Cristiano Ronaldo 'never coming back' to Man United as Real Madrid saga continues

Cristiano Ronaldo is due back in Manchester this week for rehabilitation work on his ankle, though reports across this morning's media suggest a resolution to the player's proposed transfer to Real Madrid is still to be found.

Real Madrid's relentless pursuit of Ronaldo and the player's unwillingness to publicly commit himself to United mean an assessment of his fitness after surgery on a troublesome ankle will almost be secondary to a face-to-face meeting with Sir Alex Ferguson and discussions over his future.

Conflicting stories in today's newspapers, however, even question whether such a meeting will take place.

The Mirror quote unnamed sources close to the player saying that Ronaldo is reluctant to return to Manchester at all, and will try and force United's hand by staying away from Old Trafford as long as possible.

Ramon Calderon, the Real president who has repeatedly inflamed the situation between the two clubs over the course of the summer with deliberately placed comments in the Spanish media, stayed behind in England after the club's pre-season tournament at the Emirates Stadium hoping to speak with United.

That meeting did not materialise, however, reports suggest that what the Mirror describe as "cracks in United's resolve" are starting to appear.

The weakening, in private, of United's hard line stance that Ronaldo is not for sale has prompted his unwillingness to face Ferguson in Manchester, hopeful that a £70 million deal can now be struck between the two clubs.

Reports elsewhere suggest that a deal has been done in principle but on the understanding that the move will be delayed until next summer, allowing United to get another season out of Ronaldo while he is in his prime and still cash in on his value in a year's time.

A Sun exclusive suggests that United's owners, the Glazer family, are ready to hand Ronaldo a get-out clause that will allow for his release in 2009, agreeing with the player that he is free to join Real for a fee of around £65 million at that time.

The paper quote another unnamed United insider who claims that Ferguson remains one of only a couple of people at the club who see value in trying to forced Ronaldo to stay against his wishes.

The compromise of delaying a transfer is designed to appease Ferguson and get him to concede defeat in his efforts to hang on to the player.

Ferguson has yet to be convinced, but with Real unlikely to drop their interest having been rebuffed in attempts to buy world player of the year, Kaka, the longer the situation remains unresolved the more likely he is to acquiesce to the arrangement.

Ferguson spoke to the player face-to-face in Lisbon prior to United's pre-season trip to South Africa and left content that Ronaldo would be a United player next season.

However, reports of Ronaldo's change of heart will only at fuel to the growing animosity aimed at Real.

Ronaldo's injury means he will not play before the transfer deadline at the end of August.

I have supported this wonderful club since the mid sixties, and IF this is true, I cannot remember another player in all that time that has shown such disrespect towards us. Again stressing IF its true, quite frankly feck him, feck his "dream" and feck the thieving Franco's let him rot, we can't allow Madrid to get away with this, if they do no latin player on our books will be safe, Anderson, Tevez, and any future stars that catch thier eye will be considered fair game.

As many of you know, I have said I want CR7 back at the club, and that I had no doubt within weeks (if not - 1 game) we'd be singing his praises.

Marca, AS, and our tabloids print MASSIVE amounts of shit all the time. So everything they say should be taken with a ton of salt.

If however, Ronaldo refuses to come back to Manchester (I thought he was due back today but nothing has been said - he should be at OT tomorrow i would hope), then in that case, feck the £65 million, he can be a bench warmer for the reserves. He can apply his trade there.

I'm sure its all media bollocks though.

 Here we go, again, 'unamed sources', Marca, AS, Sun 'exclusive', sources 'close to' nudge nudge, wink wink, what a feckin' scream.

I think the club should take action against this type of crap.

FIFA have done feck all, and our own FA has stood by and watch (with glee no doubt perhaps)

Lets send the reserve side to the Club Championship

i was watching ssn earlier and they said Ronaldo wouldn't be back until thursday........so obviously if that's true he won't be there against Juventus

I'm sure I read somewhere that he has an oppointment with a doctor today, and then he's flying back. More media bollocks perhaps

Ronaldo expected back this week

CRISTIANO Ronaldo should be given the green light to step up his recovery programme this week.

While talk of a showdown between Ronaldo and Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson seems to have dominated certain agendas, particularly in Spain, the Reds are more concerned about the 23-year-old's recent ankle operation.

