i am concerned that he is becoming a playboy. Only two years ago he said he hated alcohol, smoking and night clubs.

Its a slippery slope - - - - - -

Well then thank feck Manchester United don't play in L.A., I imagine the nightlife is far more tame in Manchester compared to LaLa Land, also he's neverdenied he loves beautiful women who are quite abundant in LA

I'd have been more worried if he hadn't issued a formal denial about the story that said he drank too much and ended up crutch-less. And while his ex has been pictured smoking, I've never heard of Ron doing that.

So why's he out clubbing? To be honest - why not? He's suffering from an excess of energy and there's just so many hours the lad can spend in the gym perfecting his pecs and not doing anything that might hurt his ankle before his physio says - "Why don't you just go out and get laid?"

Just a comment on the Becks-Ron comparison, I have been struck by one similarity this week. We've heard from Becks that he's got certain "obsessive-compulsive" foibles about training (the extra situps, the freekick practice) and that these spill into his off-field life (like keeping magazines in straight lines, and liking to see pairs of cans in the fridge).

With Ron we already knew about the extra training and the desire to improve. Now we get to watch Ron in (in)action and he's got to have the darkest tan, the shortest shorts, the most nights out, the most enthusiastic "getting over the ex" holiday. I guess the great thing about obsessive compulsives is if you can focus them in the right direction they'll do the rest

Ron to join "Entourage"?

"Entorange" more like. fecking hell, that tan is ridiculous.

The funny thing about that photo is that Ronaldo is the one who looks like he is all giddy because he has met one of his favourite stars. Adrian Grenier looks like he is just standing there thinking "yeah, whatever".

Very true.

However I think the whole Madrid situation is them trying to de-focus him from United and get him focused on a move to Madrid, which will inevitably happen in 1 or 2 years.

Ronaldo does not smoke as far as we know, but he has certainly been pictured drinking champagne and vodka.

Wrong.

I have seen no pictures of him drinking vodka or champagne and if you are talking about the article where a person who was at the club said he was seen drinking, it has since been denied (see jojojo's post a few days ago)

I'm sure the lad drinks from time to time, nothing wrong with it imo(it's the offseason for a while still for him), as a he isnt getting sloppy.

There is an interview with SAF in the times about the lifestyle of Ronaldo and yep you guessed it most of what we have read has been rubbish

Ronaldo quite clearly thinks that he is 'The Man' right now. Shagging sexy women on a regular basis, partying and relaxing in the sun.

What does it matter? He is on holiday and is just enjoying himself. He only has eight days left before he has to return, so he is just making the most of it. Many footballers also do the same once they are on holiday, we just don't hear about it because they are not as high profiled as Ronaldo

i very much doubt he is.

it's funny how people, despite the evidence of this summer, still take paper 'reports' as gospel.

the one thing i will always respect about Ronaldo is his professionalism and his dedication to his craft - this has been remarked on by practically everyone who's coached him. you can be certain that he knows beyond a shadow of a doubt how to take care of his body to keep it in good condition long-term. no doubt about it.

You've never rested on laurels but after conquering England and Europe last season, what are the goals for 2008-09?

Well, it’s straightforward for me. I’m thinking always of what I can say to the players in that first team meeting of the season. This time it was “what do you want your-selves?” I think it was summed up perfectly by Ryan Giggs at the dinner after the Champions League final. He made a speech, ‘I’ve had to wait nine years to win this trophy again’. Nine years is a long time and hopefully that registers with the players. They’ ve got a chance to win it again this season. That’s my immediate thought.

Having won in Moscow with a youngish team, we could do it again. The league will always be important because of the tribalism in your country and we start off with Newcastle – you know what the Geordies are like, fantastic atmosphere – then go to Portsmouth, Liverpool and London. Chel-sea, they’ll be wanting to confound my comments about them being an old team (mischievous laugh).

But if this team can win another European Cup it puts them on a different platform to any other United team in history. AC Milan have won the trophy seven times, Liverpool five, Bayern Munich and Ajax four, and we should really be in that frame. Europe is our priority in the sense it’s the big challenge for us, to get on to the level at least of the Liverpools and Bayerns.

How will you manage Ronaldo when he returns?

The boy loves to play football. He loves training. He’s always last off the field and that won’t change. The injury? Right now he can’t do any fitness work because he’s got the crutches, you see. He’s out of plaster in eight days’ time. At that point he will return to us to start rehabilitation.

It’s okay that he’s in LA?

