But I don't recall SAF ever saying Stam wouldn't be sold. (and actually since then he has said he regrets selling him so will surely learn from his mistake)

SAF has said Ronaldo won't be sold, even willing to place a very large bet on it. I can't see SAF going back on his word, he doesn't usually, no matter what Ronaldo says or does.

SAF said Veron wasn't for sale a few days before shipping him out to Chelsea. As I said earlier in the thread, it's a good start to any negotiation to say we're not for selling.

Veron was a failure at OT though, Ronaldo is the complete opposite. Veron came in with the reputation, where as Ronaldo's rep was created at OT

Wasn't the best player in the world at the time though Sultan!

That's not the point though mate. SAF said he was not for sale regardless. He did pay around 28 Million pounds for him, so I hardly think he was rubbish.

Of course you could be right, I guess we don't know what goes on behind the scenes. I remember Moggi saying Zidane wasn't for sale and then the Italian media started saying that the officials from both clubs would meeting to agree a fee, which Moggi denied and again said Zidane wasn't for sale only for a picture to come out of them meeting to agree a fee!

I would be very suprised if we were negogiating with Real behind the scenes though

I cant see him being welcomed with open arms by the players either. For one thing, no-one is supposed to be paid more than Raul, and if he is going to be paid a lot more than the others there will be ructions. Then there's the No.7 shirt issue and the delicate matter of rubbing along with Ruud and Ramos. No it wont be a bed of roses there especially when he gets the white hankie treatment, but has he thought it through?

Doesn't matter. He is number 7 for Portugal

SAF has shown a lot more desire to keep hold of Ronaldo. You're right though, every player has a price, if Real offer a 150 million pounds, I am sure SAF would pull the trigger maybe for even a 100+ million, that said Real won't offer that so it's not gonna happen

I agree fergie will sell if he feels it right whatever he has said before, it all depends what he feels will benifit the team most.
He sold Stam but it was because he believed he was not as good as he was after injury and he got a bloody good offer. He admitted Stam proved him wrong by getting back to his best.

Any decent offer will turn United's heads. Especially now that the fans are against Ronaldo. You should hear the radio talk shows here in the UK. Fans are appalled, and tired of his attitude.

A lot more importantly his of the field value has all but diminished - which usually comes into the equation when salaries are are fixed.

Up until a aweek ago, I wanted us to keep Ronaldo - end of.

Now I feel that if Madrid step up and put their money where the fat mouths are, and offer us £80 million, we should take it.

If they **** around and insult us with stupid offers, and Ronnie insists on going, then he can get used to the reserves subs bench, **** him in the ear.

Once he's had a chat with Fergie and its all sorted out and he is staying, then after the first 3 goals he scored against the Barcodes - its Viva Ronaldo

Yup, feel the same. I'd be happy with 70m.

Although it'll take much more than 3 goals for Viva Ronaldo to start again.

I wont boo him if he stays and he will get the support all United players get. However, Viva Ronaldo will not be coming out of my mouth when im at OT thats for sure. Especially after the a couple of goals and they will forget comment.

Other fans may feel different, seeing as though some still seem to think Ronaldo has been badly advised or influenced and is not responsible for his own actions.

All the more reason to wait until another fine season boosts his value again then. :D

You've heard the last of Viva Ronaldo at OT - unless some great U-turn from Ronaldo. Even then it will take more than a few goals.

Are you coming up for the Newcastle game?

Yeah, will need something really special. Will probably take the time Rio took to win back the fans but he won't be around for that long though..

Not sure yet. It will depend on work. I'll be going to the community shield though provided I get a ticket, which seems quite likely.

I've been reading back through this thread & looking back over Ronaldos comments. How did he go from 'It's not up to me, the club must decide...I stay, I stay' before leaving for the euros, to saying he'd made his mind up before the CL final & more recently echoing Blatters slavery comments? Someone, or some turn of events, has turned his head.

What if the Glazers have decided they want to cash in on Ronaldo now, sell at the top of the market if you will? What if they've gone behind SAF's back to Madrid & told them if the price is right anything is possible, but their tacit agreement can never be known? If Real want him badly enough they'll sign up to some kind of silence clause, it happens in business frequently. It's possible that the fans & Ronaldo are being manipulated & we should be wise to that.

If it's Ronaldos dream to move & he wants to move now, why doesn't he put in a transfer request? Yeah it will cost him, but in his situation would put a few measly mill ahead of your 'dream'?

Maybe Ronaldo is just being a cnut, but there are other possibilities, we should remember that.

Apart from Syph Bladder's comments not much bullshit around. Ronaldometer's moving though due to adverse fan reaction these last few days. Definitely having an affect.....and its a steady flux. Quite noticeable. We're driving him away. Might be best for all though.

the key point in all this is Ronaldo and SAF have still to have that meeting....what has been added is the agreement to 'Grease my palm Blatter's comments'....

...and Gil and the Glazzers are not without their faults in how all this has been handled...

..and how do we know that then? Gill's goldfish perhaps.

this started out first and foremost about renegotiating the contract...and i still believe if Gill and the Glazers had said lets sit down to talk....this would not have gone so far.

...I still think SAF will be the key in Ronaldo staying or not...

But that's implying that Ronaldo deserved a new contract.

If they felt he didn't (and why should he?) then there was no reason to have that meeting. You seem overly keen on blaming this on Gill and the Glazers.

I'm afraid this is the rare Manchester United issue that can't be.

I never said Ronaldo deserved a new contract...he wants one....supply and demand...and while all of us here see United as the second most...and for some the most important thing in their lives...in the end it is a business...and not negotiating when one party obviously wants to...is a recipe for the disaster this has almost become....

What? Since... when were contracts renegotiated based on one... party wanting to? If that were the case players would... spend their entire lives asking for more money and, by your... logic, receiving... it.

If United felt... his... current contract was... adequate then they were under... absolutely no obligation... to offer... him a new one. To claim... they... were... stupid... is... stupid... itself; why... should the club bend... over backwards... to pander to his will? ...

when one party is dissatisfied..there is a need to renogotiate or let the contract expire or be broken....and not every player will or can ask for more money...and you should be able to figure that out....I hope...

So, everybody thinks Ronaldo is wrong other than Calderon, Bladder, fjred, Rooney gr8 and obviously Instant Karma.

i say wait and see fella..no believing media bollocks!!
he IS STILL A MAN UTD PLAYER, and i will support him whilst he is, and until that day. like i did when other players have been in the headlines and vilified!

there are people on here accusing him of disrespecting the club, but if fergie says he stays, then he stays..EASY!!
but those people are saying, i will boo him from the moment he touches the ball untill the end of the game, who is disrespecting the club now then, who is disrespecting the man who has lifted this club back to the summit where it belongs, for many on here seem to think that they know better the SAF. i say stand by him untill he is NOT a man utd player. Trust SAF, not the rival fans on here masquerading as man utd fans stirring shit whilst laughing on the inside..
the fact that so many people on here are so quick to judge in such a successful year, IS a total fecking disgrace....i suppose fergies number two could actually be a caf member, after all certain ones could put him right , tell who to sell and buy and remind him of what people should be and how they should act when wearing our famous badge... because some here dont deserve him - TRUE!!!

just so there is no misunderstanding...Ronaldo has been absolutely mercenary in this matter...I Still think this is All about money.....but all I am pointing out is the business side of the matter could have been handled better by Gill and Glazers...btw I'm not sure if this has been made worse by any secret negotiations behind Gill and SAF by the owners and Real...
