FWIW, there's now an interview with Ronaldo on the Sports Illustrated website, published earlier today, which contains the following quotes:

World Soccer: And you're happy now at Manchester United?

Ronaldo: Of course. Everyone must know that by now.

World Soccer: How do you cope with being perpetually under scrutiny by the English media, in particular the tabloids?

Ronaldo: I've become accustomed to the stories that get made up about me. It's not an issue.

So that's promising!

Good news there.

Had to laugh at this quote from the Times....

"The Real president also sought to play down the recent row between the clubs.

"Speaking more about this will only damage the relationship between the clubs," Calderon added. "Occupation of countries and turning Columbus into a Spaniard have already been talked about," he said, in reference to quotes made by United No 2 Carlos Queiroz last week about Real's behaviour, when he accused the Spanish club of trying to 'nationalise' Ronaldo. "

Calderon is a right cnut says all this shite about us being friends. Then when we ask Real to stop there interest in Ronaldo he says no cnut.

Fergie has the balls to let the best player in the world rot in the reserves....that alone will guarantee Ronaldo stays with us....for another 3 years...

But if it Has to come to come to threats, then I would get the best money from Real....

I still think this is about Ronaldo trying to renogtiate the contract he signed so he can get even more money.....

we'll know soon enough... :nervous:

So what this shit about there be news in 2 or 3 days time?

Can anyone dig out an interview, with actual quotes from Ronaldo, where he mentions this "2 or 3 days" thing?

Cause I'm fecked if I can. All I can find are third-hand reports. Very real chance he's been misquoted or a throwaway comment about Euro 2008 has been taken completely out of context.

mate tells me during the portugal georgia match the portuguese commentators said that ronaldo would make a decision in 2 - 3 days. they speculated that hes going nowhere near RM. they also said that best player in the world should equal best paid player in the world.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaa ? scrutiny, he's been lauded as the best player in England for 2 seasons straight by the British press. These guys were probably Marca in disguise.

It was after the Georgia game. No time to look for it now. Give me 2 or 3 days

Well, its not going to be today.............

Portuguese and Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo looking healthy

By The Associated Press
Cristiano Ronaldo looks healthy.
The Manchester United star and front-runner for FIFA player of the year honors practiced normally with his teammates and appeared injury-free Monday despite having ice wrapped around his ankle after an earlier training session.
Ronaldo kicked the ball with both feet and participated in all drills in Portugal's second practice, just hours after trainers taped the ice around his right foot before he left for the dressing room.
The measure had been a precaution, however, and the winger looked fine during both sessions. He was not limping and did not appear to be in pain.
Amid widespread speculations about his future, Ronaldo has not announced where he will play next season. He did not talk to the media Monday and his teammates brushed off all questions on the subject.

"We are here to defend a country," Real Madrid defender Pepe said. "Cristiano knows this and he doesn't want the (speculation) to influence him."
Madrid was reportedly willing to pay a world-record transfer of about $120 million for Ronaldo.
Portugal, the Euro 2004 host which lost to Greece in the final. opens Saturday against Turkey in Geneva."

Wish I could say the same about his fans.

To be fair, there can be no excuses for Ronaldo.

Every fan who's gone to our games this year has given him everything, fans have bought the united shirt and got his name on the back...kids idolise him...Sir Alex supported him and he's being messed with by Ronaldo AGAIN. We fecking made him the player he is, and he shouldn't fecking forget that before spending '2 or 3 weeks' messing around with the club, and the fans.

True, this is all about Money, and holding out for a better deal from United, but Rio got shit for this, so why shouldn't Ronaldo?

I fully believe he is very happy here, but we've just won the European Cup for feck sake. We should be concentrating on enjoying what the club has achieved and looking forward to next season, and Ronaldo has tainted the winning feeling through this bullshit and refusal to flat out state his position.

Influence what exactly, does he really have a "decision" to make. He himself knows he can end all the speculation by coming out and saying what the hell is going on.

Manchester United have issued Real Madrid with a ‘hands-off’ warning regarding the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.

The Spanish station claims United’s chief executive David Gill sent a formal letter to Madrid, asking them to forget about Ronaldo.

Gill’s letter reportedly tells Madrid that United will reject any attempt to negotiate for the Portuguese talisman, who netted 42 goals for The Red Devils this season.

Madrid president Ramon Calderon was the recipient of the letter, just hours after he declared the deal was impossible.

Ronaldo has stated he will clarify his future by Wednesday.

Contract negotiations dominated the landscape during the summer after the treble, with Keane turning down United's initial £2 million-a-year offer amid rumours of a move to Italy.[10] His higher demands were eventually met midway through the 1999-00 season, committing him to United until 2004. Keane was angered when club officials explained an increase in season ticket prices was a result of his improved contract and asked for an apology from the club

I forgot this was when we won CL too.

The two or three days comment came as he was attempting to dodge the press by sneaking out during the second half of the Georgia game. There's no audio of it, so what you've got are the notes of the half dozen reporters who stopped him on the way to his car.

The version from the Portugues reporter said:
Can we expect news in the coming days over your future?
"I certainly hope so."
When?
'Soon'
Soon when?
"In two or three days, I hope."

The Spanish reporter from Marca remembered it as, "I'll announce my decision in two or three days."

The multiply retranslated, requoted, recycled and retranslated quotes are all just that - there have been about 6 sentences of actual comments from Ronaldo on this since he got back to Portugal.

wow!

