He said that two weeks ago too.

anyway, Did anybody watch the interview? Most likely made up or lost in translation(from scottish to english)

It would have been great if 1 of them dickhead reporters would have asked about Berbatov!! KMT

the radio/media will try to make out we'd possibly sell next year (shit stirring cnuts) but from what it showed on ssn - Ronaldos staying like we knew he would. Happy days

He was absolutely resolute in what he said and he also looked more then happy I have to say.

Thanks for all the good wishes guys.
I think this thread will still be going when I'm 64.
Can't believe we're no closer than post #1 to having this sorted.

Real hint at Ronaldo defeat

Madrid chief admits Dutchman could be only signing

Last updated: 5th August 2008

Calderon: Ready to concede defeat
Ramon Calderon has dropped a huge hint that he has accepted defeat in Real Madrid's pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo, by stating his belief Rafael van der Vaart could be their only signing of the summer.

Madrid's president was introducing the Dutchman to the crowd of fans who had gathered inside the Bernabeu, when he revealed this would likely be the only major presentation in the Spanish capital this month.
Manchester United have said that they do not expect the Portuguese star to leave them and now Calderon has publicly stated that he also thinks this is the case.
"Van der Vaart is the first signing and probably the only one," said Calderon.
Madrid have made no secret of their desire to sign Ronaldo but while the Spanish press continue to speculate over his future on a daily basis, it would appear his chances of moving to Spain are shortening by the day.
United are loath to lose their prize asset and while it has been suggested they may contemplate a deal next summer, Sir Alex Ferguson is adamant he will have the player at his disposal this season.

Handsome chap is that Calderon.

Hopefully Ronaldo will say something when he comes out of the Doctors office

He said he didn't want to talk about the Ronaldo saga... and then began saying something along the lines of:

'It's over now. He's still a United player. He'll be a United player next season, believe me".

Thanks for all the good wishes guys.

Real hint at Ronaldo defeat

Madrid chief admits Dutchman could be only signing

Last updated: 5th August 2008

Calderon: Ready to join dole queue;
Ramon Calderon has dropped a huge hint that he has accepted defeat in Real Madrid's pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo, by applying for the Madrid Job-seekers allowance. It's his belief that his weekly cheque for 50 euros could be his only earnings of the summer.

Madrid's president was introducing the Dutchman to the crowd of fans who had gathered inside the Bernabeu, when he revealed this would likely be the last major presentation in the Spanish capital.

Manchester United have said that they do not expect the Portuguese star to leave them and now Calderon has publicly stated that he also thinks he is on the dole.
"Van der Vaart is my last signing and probably before the dole," said Calderon.
Madrid have made no secret of their desire to sack Calderon but while the Spanish press continue to speculate over his future on a daily basis, it would appear his chances of being given the dole in Spain are shortening by the day.
United are loath to lose their prize asset and while it has been suggested they may contemplate a deal next summer, Sir Alex Ferguson is adamant he will have achieved Calderon's disposal this season.

Broken man is that Calderon

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson insists the transfer saga surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo is over and he will stay at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo's future at United has been the subject of constant speculation all summer with the Portuguese refusing to commit himself to the club.

Real Madrid have been waiting in the wings to swoop for Ronaldo with the Spanish giants not hiding their liking for the dazzling winger.

Reports in Spain have claimed Ronaldo would inform Ferguson he wanted to leave Old Trafford for Madrid when he returns to the club later this week to undergo treatment on his ankle injury.

Throughout the summer, Ferguson has remained adamant that last season's top scorer would not be leaving the club and the wily Scot insists the whole saga is now finished.

"The matter is closed now," said Ferguson on Sky Sports News.

"He is a Manchester United player, it's finished.

"He is going to play here believe me."

Ferguson also revealed he is no closer to bringing in a new assistant manager as a replacement for Carlos Queiroz.

Queiroz left United to take up the manager's role with his native Portugal leaving Ferguson to bring in a new No.2.
Assistant
Ferguson says the club will not be rushed into getting a new assistant, but is hopeful of having the new man in by September.

"No news [on a new assistant] we take our time with that," added Ferguson.

"We hope to have someone in by the end of September but we never rush these things. It is hard to replace good men.

"We have good coaches here, I have no problems with that aspect of it.

"I am just looking for a particular type of person to assist me in certain ways."

------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's all he said on the subject. No talk of next year blah blah like the media will probably speculate.

Link for the report?

Calderon:
"Obviously we want Ronaldo because of the quality which he has. But there is a contract problem which Manchester and the player have to resolve, not us," Calderon said last week. "Real Madrid is a spectator in this comedy."

In his dreams. He's the star of this comedy. I'll be  long after the credits for the episode in which he gets the sack have stopped rolling.

He said a few weeks ago Ronaldo was staying. That didn't stop the stories. This won't either.

Indeed and I'm not sure how credible the above quotes are. I thought we all accepted Sky and BBC only write bollocks?

I share your scepticism about the BBC and SSN, bit in this case the quotes above are spot on. I saw the press conference with Ferguson on SSN.

His lips, at least, moved, even if Ronaldo's are yet to do so.

If you were Fergie, what would you do?

- Sell him now, knowing his value will only be going down
- Sell him next year, even though his contribution this year will not be on par with the last couple of years
- Bench him

Option one would be the most reasonable, especially if we could get top pound for him. However, it would set a bad precedent, it would mean Real wins and it would mean they will play the same game every year we have a genuine great player.

Option two is more of a face-saving exercise. Ronaldo will sulk all year, never produce the brilliance and will be sold at a discount 12 months from now, wondering what was the point of that at all.

Or the boy could rot in the stands, which will mean we would have to write down one of our biggest assets, and Ronaldo would have to write down his career.

Some tough choices lay ahead.

Or is that Major 'Ronnie' Ferguson, currently holed up in a small town in northern Portugal

You make some pretty big assumptions there including:

a) Ronaldo's value will go down
b) Ronaldo's contribution to the team will be less than it was before
c) If we do face Real Madrid down, they won't do the exact same thing the next time they want one of our players

Not sure that any of these assumptions is necessarily true
