So I reckon you'd have to AND NotMarca with LegitPress.
And, you're right, we need to latch the Marca signal to damp the oscillations as it gets retranslated.

This only applies if there is such a thing as LegitPress which is doutbtful but may be accurate enough to use in the next generation Bullshit-o-meter, though it would need to be fitted with a "do not use for gambling" warning.

Whilst this would be a neat solution, as you yourself note, it relies on the idea that there is a 'LegitPress' to utilise.

Trying to establish and verify such an entity, if it were to exist, (doubtful) would, IMO, require more processing power than the apparently primitive variant I suggested - I predict my proposal would be about 15% more reliable as well, due to Legit-variance.

quick question.

why don't players just commute from wherever they want to live within reason.

for instance. if ronnie hates manchester so much,

he can live in lisbon and charter (or buy if he has the cash) a g550 for training and match days (ffs, they don't even train everyday).

lisbon to manchester would be under 3 hrs via gulfstream.

i mean he could even make that part of his contract negotaitions. that the club provide partial payment for his chartered g550.

that way he can live and be with his family in portugal, and play for united.

michael owen lives in north wales and flies by helicopter every day to newcastle

what's funny about it?

seriously? if there is no jet lag, and the commute is under 2.5 hrs. i don't see the problem. i mean, there are quite a number of people, esp in the US who have to drive 2 hrs one way to get to work. and work longer hours everyday than footballers.

a gulfstream is quick and painless. are you laughing because of the cost?

these days footballers at that level are like ceo's. private flights are a business expense.

Im sorry but the environmentally concerned part of me has to just say:

No no no.

Aw...
Now this takes me back in time to a certain #7 and his decision to build Beckingham Palace at helicopter commuting distance from Carrington. Let's just say the plan didn't really work out that well.

As for Ron, I think you'd have to arrange for United to play in La Liga to provide a wholly satisfactory solution. :D

And yes, he does know how to rent private planes (as does Evra and some of the other foreign lads). Ron sometimes goes back to Portugal (usually Lisbon) and has done mini trips to places like Rome and Mallorca. But they usually do it when they've got two days off and that's not that often during a good season.

Brilliant.

How do you manage to get on with the game and not fecking up the guy that did such a thing to you? Thats crazy.

You score the goal that wins the Premier League title after goading him into a pointless tackle :devil::devil::devil::devil:

Miscellaneous and general roundup from the Portuguese and Spanish press followed by some chat from Calderon.

Ron's back in Lisbon and he's still using crutches but is hoping to get rid of them soon. It's reported that he's got a scan in Amsterdam on Monday, then back to Manchester.

One of the Portuguese papers says he visited the dentist yesterday and was there long enough that the police needed to do a bit of crowd control to handle the autograph hunters who assembled outside. Price of fame, eh.

The Spanish press are running Giggs' comments with headlines roughly along the lines of - Giggs brands Ronaldo as a foreign mercenary.

While the British press have now picked up on Madrid's board meeting as meaning that Madrid are giving up, Calderon isn't ready to throw in the towel. AS interviewed him, it's too long and boring to translate so I'll selectively quote the bits of interest.

Summary - it's between Ronaldo and his club, we're just spectators, not. - You really don't need to read further unless you want to get wound up :D

Some edited highlights:
Look, this is a problem that was not created by Real Madrid. Madrid is a spectator in this. At the moment the player and Manchester are in dispute and Real Madrid is waiting ... and can not do anything more for now.

And what evidence do you have to believe that Cristiano will be able to convince the Manchester to let him go?

I can't tell you that. The issue is the player has said publicly that his dream is to play in Madrid. We hear the words with pride and satisfaction, but his departure depends not only on Cristiano. Manchester has to allow it and that will happen or not happen. The important thing is that we are happy with this template. Would the arrival of Cristiano be a spectacular reinforcement? Yes. But we have an exceptional staff, as united and as committed as I can remember. And a heritage matched by few clubs in the world.

(He goes on to talk about how no one questions the price they paid for Zidane now, but before his arrival it was considered an outrageous price and a bad move. The same would be true with Ron.)

