We have to accept the fact that he wants to go. That's beyond a doubt now. There was no "I stay" today.
Whether United let him go is now the question.

We have always known that he wanted to play in Spain at some point and his statement today was hardly hinting at him putting in a transfer request. I'd guess that he wouldn't mind staying that badly if he got a better contract even if he might prefer to move.

Could be wrong mind since there is still nowt much to go on.

I don't see how his latest round of contract where he says he'll speak to united and see has been intepreted as the biggest hint yet that he wants to go to real. The press are idiots. It could just mean he's going to discuss a new contract with united.

Oh and on a side note, if ronaldo does go does anyone else think that nani on the right and ben arfa on the left might be good for us? I was watching replays of us against lyon in the second leg of the champions league and ben arfa looked like he had huge potential that only needs to be properly natured.

The reporter on Sky Sports who interviewed him had no doubt in his mind at all what Ronaldo had meant. He said the only thing he didn't say was that "I am going to Real Madrid". Surely these guys could read the vibes coming from him.
As I keep saying he wants to go.
Whether United let him go is the next chapter. 2 or 3 days to the next chapter.

There's not doubt that the greedy bugger wants to go, I hope we can get as much - 80 Mil minimum - for him. I bet he won't be able to replicate his form with them, too many big egos in the Real squad ... they are going to implode for sure.

Ronaldo is starting to get on my last nerve. Who the feck does he think he is. No one is bigger than the club and he can make life alot easier for everyone if he either fecks off to Madrid or stays at United. This is unproffessional and its a stab in the back for Fergie who's taken him under his wing. United is the reason he's the player he is today and he should atleast handle the situation better. He'd be a feckin' idiot if he goes to Madrid. He's had huge success in his footballing career here at United and to take a gamble on that with Madrid is ludacris. Van Nistelrooy, Robben, Heinze to name a few haven't exactly lit up footballing world after moves to Madrid so why he's contemplating going down that road is beyond me.

speaking of figo, anyone remember the euro finals (I think it was the finals or was it the semis) when the fan ran onto the pitch and threw the barca shirt at Figo before being tackled down?

So which one of us is willing to make the trip to Madrid and make a naked flying tackle at Ron ?

I still think he hasn't decided yet. Hopefully he speaks to SAF soon who convinces him to stay and also gives him a deserved bollocking for this whole saga.

But I've a feeling this whole thing is going to drag on till the first game of the season and everytime there's a transfer window.

We all know how reporters and tabloids work. They sell stories(even if untrue) just to make revenue. I'm sure they'll sell more with a headline like 'Ronaldo gives biggest hint yet he wants to move to real' instead of 'Ronaldo to open discussions with united over contract'.

Yeah absoultely, if he stays, which is next to impossible right now, its only going to bring negative energy in the dressing room because it is clear that his heart is bent on playing for Real. I'd rather have him leave early so that we can leave this ugly saga behind us - get our new players in - and start the season afresh with new hope.

There is little need to even mention that United will go on regardless, or that we have profited enormously from the original signing of Ronaldo. Quite how some people go from there, to the position that we should simply take it all on the chin remains a mystery to me, if I'm honest. I can't work out whether some United fans are playing the woefully outdated "big man", or if they simply haven't thought this through.

I am under no illusions concerning the commercial direction that football has taken, but that doesn't change the fact that football, and sport in general — for the fans, at least — is not equatable to the local supermarket, and I'm surprised that some fans have swallowed that line of reasoning without considering exactly what the differences are. Also, contracts are clearly not worth the paper that they are written on, but I have no doubt that if you surveyed footballers, the vast majority would be absolutely opposed to the abolition of contracts, and for good reason. It is simply a false equivocation to compare football with 'ordinary' business practice, even if there are numerous similarities. There is quite a difference between acknowledging reality, and accepting that it is preferable, or even, dare I say, ethical.

