myself on the floor for each ball, putting my life into each game.
“I give everything to win each match and leave it there.
“Cristiano is intelligent and knows how to handle the Press. To be seen as the best in the world, you need to feed other things. That’s for sure.
“I have a good relationship with Cristiano. At the moment, he’s the best player in the world — one of those guys who wins games when you need him to. But my personality impedes me from appearing in the best magazines.”

Meanwhile, Old Trafford chief Alex Ferguson has copped a blast from no-nonsense Neil Warnock.

The Crystal Palace boss has branded Fergie and Tottenham supremo Daniel Levy hypocrites for moaning about rivals tapping up their stars.
Ferguson has repeatedly slammed Real Madrid’s open pursuit of Ronaldo this summer.

And Levy furiously claimed Liverpool’s pursuit of Robbie Keane and United’s interest in Dimitar Berbatov broke FIFA rules on player approaches.
Yet Warnock, who lost youngster John Bostock to White Hart Lane for just £700,000 last month, reckons ALL top clubs are guilty of poaching talent.
And he has urged the FA to draft new laws to protect smaller clubs from losing their bright young stars for low fees.
He fumed: “It makes me laugh when you see people from big clubs such as Sir Alex and Daniel Levy complaining about alleged tapping- up and underhand behaviour. It brings a right smile to my face.
“I know for a fact there’s a 14- year-old in our academy who has already been tapped up by agents and big clubs. I’m sure it’s also happening with 11 and 12-year-olds, so it’s imperative for the laws to change.
“Officially, we can’t talk to players about professional contracts until they are 16.
“But, in reality, most of the deals with other clubs are sealed well before then.
“If the FA think the big clubs just come along to chat with the guy on his 16th birthday, they’re living in Cloud Cuckoo Land.”

Inconceivable.
Which is why I've said from the beginning, all this talk will never end until the day he leaves the club.

As if that is happening. WTF! Why won't Ronaldo just open his mouth, even Fabregas said he was staying at Arsenal ffs.

fab wants to stay for now, ronaldo doesn't want to stay probably, but will be forced to so he figures he'll just not say anything since it's already been settled.

he'll just focus on getting better and doing it on the pitch, but off it, he'll let the situation brew until we do sell him next summer or the summer after.

Not funny and not necessary for this thread.
If that turns you on you have my sympathy. Start up a gay thread in the General. You'll be more at home there.
With 25,000 views a day for this thread that sick pic will be popping up on many folks work computers...take it down please.

How do you check who is the top poster in this thread? I know its BahamaRed but I want stats.

I've just had a look and, apart from my horror at discovering I'm in second place behind BR, I notice Jason has stopped posting.

Where are you jason? This thread is poorer without you.

Good news, but this is in the wrong thread. It'll help the thread to 50,000,000 posts though.

Brazil are playing their first game in the Olympics tomorrow against Belgium (Ronaldhino, Anderson), some time between 10am and 12 (uk time)

China and South Korea are also playing later on on Thursday (around 1pm-ish). That means DONG, and Park if he's ready

But surely all these articles were written BEFORE the SAF press conference. The Telegraph today is saying what SAF said yesterday - 'it's all over'.

It's over. The sites are being a bit naughty not updating the stories. Lets celebrate!

And today's 'Sun';

ALEX FERGUSON last night defiantly crushed Cristiano Ronaldo’s dream of moving to Real Madrid, insisting: “He is staying with us.”
The Old Trafford boss said: “He is a Manchester United player. He is going to be playing here next season. Believe me, it is all over.”

It is a blow for Real, who have spent the summer trying to lure Ron to the Bernabeu. But it was joyous news for Sun readers, who can now safely include Ronaldo in their Dream Teams after he earned 457 points last season!

United have told Ronaldo, 23, they want him back by next Monday at the very latest. A source close to the winger said: “Cristiano was convinced he would be able to convince United to sell him — but he now realises that is not going to happen. “He’s heard what Ferguson said and he knows he’ll be there for the next year at least. “He’s feeling really low about it — he had his heart set on a move.”

However, perhaps the key factor for keeping Ron a Red was he could not bear the thought of missing out all those points in SunSport’s £1million Dream Team!