They'll talk next week. If United decide to sell - we'll be there.

What about the Blatter - slavery thing?

Look, when a player leaves a club, it's not just about money and that's what Blatter meant and I share. It is because they are not happy with the environment, the sporting setup, family life, the coach and his decisions ... In which case it is better to let go. I wouldn't want in Madrid, a single player who was unhappy. But we are fortunate that this Madrid 25 are happy.

(And Robinho's not for sale.)

And next time we are here, it'll be with Cristiano.

Ha! Hopefully!

Sir Alex Ferguson was on the verge of winning his battle of wills over Cristiano Ronaldo last night as Real Madrid admitted the world record move was not going to happen.

In the first sign of the white flag being raised at the Bernabeu, Real president Ramon Calderon and sporting director Predrag Mijatovic summoned a crisis board meeting.

And they confessed for the first time that the projected £70m-plus transfer was now "non-viable".

A boardroom source added: "Calderon is not willing to give up yet, but he feels it's not going to happen and he told the board that it will now be 'very difficult' to do the deal.

"Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, is still telling us that Cristiano wants to play for Real but it's clear that Ferguson and David Gill are sticking to their guns and aren't going to sell."

Fergie and Ronaldo are scheduled to meet face to face on Monday, while Real have moved on to Plan B.

That will see the double signing of Hamburg's Dutch midfielder Rafael van der Vaart and Valencia striker David Villa, to the approval of coach Bernd Schuster.

But Real's target-switching represents a massive victory for Ferguson and United.

Credit to SAF and Gill if and when he stays, especially SAF, his driving will at the helm of Manchester United will be sorely missed when he departs

do you have more of these in high quality ? :D

La Liga - Pepe "tired" of Ronaldo pursuit

Eurosport - Wed, 30 Jul 09:59:00 2008

Real Madrid defender Pepe admits he is growing increasingly frustrated by the ongoing Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga.

The Spanish champions have conducted a summer-long pursuit of Ronaldo as they attempt to prise the Portugal international from Manchester United.

But a move has yet to materialise - much to the frustration of Real president Ramon Calderon.

Bernabeu boss Bernd Schuster has sounded his concerns over his club's "obsession" with Ronaldo and Pepe - an international colleague of the United star - has echoed the sentiments of his manager.

"There is a bit of a lack of respect because a team is not made of one player - however good he is," said Pepe.

"Pele and Maradona won games but they had the help of their team-mates.

"We are a bit tired with this issue but we know that if Cristiano comes he will help us and we will help him to adapt into the dressing room."

Real have been linked with moves for Valencia and Spain striker David Villa or Hamburg playmaker Rafael van der Vaart, if they miss out on Ronaldo.

Calderon has conducted a summer-long pursuit of Ronaldo as he attempts to prise the Portugal international away from Manchester United.

However, a move has yet to materialise as United refuse to sell, while Ronaldo has kept his cards close to his chest since announcing it was his 'dream' to move to the Bernabeu.

And Calderon, who has been criticised by Real manager Bernd Schuster for an obsession with Ronaldo, now admits he can do little more than wait for a conclusion.

"Look, this (the Ronaldo saga) is a problem that wasn't created by Real Madrid," he told AS. "Madrid are just spectators in this soap opera.
Argument

"At the moment Manchester United and the player are in an argument and Madrid are waiting, and we can't do any more for the time being.

"Obviously, it's clear that we want Cristiano with the quality that he has. But there is a contractual problem that United and the player have to resolve, not us.

"Will he persuade the club to let him go? I can't say that. That question's for the player, who has publicly said his dream is to play for Madrid.

"We hear those words with pride and satisfaction, but his departure doesn't only depend on Cristiano. United are the ones that have to sort it out and it will either happen or not."

Ronaldo, who is recovering from ankle surgery, is yet to return to Manchester, but Calderon believes when he finally does it could be decisive for player and club.

Honestly, Calderon speaks more trash by the minute. The mess is not of our making...what an idiot!!

This HAS wound me up - the sporting setup, the coach and his decisions - that is a slur in my book.
