It's a shame he feels this way - and it reflects very badly

on Ronaldo as a person.

Why wouldn't United fans be upset?

The real issue here is the correct way to go about things, not the fact that it is his ambition to play for Real.

Ronaldo hasn't gone about anything in this matter the right way - Sir Alex and everybody at United as well as the fans realise that players like Ronaldo aren't going to be content to stay in England, especially when his family's dream has been for him to play at Real.

The issue is the blatant come and get me tarty behaviour with Real and its agents, the game-playing with the club that made him the superstar he is, and his absolute lack of anything approaching respect for the manager who stood by him in every matter and the metaphorical finger he has given to Sir Alex and his team mates who have been nothing but supportive and loyal.

If he hadn't signed a new, improved contract fairly recently and United had thwarted him in any way then maybe a bit of his carrying on would be understandable. If he was around 26 then it would be more understandable.

But he has time on his side, United has done everything to help him realise his enormous talent in aiding his genuine development as a player and helped him achieve the success he has enjoyed.

I know that person in Spain or Portugal or wherever who slagged him and his family off as being low-brow was jealous, but in the context of his complete lack of class throughout this matter yes, Ronaldo does look ignorant and scummy.

He reminds me of Nicolas Anelka who likewise has little concept that being a moneyed professional footballer doesn't mean you act as if you owe absolutely nothing to anybody. Anelka and Ronaldo lack class in this respect -they look ignorant in the way they handle their relationships with their clubs. Ronaldo is worse because Anelka has never had the United experience of total support.

Sorry to say it but Ronaldo is a bit of a scumbag.

Honestly I don't know mate. I have yet to come to terms to the fact that Ronaldo may end up leaving. In my opinion we should not keep a player who is unhappy. It will only disrupt the side. There again if SAF wants him to stay at OT then so be it.

I believe that a good compromise is to ask for a fee + one or two players that may be able to limit the negative impact of such departure. There is no point in trying to break the record fee since much of it will be in installments.

There is an example of this situation. We wanted Hargreaves and the player wanted to come to us. Hargo stated on summer 2006 that he wanted to come but Bayern didnt sell so we didnt get him and never got another player for that position even risking not buying him in the end.

Well Bayern expected an entire season to plan on who would replace the lad cause they knew they have lost him anyway. Thats the way i see this.
We may know that we have lost the lad but can still keep him for another season and plan better how to cope without him and the players to solve the big gap Ronaldo will leave. Remember its up to the club when to sell and the right time to do it.

So, if he doesn't know if he wants to move to Real, why speak to Sir about reaching a decision? Either way really, the lad is a tremendous player, but he's got absolutely no class.
Ronaldo close to future decision

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted very strongly he is looking to leave the European champions for Real Madrid this summer.

The 23-year-old, following Portugal's 3-2 defeat to Germany in the quarter-finals of Euro 2008, spoke about his club future.

"In two or three days time I will announce my future because the tournament is over for me," he said in Portuguese after the game.

"I will speak to Manchester United.

"I will try to reach an agreement and we will see."

Ronaldo helped fire United to a Premier League and Champions League double this season.

When asked if he has made a decision regarding a move to Real Madrid, he replied: "No, not yet."

The winger, one of the world's top players, is still under contract with the Red Devils but Spanish champions Real have been in hot pursuit of him since the end of the season.

Ronaldo also revealed he was now due to have an operation to rectify a foot injury.

"I am now going to be able to have surgery - it is now three months I have played with this little foot problem," he told L'Equipe.

"I am going to try to make the most of my convalescence to return at 100%."

You do have a point but there again what had Bayern achieved during that year? Nothing. Its hard to work with a team that is divided.

Cantona was probably the most influential player we had ever had. He left and two years later we won the treble

Keano had similar influence. The season after he left we won the League.

Not to forget when we sold Hughes, Ince and Kanchelskis.

Id rather see us implement a new system with players who are truly committed rather then having divisions within the team. If Ronaldo truly wants out then I cant imagine what would be the reaction of players like Gaz, Giggs, Rooney and Scholes towards him.

I agree, and it would be a big ask to have the new players and new playing style in place by the beginning of the season. We need to hold on to him for another year.

He's angling for a move. If he doesn't go this Summer, he'll make it extremely difficult for us to keep a hold of him next. Under those circumstances, Real will have us over a barrel 12 months from now. Add to that the fact that he's unlikely to have as prolific a season as 2007-2008 (42 goals was superhuman) and his value is only ever going to down. If selling him now will get us an extra £10-15m it'll be worth it I reckon.

