Could we still be the best in Europe...

without Ronaldo? (feel free to move to the Ronaldo thread if necessary...)

1. If you took Ronaldo out of the current squad, do you think we would still be favourites to win the league next year? Could we retain the European Cup?

How important is Ronaldo to our success?

2. Assuming we had plenty of cash, is there any realistic transfer target or more than one which we could bring in to make up for losing him?

3. Is there anyone else who we couldn't cope without?

The godfather of Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed that the Portugal winger has already decided to join Real Madrid this summer.

The 23-year-old has been the subject of constant speculation linking him with Real since the season ended, with United's hierarchy becoming increasingly frustrated by the situation.

CRISTIANO RONALDO However, Ronaldo's godfather, Fernao Sousa, claims that a decision to move on has already been taken.

He told the Daily Express: "I believe Cristiano has taken a decision that he is going to Real Madrid, but he is not going to reveal it until after the European Championships.

:lol::lol:

I havent been worried about it all till now.

What the feck is he playing at. Wake up to yourself Ronnie.

What contract's that then?

I'm assuming he's angling for some kind of improvement to the current terms, otherwise all these comments in recent weeks and months...well they would show him in a rather poor light if not. Real shabby.

You think it is all the limelight and suspense? Ego?

Could equally be that i suppose.

Still Fergie should ask him to change agents. lol

Thing is, if he does get a new contract then his agent has done his job! So why would he change him?

If he wants to leave, then feck off. No player is bigger than United. He'll be a huge loss, but I'm sure we'll cope without him.

He will end up like Ronaldinho in a few years time, a party boy/media whore. Which will destroy his career. He will NEVER top the last 2 seasons he has had with United if he goes to Madrid. United are on the rise, Madrid are in decline. The fans in Madrid wont appreciate him as much as United fans do, i can assure you that.

Lets get real, no smoke without fire... it's about time we start facing the facts and getting on with llife.

They show him in a poor light regardless of his motives. He agreed to a new deal one year ago.

Since the Champions League final I've been thinking it 60-40 in favour of Ronaldo staying. Sad to say I now think its 60-40 that he'll leave.

Provided Fergie brings in a worthy replacement I don't see why not.

We still have a fantastic midfield and defence.

No way does Ronaldo not stay for at least the next season.

Yes, he'd be a loss but Rooney would step up and Rio is more important anyway.

I see Gary Neville is going to be a pundit for ITVs coverage of Portugal vs Turkey, it could put him in a difficult position but he might have a few interesting things to say on the Ronaldo situation......

we are going to be relegated next season

His motives as to the issue would be up to him but you've got to think that wer'e no fans of ol' Jorge Mendez.

Coudl do it as a courtesy to Sir Alex, a gesture of loyalty. Bi tof recovery on the public relations front too.

Look we're not a one member team, we could even possibly get better with the money we make from him. But the problem is it gives credibility to the phone 'Real want our player, Real get our player' theory. Which will hurt the clubs image in the publics eye as in the transfer market.

I understand what you're saying amol. I think that's slightly offset by the silly amount of money Madrid will have to pay to get the best player in the world right now with 4 years remaining on his contract though. Even better if he turns out a relative dud for them. It's fairly accepted Ronaldo plays much better for United than Portugal, I put that at the door of the additional freedom to play his game Fergie issues him. I doubt Madrid will play as fluid. We could be seen to be fleecing Madrid out of a fortune

He's best mates with Heinze folks, what the hell did we expect?

Drama queens, he'll stay. Stop reacting to comments of someone pushing for more money and translated across three languages. Tits.

I've yet to discover the point of you on here

We should absolutely react to someone pushing for more money if this is the way they conduct themselves. It damages the clubs image, and it takes the piss out of the fans that have been extremely loyal to him. You don't even know for sure it is angling for more money, which makes you look a bigger prat

It'd significantly weaken us in the short term. Even if only for the reason that the team would have lost its talisman; the player the others look to for a bit of magic. Take a 42 goal-a-season scorer out of any team and it'll hurt them.

