with sources in Spain suggesting there has been a considerable softening in the English club's previously stubborn stance.

I can't see that being true somehow
and anyway Ronaldo 's advisors have denied the AS article

I'm sure Ronaldo will force it, Sir Alex will sanction it, and Gill will push it through...NOT

Cristiano Ronaldo set to force £68m move from Manchester United to Real Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo will demand to be allowed to move to Real Madrid when he returns to Old Trafford on Tuesday after the Spanish champions publicly reiterated their desire to sign the Portuguese winger.

After weeks of speculation, Ronaldo will attempt to force Manchester United's hand by meeting Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager, and David Gill, the chief executive, to insist he be allowed to move to the Bernabeu.
Ronaldo was in Lisbon but is due to fly to Amsterdam to meet the surgeon who operated on his ankle, before flying to Manchester on Tuesday. In his absence, United beat Espanyol 1-0 in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's testimonial.
Bernd Schuster, the Madrid coach, confirmed that Real are continuing to work on a deal, with sources in Spain suggesting there has been a considerable softening in the English club's previously stubborn stance.
"We don't have any doubts that the club is working hard to get a solution to this matter," Schuster said.
"We'll have to see what's going to happen. We always knew that it was going to be a complicated matter. It will obviously not be easy for him to come to Madrid but put the question to any football coach and all of them would say they'd love to have a player like Ronaldo."
Ronaldo has told Madrid about his intentions in an attempt to appease their frustration at his lack of agitation for a move away from Old Trafford. Real will offer £68 million but need him to force United into the sale.
Real were finalising their signing of Dutch midfielder Rafael van der Vaart from Hamburg – a move that does not affect their pursuit of Ronaldo.
However, if Ronaldo succeeds in getting United to sell him, it would allow Real to sanction the £30 million sale of Robinho to Chelsea, the terms of which have been agreed in principle. United would reinvest the money from any deal in pushing through their attempts to sign Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham.
United are believed to be negotiating with Spurs, trying to find the middle ground between their £24 million bid and Tottenham's £30 million valuation.

a nothing story based on the as bollocks

All the talk from Scolari about the "train only passing by once" which he said to Ronaldo. If a train only passes by once then it has either derailed, been taken out of service, or has crashed. All trains pass by regularly.
Unreal Madrid.

"we don't talk about players that aren't ours"

and yet how many times did Schuster mention Ronaldo in that article posted earlier? about ten times.

Schuster is a prick as well as Calderdon.

I hope Barca rape Madird at the Bernabeu!

When Zidane moved from Juventus their chairman made a comment along the lines that in the end they got fed up of saying no.

The Spanish press is quoting the: "It is very difficult to say where people are going to be in two weeks' time, let alone two years," press conference comment from Ferguson, as a sign that he's tired of fighting.

It's the usual - reading the tealeaves - kind of report. But there's still not much sign of any real insider knowledge in these stories.

I remember that.

They obviously think the same will work for Ronaldo but they can think again. Juventus may have caved in but we won't

Ferguson tired of fighting,???? Calderon and Schuster will both be out of a job and SAF will still be United manager. They should call Real Madrid "FIFA Madrid" because that is where they get their allowance to continue this blatantly obvious tapping up of our players. It is a disgrace for world football and that clown(who is a member of FIFA Madrid) Blatter should be kicked out of football the corrupt asshole.

A message for unReal Madrid:

You may have done this trick before when signing other players from certain teams but now you are trying to prise a player away from the best club in the world, at the end of August(because you do not understand the word "NO") you will realise that you have made a mistake, and shown yourself up as second fiddle so get lost LOSER.

Schuster: "I think the club are working hard to get a solution"

this is what they meant when they said: "it has nothing to do with Real Madrid. We are just spectators (or whatever it was) this is a matter between Ronaldo and his club.

i hope we get real madrid in the champions league in the second leg so that fergie can take a shit on the madrid pitch.

The first part of that about tuesday being d-day etc was basically the as story and the rest is meshed crap. is a waste of time

Madrid logic isn't logical at all.

Its more logical than Scouse logic though I suppose.

Im really sick of this whole saga now I thought it was all over about a week ago. Lets hope Ronaldo does not open up his mouth setting the whole thing into full swing again. The season is only around two weeks away and Fergie said he is going nowhere.

Madrid To Bid £60m For Ronaldo

The longest running transfer saga of the summer may be nearing an end with the News of the World reporting that Real Madrid are preparing to offer Manchester United £60 million for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The proposed transfer of the Portuguese winger has filled the newspapers for the majority of the summer. Whilst Real have long been admirers of Manchester United’s number 7, the club have so far insisted that their player is not for sale.

Ronaldo himself has remained ambiguous on the situation although the latest speculation has suggested that the player will shortly inform the club he wants to leave for Madrid.

However, according to the News of the World, Real’s coach Bernd Schuster has now admitted that Madrid are still hoping to sign Ronaldo. He said: “The club are working hard to get a solution. We knew it was going to be very complicated.”

The paper reports that Madrid will offer United £60 million for the winger, despite the club having previously declared that their player is not for sale.

Despite this, and possibly encouraged by the positive noises coming from the player himself, Real are evidently hoping they can force a deal through though, despite United not wanting to sell. As Schuster himself acknowledged: “It’s not going to be easy for Ronaldo to come to Madrid but we will have to see.”

The news is likely to frustrate United manager Alex Ferguson who has spent the summer insisting Ronaldo will be a United player next season.

Yet it appears that Real Madrid are determined to get their man, a fact Schuster found hard to deny. He confirmed: “Do I still want to sign Ronaldo? What a question. Of course I do. If you ask any coach that question then every single one of them would want Ronaldo. He is a great player. One of the best.”

The news comes despite Madrid reportedly being on the verge of signing Hamburg’s Dutch midfielder Rafael van der Vaart. The Dutchman has largely been viewed as a replacement for Ronaldo, but it is entirely possible Madrid may end up with both players.

As for Ronaldo, he has been enjoying an extended holiday following his exploits at Euro 2008 and a subsequent surgery to correct an ankle injury. However, he is due to return to Manchester United this week where his future may finally be resolved.

I thought Calderon & co. viewed this saga as a problem between the player and United rather than their attempts to unsettle him

Having been a major factor in last seasons success he needs to join the boys for Wednesdays trophy celebrations - even on crutches.

I reckon the game is an ideal opportunity for him to start building bridges with a carefully worded speech in front of the fans.

I doubt that will happen. He's spewed too much bullshit over the last couple of months, that i can't actually see what he would say to the fans given the chance.

Although i do reckon he should attend. You can't hide 42 goals under the curtain.

Not building bridges more like mending them

Fair enough, but if you listen to the local fans, and radio talk shows they are mostly broken.

Most supporters line of thinking now has become one of supporting SAF on the matter, and accepting his judgement.

Fans affection for him is well and truly over.