Of course, this all assumes a lot of things, but if you were a betting a man I think it'd be better to get the rebuilding underway now, with an extra bit of cash to play around with.

I understand where you're coming from with regard to an extra season of Ronaldo, but if he wants to go I think getting rid right now would be best in the long term.

So, if he doesn't know if he wants to move to Real, why speak to Sir about reaching a decision? Either way really, the lad is a tremendous player, but he's got absolutely no class.

This isn't exactly news. Everything he has done has been for personal glory, even though he does praise the team in interviews, he is fairly selfish and that attributes to his success as well.

I think people could be overestimating his contribution. Sure 42 goals is nothing to sneeze at, but hasn't anyone else noticed that the team is starting to become reliant on his scoring? Look at the team in '99, everyone scored and there wasn't really a standout contributor. I just feel that if Ronaldo leaves, if he is properly replaced then it would lift the entire team because as it is now, we sometimes look a bit of a 1 man team and we struggle if he's marked out of the game.

if ronnie does put in a transfer demand and real suddenly refuse to pay 80 and offer only 40-50 then we're fecked, cause if he stayed nobody would like him and if he went for that much we would be the laughing stock.

feck him...he could never realise what playing for United means when his boyhood dream is real...bugger off and thanks for the memories..hope the cruciate goes in the first season there and Real continue to get knocked out the CL early...

"The possibilities are great but as you've all seen it doesn't depend on me," he said. "In the next few days, we will see if we can arrive at an agreement. I have many desires and in the next days, they will become clear."

Is what the lad said. Call me naive but me thinks this indicates he is still to decided what he will do. Plus that he will be happy with staying or going

It was all over the Italian media and I believe that even Zidane ended up confirming it.

There again Real are shrewd enough not to leave proof of what they did. A player may have been quoted wrongly etc. After all there is little proof that they tried to tap Ronaldo either

It is true.

Florentino passed him a piece of paper during dinner at the gala.

Really are a cheap club then.

One a sidenote, wasn't Balague the one who said we'd signed Torres 2 seasons ago?

He's still posturing for a better contract, that's all there is to it. :smirk:

He's off.

I can't see Fergie putting out another team with Ronaldo in it after this bullshit. So he either sits in the stand or buggers off to join Vanpissnoodle. The question is who replaces him ? Get some Germans in, they don't miss penalties.

Schweinsteiger was awesome yesterday

Presumably all will be revealed shortly. On balance and reading between the lines, it seems Ronaldo almost certainly wants to go to Madrid. Whether this is merely because he has always wanted to play for them or whether he wants more money commensurate with his best player in the world tag, is what is open to question. If he now comes out and says he wants a move, we would be wrong to keep him against his will, unless of course its purely about money and United agree to upping his remuneration but I doubt that. Alternatively, Madrid will have to come up with some serious cash - minimum 60m which will enable us to get suitable replacements. A problem arises if Madrid can't come up with the money - then Ronaldo stays even though he will have lost a lot of popularity amongst the fans. If he goes and Madird cough up, another issue arises in United being able to find suitable replacements - none of Messi, Benzema, Huntelaar and Berbatov will be cheap even if they are available, which is probably the more important issue. It will indeed be difficult for United to gain out of this.

United are a one man team with Ronaldo in it

Ronaldo's overrated

He's a diver

He's a cheat

He's Eboue

I just thought I'd get them out of the way now.

Can't believe so many fans turn on a player:(. Afterall, he hadn't yet expressed his desire yet, eventhough if he leaves i wouldn't have the thought of turning on a player i adore so much.

I think he'll stay, but I don't like the way hes gone about his business, all this for a new contract when he already has a great one that lasts another 4 years, its ridiculous.

I reckon he's playing a dangerous game. Flirting with both clubs, really. I think it's all about the money.

Its all about the benjamins.

He'll have a talk with Sir Alex and the club, he'll get his new 150,000 a week contract, and then he'll sign it.

With his recent comments I think its clear he wants to leave. All the talk of "its not up to me" is about covering his back in case an agreement can't made with Madrid and he has to come back to Manchester and play.