Having said all that, he is not bigger than the club and if he goes, we move on...

I hate it when the media presents us as some sort of an inferior team to Madrid. If Ronnie leaves, it will be because he loves Real, not that Real are a bigger team.

Ofcourse we can. To think otherwise would be disrespecting the other members of the United team.

We have a great team here, with possibly a few new players coming in. The defense has been amazing, the midfield is one of the best i've seen and well Rooney and Tevez are just amazing to watch.

Is there a replacement out there that will make up for losing Ronaldo, I think there is. I think there are a couple of players who can fill the gap left if Ronaldo leaves (I'll leave that for the transfer forum).

We all know how good a player Ronaldo is, but I think its wrong to think United will struggle without him.

he's the driving force of the team though

you cant buy someone and expect them to fit right in

there are more talented players out there but none who can give us what he gives us

if he goes to Madrid he will fail because they have plenty of players who think they are the driving force of the team

He will stay, Ferguson will move heaven and earth to keep him at the club. Ronaldo will get a fat new contract which makes him the best paid player at the club which is what he deserves really. Everyone will be happy

1. If you took Ronaldo out of the current squad, do you think we would still be favourites to win the league next year? Could we retain the European Cup?

Yes. Fergie replaced Cantona, Beckham, Ruud before. He will properly replace Ronaldo

How important is Ronaldo to our success?

As much as Ruud was, or Becks. He is no Keane though. He is replaceable.

2. Assuming we had plenty of cash, is there any realistic transfer target or more than one which we could bring in to make up for losing him?

I'll leave it to Fergie

3. Is there anyone else who we couldn't cope without?

Rio is the most difficult to replace. I fear he is one of the last of a kind player like Keane.

1. If you took Ronaldo out of the current squad, do you think we would still be favourites to win the league next year?
Definitely, if he doesn't score goals other people will, as happened in 2006/7. Also, if we decide to sell him rather than leaving him to rot, we'll have the money to buy someone who can approach his goal tally

Could we retain the European Cup?

We probably won't retain the European Cup anyway, 5/1 with the bookies, and no-one's ever retained the CL

How important is Ronaldo to our success?

Not as vastly as made out, if he left others would step up.

2. Assuming we had plenty of cash, is there any realistic transfer target or more than one which we could bring in to make up for losing him?

A striker, take your pick of anyone from Europe, that's what the team was missing last season and why Ronaldo was so important to us, get one in and we'd be fine.

3. Is there anyone else who we couldn't cope without?

No.

Ronaldo to decide on United future in 'two to three days'

· United star keen to end speculation on future before Euro 2008
· Ferguson admits owners would 'drop Ronaldo rather than sell'

The Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he will make an announcement on his future plans in the next "two to three days". Ronaldo has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent weeks although United are determined to hold on to their prize asset and have even threatened to report the Spanish champions to Fifa over what they claim are attempts to unsettle him.
Speaking after Portugal's 2-0 win over Georgia, Ronaldo claimed that he was hoping to soon make an announcement to end the speculation. "I hope there will be news soon," he told the Portuguese newspaper A Bola. "In two to three days I will announce my decision."
If he does decide that his future lies away from Old Trafford, Ronaldo will have a fight on his hands to secure a transfer to the Bernabéu. United's manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that the club's owners are so determined to keep hold of the player that they would be prepared to drop him rather than sell to Madrid. "I've had a couple of meetings with the Glazers," said Ferguson. "Their attitude is, 'To hell with them'. They'd sit a player in the stand, I'm telling you, absolutely no doubt about it, just to prove a point. Not to give in to these people. They've got balls, I can tell you. I've been delighted with them in that respect."
The Glazers took United over in an £800m deal in the summer of 2005 and their arrival caused huge ructions among fans due to the debt they placed on the club. Ferguson, however, has been delighted with the support of the Americans since their regime began and their latest proposed stance over the Ronaldo issue appears to have strengthened his opinion of his employers. "They've been good to this club, believe me," he said. "They have been brilliant owners."

With Marca there could quite easily be smoke without fire, quite easily.