And It doesn't matter how much we sell Ronaldo for, we are still likely to lose out on hundreds of millions, potentially, which Real will inevitably profit from. They know exactly how much he is worth to them, which is why they have moved for him now. The very fact that Ronaldo wants to leave United is likely to have repercussions far beyond the field of play, and beyond that which even the owners of the club are probably aware of. It will literally affect every aspect of the club, and that is a pretty big deal.

I also find the suggestion that Ronaldo has acted with perfect grace to be frankly bizarre, not to mention irresponsible. Since when did "football fan" become a synonym for "credulous"? Is it any wonder that football is becoming more and more detached from reality?

Thing is this isn't to sell papers. Sky is TV. The reporter interviewed Ronaldo. He is absolutely sure. I listened to him being interviewed on Sky. There was no doubt or maybe in his voice.
It's up to United now. We're just observers.

Can I remind you of this interview after their defeat? I know it was post above but let me extract some of them and please read carefully. Here's:

*************

Guillem Balague: What feeling have you got after the defeat to Germany?

Cristiano Ronaldo: What feeling?

Guillem: The one after being knocked out

Ronaldo: We didn’t expect this. We wanted to continue in the tournament, but we didn’t do enough. We weren’t strong enough

Guillem: The little details were won by Germany. You didn’t seem concentrated enough

Ronaldo: I didn’t do anything wrong. I did what I had to do but the team made mistakes and that is why we lost

Guillem: What now, Ronaldo, we are expecting an announcement

Ronaldo: Lets see in a couple of days. The tournament is over and I am going to reach an agreement
.....
Guillem: If you wanted to stay at Manchester United, why don’t you say it?

Ronaldo: You will soon know what I want. You do know what I want and that is why I don’t want to say anything else. Lets wait. I want to give more details that is why I cannot say much more

Guillem: When will that take place?

Ronaldo: In a couple of days. I am going to give my opinion in two days. I am going to say what I want, but things don’t depend only on me, that is why we have to wait
....
Guillem: Do you have to talk to Ferguson?
....
Ronaldo: I don’t know what I have to say to him. I have to say what I want and what I think.

Guillem: What you have to say, will that upset Ferguson?

Ronaldo: It is my opinion, that is why I don’t mind if people get upset. It is my decision. It is what I want

Guillem: When did you take that decision?

Ronaldo: Some time ago, before the Champions League final

....
Guillem: Do you think it is going to be very difficult to get out of United?

Ronaldo: It is always difficult. It is not only one person deciding, it is many people, but it can be a very good thing for everybody

Guillem: Do you feel what you are about to decide is a step forward in your career, a dream?

Ronaldo: It is a dream, a step forward, you can call it what you want. For me it is a great opportunity, and as Scolari says, that train passes by only once, and we have to take advantage of it

Guillem: Ah, but thats not fair, Scolari is going to be the new Chelsea manager and wants you away from him!

Ronaldo: That is why, he took advantage of his change, that opportunity, and other people have to take advantage of opportunities too.
....
Guillem: Do you think your dream will come true?

Ronaldo: I really hope so, lets see

Ok, let's take it that ronaldo wants to go according to this reporter. However, do you really think fergie will sell him after saying he'll not sell him no matter what? I don't think fergie wants to be made to look like a fool. Ronaldo can say all he wants about how he wants to go, but the bottom line is for now fergie holds the key to the lock and I see no way fergie's going to let ronaldo go. Not until fergie thinks ronaldo can't contribute to united any more. Also ronaldo's mother came out previously stating that her son is staying. Who would you rather believe? The reporters, the tabloids, fergie or ronaldo's mother(ronaldo is a well known mama's boy). Granted ronaldo has not come out to say he's staying, but he hasn't said he wants to go as well.

Exactly what did't you get from this interview (if they are the true words from Ronnie himself??? He has made up his mind before the CL Final!
That's what I keep tellin you all.

He wants to go
United have to make a decision
That's when chapter two begins cos United ain't gonna give in without a fight.