Hopefully this will be sorted out over the weekend (although I suspect it will drag over the coming weeks/months) and we can identify players to come in and move on.

i agree, even if he stays i will have lost a lot of respect for him after this debacle, its not like he is poorly paid as it is.

you "adore"????????

all this speculation aside (and he obviously wants to go) although I've admired his speed and skill, I've never taken to him in the way I did many players that we'd brought in. Apart from the diving, the way he sits there with a face like the proverbial slapped arse when he doesn't get the ref's sympathy makes me squirm.

"Adore"???? you must be a bit misguided, (to be kind)

He's not really flirting with both clubs. More like he's ignoring United's emails and blanking us in the street, while laughing at all Real's jokes and suggestively sucking on twizzler in their direction.

I'm just disappointed with his role in the whole fiasco. He hasn't helped the situation one iota.

It'll be interesting to see fans reaction and feelings towards him if he does stay, which I might add I hope he does.

Seems like he wants to move. Is fine by me if Real pay enough.

Yesterday, I was at the game and didnt really cheer for him, but much more so for Nani.
All will write us off again, it will be the "who will score the goals" predictions again but I'm sure others will step up and perform and we will be ready for next season, with or without Ronaldo.
If that interview is genuine, it seems like he would like to move. Would be a shame to lose the best players to a scum team like Madrid.

i really hate brittish people!!!
first he is a god and a hero and now(when he alone won the double) they talk shit about him...because he wants to leave the club....he said he wants to play for madrid one day cause it is his favorite club....he has a right to have an opinion...in the end he cant sell himself...the club will do that...so i dont know why are everybody talking shit...they should be thankfull and should feel lucky that a player like ronaldo even set foot in premiership and man utd

Zidane's approach was even more outrageous that Ronaldo's. It happened during the Fifa best player of the year event. A small paper was delivered to Zidane asking him whether he is ready to leave Juventus for Real and to do a signal with his head if it was a yes. Zidane signalled yes and the negotiations started with Zidane rattling the right chains when needed.

This story leaked during negotiations but Juventus preferred not to take action since 45m for a nearly 30 yr old was a great sum.
Spot on

Let him go, this whole thing is boring now. No player is bigger the the club, if he goes we'll handle it, we have so much other talent in the team not to, on top of a shed-load of extra cash to spend.

And for those saying he is a legend, please go away.

Reporter: Cristiano, can we talk?
CR: We all are sad, we really wanted to win..we lost in 2 plays due a corner and freekick...football is like that.
It's sad because we are better than them, that we practiced the whole week that we could make a different in these
kind of plays (corners, freekicks) but we couldn't stop them and that's why i think we are better and people think
Portugal is really better but the final result is that Germany won and went trough the semifinals.
We had more chances but two chances they had we lost it.

Of course we wanted to win it but i think it was a good competition, i know if we had won this game we were just one
stop from the final but the moment wasn't good...Portugal lost and what counts more in football is the final result
and not good exhibitions.

Reporter: did you expect more from yourself, cristiano?
CR: No...im satisfied with what i did but of course i wanted to give more but now i have to rest well and
everything is fine.

Reporter: how is the other players now?
CR: of course we are all sad...we knew we could have won it..it was our mistakes and that's why we are disappointed.

The message i can give to the fans is thank you for supporting us till this last game and that's it.

Reporter: how disappointed are you to lose this game cause of a header goal, corner and freekick?
CR: yes i am and more because Scolari wasted a big time talking about these kind of plays and whoch player should
follow each german player... i thought our players were confident but that's not what happened, Germany won cause
of this kind of plays that we were worried.

Reporter: The Euro is over now, is it today you are going to tell about your future?
CR:No...now i want to talk about the game, what i did wrong but in the next few days i'll say more about my future

Possibilities are big (to go to Real Madrid) but it doesn't deppend on me and i don't want to talk about this anymore.

Reporter: is there any contact with you from real madrid?
CR: i think so, i don't know. in the next days we'll see and we'll get to a deal

Reporter: but what do you want?
CR: i want many things but in the next days you all will have news

Reporter: in you last press conference in Neuchatel, you talked in spanish..did you know how to speak already?
CR: i knew spanish already

Reporter: already for the future?
CR: i always practice not only spanish but also english and french

Reporter: having scolari as your opponent, how is it gonna be?
CR: he'll be my opponent...he'll want to beat me and i'll want to beat him but he's my friend.

Reporter asks about real madrid again
CR: i won't talk about this anymore...that's it...

END OF INTERVIEW