There’s no harm in him going there. He’s gone to do a commercial thing. I think he’s signed up with a new commercial company, an LA-based company.

There are photographs of him in nightclubs . . .

Listen, I’ve got someone with him there. It's a load of rubbish. He’s not drinking for a start. They (newspapers) had him drinking vodka and that. I said to myself: “Drinking vodka?” I phoned my friend who’s with him and he says: “Boss, there’s no truth in that.” Ronaldo doesn’t drink, we know he doesn’t drink. Stories about some of the other stuff he’s doing are rubbish too.

You sent a club employee with Ronaldo?

We (United) have got someone, aye.

You mentioned Ronaldo’s dedication yet he’s being portrayed as a glamour boy. Are you confident he hasn’t changed?

Any young player who’s had that type of success is going to get attention. The important thing is how they handle it. We know success changes people but the change you like to see is when there’s an elevation in the player’s own esteem which helps them become better. That’s the case with him. At 23 he is reaching the stage where his maturity, his personality and the presence he has on the world stage should help him.

Is there any similarity with Beckham in that he’s no longer being seen as just a footballer?

No. I don’t want to go into it (the differences between Ronaldo and Beckham) but it’s obvious.

How does losing Carlos Queiroz as your number two disrupt plans?

We’re not in a hurry to find a replacement, though we’re looking. When you lose a good man you take your time before filling the position. But with our experience, hopefully it’s not too big a loss. Carlos did some great work but Mike Phelan has been with me 10 years, Les Kershaw, Jim Ryan nearly 20 years. And there’s Rene Meulensteen. They’re all good coaches.

Nonetheless, it puts an extra burden on you – and you’re 67 inDecember.

Naw. Naw. I was going to maybe take a week off now and then, but that’s that bolloxed. But, really, the only time I’ll have to do a lot extra is if we pick a new assistant, because you have to bed them in.

You’ll miss Queiroz’s language skills?

Without question. We’re going to have to work hard with our language teachers, with the players who are still adjusting to the English language, such as Nani, Carlos Tevez and Anderson.

So the new No 2 won’t necessarily be British?

He could easily come from abroad because that would give me an advantage in terms of language, but I’m open-minded.

Would you manage a GB team at the 2012 Olympics?

Seb Coe did have a meeting with me. I said: “2012, that’s a long way off and I don’t know my retirement plans.” But I told him I would give it consideration, because I may have retired by then and want to accept those kinds of challenges that come up on a short-term basis.

If Scotland boycotted the team?

Well, obviously that would make things difficult.

You made Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reserve team manager, a rapid pro-motion for a coach in his first year. Could he be a top manager?

He’s taking his badges and he’s got a lot of qualities, a good manner with the players and a different way of getting things out of them, because he has a quiet-spoken nature. He’s improved his voice levels, which is important in coaching, but I don’t know his ambitions. Coaching’s always the best thing. Anyone who wants to take the next step into that unknown valley of snakes and rats and all the rest of it . . .

You’re surely not talking about the press?

Exactly! That’s where the valley is.

------------

He really is the Godfather of football

Encouraging interview there with SAF - protective of someone he obviously still thinks of as his player and a bit of careful flattery to go with it.

How long before Ole manages United?

How long before Ole manages United?
Can't see Ole wanting to put up with the shit that goes with being a top-level club manager. He probably likes the day-to-day coaching stuff with the players, but I can't see him being happy dealing with players acting like pricks over their new contracts.

Is this interview for real? If so it's quite revealing and leads me to think Ron's really staying

Who are the snakes and who the rats?

Ron's definitely staying Bahama.

Looks like it but Fergie seems to have got the "two weeks" disease......I keep saying...it ain't over till the phap laddie sings.

Fergie confident on Ronaldo
by Alex Livie, 26 July 2008

ronaldo_suit.jpg

Sir Alex Ferguson has issued a bullish statement on Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Scot convinced the winger will remain a Manchester United player next season.
Real Madrid signalled their intention to sign the winger earlier in the summer and it would appear the player had his head turned, as he made a number of statements expressing a desire to move.
The Red Devils have dug in their heels and adopted a united front in insisting any offer from Real would be resisted.
Real have backed off a little in recent weeks, insisting the ball is in Ronaldo’s court, and with just a month of the transfer window remaining Ferguson is confident the player will not be leaving Old Trafford.
”Of course he is going to stay next year,” Ferguson said on Setanta Sports News.
“This is our intention and I think that will be proved right in the next few weeks.
”It’s straightforward to me.”