Reports in Spain a fortnight ago suggested today would be the day Ronaldo told Ferguson face-to-face of his desire to leave for Real Madrid, but he is not expected to fly back until later this week.

He is now due to visit a specialist in Amsterdam to discover how successful his surgery has been.

Only after that is Ronaldo set to report in at Carrington, meaning it will be the end of the week at the earliest before he can speak with Ferguson.

Impression

And given the United boss is under the impression both men discussed what they had to during a meeting following Portugal's exit from Euro 2008, he is not expecting any further dialogue about Ronaldo's future.

The Reds - and Ferguson in particular - have made their position perfectly clear on the matter. And that is that Ronaldo, after just one season of a five-year contract, is going nowhere, no matter what price is placed on his head by officials at the Bernabeu.

It is a situation Real president Ramon Calderon may find difficult to stomach but could be forced to accept given his repeated recent protestations that his club do not want to get involved in luring Ronaldo away from Old Trafford and will only act once Old Trafford officials signal their willingness to do a deal.

Such statements have been greeted with mirth at United given the blame being placed at Calderon's door for the discussion over Ronaldo's future, which began almost as soon as the player got his hands on the Champions League trophy in Moscow last May.

Although United have a healthy disregard for reports that come out of Spain, claiming most, including those that stated Ronaldo would return today, have been proved false, they are aware most of them originate from Real.

The recent article is clearly bollocks. I dislike him for what he's done before, but not that stupid quotes from his friends

Is the correct answer.

Cunning plan by the Spanish press. Set a day he is supposed to come back when in fact he isn't and when he doesn't show say he's on strike. The English rags buy into it for headlines, although I have been particularly disgusted that the Telegraph have basically reported this with whole story by rehashing Marca articles. They have certainly ensured I'll never buy the paper again.

media bollocks. made up quotes

Why are so many people taking these Marca stories seriously? It's clearly a load of rubbish, they have the same story, with about 6 different sources quoting Marca, yet the quotes and stories are all different.

If you believe this from Marca, you probably fell for Ronaldo's unveiling in July which they promised as well.

I know really its a small thing, but its beginning to piss me off

We are not THE REDS! Sir Alex Ferguson isn't the manager of THE REDS. Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't play for THE REDS. We're not MANCHESTER we're Manchester United, The Red Devils and on occasion Man Utd. I stop reading these articles the minute they print anything else. Shite from start to finish...

On another note.

He's going nowhere, was going nowhere and he knows it. Allegedly he didn't want to play for us last year or the year before. So if that's still the case I couldn't care less. Hope the lad scores 50 this year just to piss all the naysayers off even more.

I got worried until I saw the story came from Marca

The same Marca who said Kaka was joining them x 50 stories, that we had agreed a fee of 68 million for Ronaldo, that he was going to be signed by 7th july, then 17th july, then 27th, that SAF had told Ronaldo he can leave, that SAF told Ronaldo can leave but just not to Madrid, that he had gone on strike, that Wenger had agreed terms with Madrid, that Wenger told friends 'Real Madrid is my new challenge' blah blah. Bearing in mind also, Ronaldo is with soembody from the club, I doubt he will be refusing to come back in front of them

SAF also made his opinion of AS and Marca clear judging by his quotes earlier this summer.

Ronaldo will be back this week but I reckon SAF told Ronaldo to not say when and SAF himself thre a few red herrings in, just to avoid the media finding out when it really was and going mad over it. In the same way, when he went to see Ronaldo in Lisbon, there were 'leaks' that he refused to go and see him

I just caught something on the radio about Ronaldo refusing to come back to Old Trafford?

Honest, it was on the radio a few minutes ago, didn't hear the whole thing.

So you mean all those years ago when I learned the words to:

Kick 'em all, kick 'em all
Come on you reds
- kick 'em all
If you see any blue shit
- well, fecking well boot it
Come on you reds
- kick 'em all

I misheard the lyrics?

Next you'll be telling me Elvis didn't do a song called, "Are you loathsome tonight."

According to the now very credible SSN, he's at a Julio Inglesias concert tonight. Inglesias, of course, was at Real Madrid s a young goalkeeper...:nervous:

They also said his Amsterdam appointment is on Thursday.

Looks like we're back to this....R-Day approaches.....