MY THOUGHTS ON RONALDO: EVERYONE SHOULD READ, TAKE NOTE AND AGREE AS THIS IS THE CORRECT OPINION TO HOLD ABOUT CRISTIANO RONALDO IF YOU ARE A MANCHESTER UNITED FAN

I hate Ronaldo right now, but to be honest there is a side to this story that we can all try and see from his point of view.

The guy is from a different culture, grew up with completely different footballers and, most importantly, teams than we did. When he was hopping around the beach in Portugal, who do you think his heroes were? The guys in white just on the other side of the border, or the guys in red over there in the northern part of rainy Britain? You all know the answer.

So of course, his dream will always have been to play for Real Madrid (because apparantly that's what he says). Now this might be the hardest part for everybody to understand, but this is EXACTLY THE SAME as if any of us were top notch footballers. Our dreams would always have been to play for Manchester United if we ever had the chance.

Just think about that, if you ever got the chance to play for Manchester United, would you? And wouldn't you prefer OUR club over any other club in the world?

The truth is if he wants to go, we should just milk Real Madrid for as much as we possibly can, and let him go. And for the sake of something holy, please stop feeling betrayed. Sure, we (as in, the club) might have had some part in making him the world's best footballer, but ultimately its his talent to waste as he pleases. We should just be happy with that we got two full seasons with a player that was inarguably the best player in the world during those two seasons.

We are also in the fortunate position that we can all just sit back, relax and know that even losing Cristiano Ronaldo can't take away from the fact that we're the best fecking football club in the whole wide world, and we'll be for years to come! And we can even smile and laugh at Ronaldo for wasting the opportunity to become a true legend at the biggest club in the world.

If he goes he'll be nothing more than a great player who played at our club, and despite all his talent and skill his name will never be worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence as the true heroes of our club, such as Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Bobby Charlton, Duncan Edwards and many others who'll live on forever, ironically enough including one little babyfaced Norewegian who started his United career as a Liverpool-fan but went on to love everything about our club.

That's who Ronaldo should go to for advice.

On a side note, I am not giving up on our boy Ronaldo yet. I'm just not spending any time worrying about him either, because like I said, with our without him, we'll still be the greatest club in the world.

Ok, let's take it that ronaldo wants to go according to this reporter. However, do you really think fergie will sell him after saying he'll not sell him no matter what? His goldfish says he's going. That's good enough for me.
And you're looking too far ahead. Chapter two begins in 2 or 3 days.
I don't know what United (not just Fergie) will do. The plot thickens.

. Granted ronaldo has not come out to say he's staying, but he hasn't said he wants to go as well.

If he doesn't want to go, why would he have said the following when asked: (what decision do you think he was referring to?)

*********
Guillem: Do you have to talk to Ferguson?
....
Ronaldo: I don’t know what I have to say to him. I have to say what I want and what I think.

Ronaldo: Some time ago, before the Champions League final

Right. Except for the time you didn't mark your man and he scored that goal. Other than that...no mistakes.

Guillem: When did you take that decision?

Ronaldo: Some time ago, before the Champions League final

Guillem: When did you decide to demand more money or claim you would leave?

Ronaldo: Some time ago, before the Champions League final.

I have virtually no doubts now, Ronaldo does want to go but is reluctant to force the move. Most likely under advice from his agent. If he wanted to stay, he wouldn't keep delaying like this and saying that "it's not up to him"..... if he wants to stay, or even if he wanted a new contract, he wouldn't talk like this.

Yes it would be a big blow, yes he is the best player in the world and all, but with the huge transfer fee I think we can cope. If we buy one or two great talents to replace him who are better team players, it could bring out the best in Rooney even.

Its going to be hard on all United fans if he goes and it really is disappointing but like a previous poster mentioned, its Ronaldo's dream to play for Real Madrid.
What i don't like is the unnecessary media drama surrouding it.

That would have to be some serious talent my fwend. Not to mention the whole United style of play will have to altered. Who in gods green earth will be able to slot straight in. I can't think of any names out there who could.