If that's true, some look foolish. I was wondering why he would say "a decision" is

Not for me he hasn't, or the vast majority of United fans I hope. He's not said anything to taint what has been a great season and one that wouldn't have been so great without him. You'd have to be a pretty fickle person for that to be the case, when we've won the Premiership and especially the Champions League for only the third time in our history, 50 years after the Busby Babes and 40 years after the first ever time on such a historic night and such incredible fashion...to feel that it's tainted by one player who hasn't done anything to deserve such criticism is in my opinion an exaggeration of epic proportions.

For goodness sake, get some perspective. I'm still overjoyed by what we have achieved this season! This type of success will not be there forever so don't overshadow it with all this (mainly) press talk.

Because the people giving Rio shit were absolute fecking spastics?

If that doesn't convince you, how about the fact Ronaldo has just scored 42 goals in a season in which we won the double?

As opposed to, say, being banned for 8-months, on full pay, after "forgetting" to piss in a pot?

Kin 'ell. Can't even believe you would make that comparison.

Indeed. Having said that for every spastic on here you'll find two saying the same thing on that other well known United forum where, believe it or not, the posters are even thicker than in the Cafe.

The saga continues

And gay-boy Guti has come out said he'd sign Ronaldo if he had the chance blah blah blah

Excuse me for disturbing you mr virtuoso but if you take your red blinkers off you might get a better view. The vast majority of United fans are up in arms over this, and are not taking too kindly to Ronaldo's utterances that he'll "let us know his decisions soon". If you can say that he hasn't done anything to deserve this then either you've had your head in a big hole this last week or you're not really a United supporter. Have you seen Fergie and CQ up in arms or has that passed by you too. And don't call me fickle, you cnut!

Tis as I thought.

Assorted drama queens are using this as an excuse to prove they're "top reds"

I'm fecking delighted about the double and the only reason this might - in any way - take away from the season just gone is because I'm disappointed in so many united fans acting like spoilt brats.

oh for the love of God pogue.

i'm reading about how when it's over some people will be embarassed? we're all not at war people lol

A message board, you give an opinion.

Alot of people live in the past and that's fine but not everyone, they think of next season and therefore this ronaldo bollocks is in the forefront.

All this top red stuff is nonsense and people have a right to vent or maybe you'd rather people run on the streets beating any cnut they like senseless because they have no platform to vent. c'mon pogue, no ones acting brattish here

It's clearly the lack of football getting to everyone and everyone just wants to see madrid nuked lol

By 'tainting' I meant as in now (after season), where a lot of the attention is going on his future, not tainting what the club has achieved this year or the contribution Ronaldo made.

Didn't explain it very well... but at the moment, I, like many other united fans are wondering what the hell is going on with Ronaldo, will he be here next season? If not how do we move on?

That's not how it should be having had the 2nd most successful season in our history.

The chief agrees.

Calling someone a cnut for describing people as fickle ranks as brattish behaviour in my book.

If singing Ronaldo's name two weeks ago (when he scored a goal in the CL fecking final) only to start slating him after a few articles in Marca and some poorly worded intervies isn't fickle, what is?

As for accusing someone of not being a real fan, just because they're giving Ronaldo the benefit of any doubt.... pfffft....

Ronaldo has just signed a new contract with us

He then states he "will make a decision" on his future...

He has no decision to make, he shouldn't have signed the contract. Take off the blindfold and realise he is messing us about....even if he stay, which he will. He's the best player in the world, but is an attention seeker.

I keep hearing 'No player is bigger than the club', which is very true, but acceptance of such bullshit isn't in line with this.

I agree. No one should deny what we went through was great but some of us think about the future more then others who are able to savior the here and now.

It's just how people think. The best footballers think the way we do, because they're always looking to improve, to win more

For me and i agree with the point, Ronaldos taken alittle of the joy away because we're now talking about rather then chatting about the season just gone or the fact we're european champions!

Pogue feck it. Come to the general and leave them to furiously crywank about how Ronaldo doesn't love them any more.

If no player really is bigger than the club, why are people getting so irate, so prematurely?

He stays he stays. He goes he goes. MUFC will be fine, either way.

No player is bigger than the club but - while he remains a Manchester United player - lets give him the benefit of any doubt, eh?

no it ranks as cnutish behaviour to me ;) but look he's stressed. give the guy a break for the love of God lol. People deal with it in different ways

It may be fickle but what's signing a contract last season and teasing the media a year later? C'mon. There are alot of things wrong here and it's not just the fans that aren't reacting well.

Hey we're all united fans here and by definition fans support the players - even if you hate them. I don't agree with that but people say things in the heat of the moment. Like Ronaldo after the world cup.

Once we're over this, everyone will be happy again no worries

it's cnuts like you that piss people off trying to be 'cool' on the internet..lol fecking hell

If general was so cool, what you coming in here? :) moment of weakness?

people like you who say us or them...we're all united fans. People that try and break down that basic idealism are fecking idiots in my opinion.

But anyway..

First of all, take it two steps back. Secondly, I was not calling those that are criticising Ronaldo right now fickle. I was saying that it is absolutely, terribly wrong to say that this Ronaldo saga has tainted us winning the Premiership and Champions League this season and anyone who thinks that Ronaldo's antics deserve to overshadow what has been a great season is very much int he wrong. You've highlighted where I have backed Ronaldo, and yes I do back him. But what I'm saying is that he has done nothing anywhere near as bad to say that it has tainted or overshadowed one of our greatest ever seasons and to think that is overreacting. I fully stand by that, you seemed to have completely missed that point which was the nucleus of my view.
