Head. Still. Sand

Very good but the facts as known, do not bear out your speculation. I've no wish to upset fellow supporters, but I get the feeling that a lot on here are more interested in proving themselves right with Ronaldo staying or going in second place. I'm one who wanted him sold the day after the CL final and replaced with 2/3 quality players but Fergie won't do it until he's ready.

Not everybody. That's the beauty of this thread. It's got everyone's opinion...something you don't get all the time on the caf. Good insight to a lot of posters. Including you.

Eh, I'm talking about Ronaldo. Facts, I'll believe it, but we do seem to be in short supply. Again, plenty of promises, mind! When the press starts sympathising with us, I get very suspicious.

My opinion hasn't changed very much. The bottom line is the same. We hold his contract, and we don't have to let him leave if we don't want to. Personally I think Ronaldo should be taught a lesson about responsibility. He made a commitment, and he is expected honor that agreement. When the club decided to increase his pay, he happily agreed. We have lived up to our end of the bargain with him, and now it is time for him to do the same.

Of course there is no question of him rotting in the reserves. If SAF decides that he still wants the player, he will certainly play.

On the other hand you only want players that want to play for man utd.

And how does he do that then. Threaten him with detention?

Only if that lack of desire affects overall performances. I'm willing to make the bet that it wouldn't. I could be wrong, but I think the risks are worth it.

Okay, let's step abck a pace and see where you sand in the context of such of the major deveopments throughout this whole saga.

Are you aware of the the Terra interivew? If so, do you believe it to be genunine or a fabrication?

Similarly the quotes from an interivew with Guillem Balague after Portuval's exit from Euro 2008 that were released oh...not much short of 36 hours ago. What was your opinion of them?

Agree with this. All footballers want to play. A player can keep pushing for a move, ultimately at the end of his contract but all players want to play. I happen to believe Ronaldo wouldn't mind going but is equally content to stay. It's unfortunate he's impressionable and the hyenas know it.

I havn't seen or heard any interview. Has anybody other than the people alleging it? All I've seen are reported comments. We seem to be very short of founded facts. The club moved yesterday to dampen down 'speculation'. Note the word they used - speculation.

I feel that his heart is no longer with us. Saddened by that fact. I guess Rooney and Tevez will have to step up in their goalscoring form, and Anderson and Nani to mature. We still have one of the strongest, or not the strongest team on the Premiership on our day.

his heart is with his reflection in the mirror. he will play as well as possible if forced in order to glorify his image.

What will ronaldo say in 2 days time? I think he said it all already.

He'll probably say 'i want to leave, i will pursuade the club to sell me, if they dont want to, i will stay until my contract ends and leave by then'.

either that or 'i was just kidding!'

fecking Hell! This shit is fecking with me now.

A normal Firdaay night, I return home completely drunk, tis almost 2:30 and even thogh I am completely bladdered, I have to check for any updates on this befoer I sleep.

I would be fecking gutted if he goes. Listen to Fergie, you daft feck. Fiuck all the hype, feck your agent and feck all bollocks coming out of that shithole from Spain. Stick with what has made you what you fecking are, you thick cnut.

But unfortunately, the daft prick is hell bent on letting all this go. He won't realise what he has until he loses it, the stupid wanker.

They will get worse. Remember the year we sold Stam? We had three targets in mind (one of them was Ayala) whom we didnt get because their prices shot up. We solved it once and for all with the signing of Ferdinand which costed us 30m.

There's no doubt that if we make a big sale, prices will rise when he try to sign someone, but the Stam case was also different because we sold him so late in the transfer window.

You would like a United player on the field who didn't want to be there?
:nervous:

He would want to be there given the options we would give. It's better than rotting in the reserves and not evolving as a player.

Do I want a United player on the field who would prefer to be SOMEWHERE ELSE? Sure, I don't care. That's the case with most players nowadays anyway. You're average player at West Ham would probably prefer to be at United, but that doesn't stop West Ham from playing him.

Of course in a perfect world, I want loyalty and pride in the club because I'm a fan. But if a player is under contract with us, I don't give two shits where else he might want to be. He has a responsibility to honor his word.

You're right, but as long as Gill and Ferguson continue their bluster about sending Ronaldo to the stands and not selling players unless they absolutely want to, nobody can be sure how much money we'll have. I'm sure prices will be inflated above their usual level, but if we sell late in he Summer it'll help to keep prices down a little. Ultimately though, we're Manchester united, so prices are alway going to be higher than normal.

Nothing changes there. Some says we're one of the richest clubs in the world, others say one of the poorest. Regardless of the debt, more money goes through our coffers so other clubs will always try charge us a higher price.

We can bluster all we want but everyone 'knows' we're selling Ronaldo (whether we are selling or not).

Alternative players will reduce the amount by which we will be ripped off. If club A want to gauge 10 million from us we will move to B or C until we find an acceptable player at an acceptable price.

I just don't understand the influence of Scolari. I mean Ronaldo is working with Ferguson and Carlos for 11 months a year, then all of a sudden he spends 2 weeks with Scolari and he listens to him for advice.

Sure, but I doubt Sir Alex will really trust him consistently to produce 100% for the team.

that's a good point. it's up to sir alex ferguson to decide if it is worth the risk to force him to play. how likely is it that the player won't continue to achieve to same high standards? saf knows much better than any of us because he has much more knowledge about the player and specific circumstances than we do. if he thinks that there is a high risk that the ronaldo will drop his performance level, this would obviously be a big factor in the decision. my opinion is that it is worth the risk to keep him and force him to play.

It took us years to find Stam's replacement which ended up when we spent top dollar for Rio

Sadly, this is pretty conclusive to me (obviously direct quotes from him in English):

He's been here 5 brilliant years and now we can sell him for 50+ million quid.
Or play him in the Reserves..

Um. That's just a sports writers interpretation of the same interview we've hashed over for a day now. NOTHING NEW. NOTHING.

As an American, I have no doubt the Glazers won't let him go if Fergie doesn't want him to. They've benched one of the best wide receivers in football for similar reasons - to the team's detriment. And it was the right thing to do.

Americans view this in an entirely different way. Sports stars do not get to say where and when they want to leave if they have signed a contract. The team is owned by Americans and that will have an impact in this situation. I'd let him stew in the reserves if he asked for a move myself. United can probably still make up the difference on Ronaldo shirt sales.

I really do not understand why Ronaldo would rather be in a circus than a football team that are European Champions and Champions of England.:wenger:
However if he is to be sold then replacements should be bought first otherwise they will become more expensive when teams know how much we have after a sale.

To be honest, I hope this is what happens. Bench him for 6 months and feck his mind and his form. Then sell the cnut for 50 million to some Italian team next summer cos we want to.

Feel 0% love for this slimeball cnut now. Nor do I care much for his contribution to my team.

Because he grew up in Portugal, watching Real, not Manchester United. His reason for wanting to go, if true, seems obvious. Also, his family would be close by. Plus, not sure if you're familiar with the weather in both countries, but Spain has a bit of an advantage. I wouldn't expect any player from a sunny country to stay in England too long. If they do, it's rare. Fabragas will be on his way at some point as well, everyone expects it.
