Barring retirement, Raul will never leave Madrid, and Madrid will never get rid of him.

He runs the club even more so than any of their managers in the last decade.

The only other 'big' club ('big' defined as very successful in the last 5-10 years rather than having an actual history and fan base) that has this sort of situation to such an extreme is Chelsea with John Teary.

The difference between Raul and Missed 'er John Terry is that Raul oozes class and respects his opponents and teammates. John Terry is a self-absorbed git with delusions of grandeur.

I'd want him to win it to rise his price but now that scolari is chelsea's manager, I don't want them to win feck all. Plus, if portugal go out sooner, the ronaldo news will come to us sooner about him leaving or staying.

If it comes to Portugal winning it, I hope Ronaldo dives in the box to get Casillas sent off and score the penalty to win 1-0. He can then join Madrid for 100million

A Portuguese journalist was on Talksport this morning breaking the exclusive news that "Ronaldo won't say it, but he does want out".

They've been running with this "exclusive" all day as their leading sports headline every half hour.

Cue madcap hyperventilating and teenage angst from the usual suspects (you know who you are) with this new definitive confirmation.

That was the rumour - they were supposed to be preparing an uber-deal for him with a big time range of CR7 products. That's his new signature and his trademark, so he's been doing some marketing of it already (he had a CR7 hat on the other day when he was being interviewed).

Nike wants to turn it into a mega-brand like they did with US basketballer Michael Jordan in the 1990s, with their Air Jordan shoes and their TMed Jordan 23 logo.

Dildo-face knows he's gone so far that he will HAVE to sign Ronaldo or he will have to resign. He's trying to dial it back a notch to save his own power base.

Yes, he was. This actually was a problem when he was playing for United, as United and Umbro/Nike had the rights to marketing his image in United kits, but Adidas had the rights to marketing his image alone.

Since his switch to Real, the marketing campaign has skyrocketed internationally because he was at an adidas club so he was exclusively wearing adidas products at all times.

Good luck with that.

I'll go in on that bet as well.

Viva Ronaldo!

They wouldn't. He's worth a lot more to the club than any transfer fee with his imaging rights (which we currently largely control and is part of his negotiations with the club - he signed them away when he was a bit-part teenager).

They want him for marketing reasons. We want him for footballing reasons.

If he wants to be a product, Real is the place to go.

If he wants to be a footballer, United is the place to stay.

I'm pretty confident all of this is overexaggerated bullshit spurred on by both his negotiations for image rights and a pay raise as well as his gigantic ego, and he will stay a footballer.

Viva Ronaldo!

Jason, yo de man!

To be honest I've now concluded this is actually the case. This of course doesn't mean he'll be leaving.

They can have him for £500m then. Plus Robinho and Ramos. Oh and Sneijder.

They post more sensibly than American moderators?

They've definitely dug themselves an huge hole with all of this huge money talk to try to unsettle him. Calderon has put his club in an absolutely miserable bargaining position, one which he created but when he fails to get Ronaldo he will try to spin it as an exercise in fiscal responsibility to make sure he doesn't get axed in the upcoming elections.

I actually think their big money talk has guaranteed that they won't be able to get him - we'll ask for a ridiculous fee that they cannot pay - and we'll want it all upfront. That way we can tell Ronaldo (IF he really does wan to go) that it isn't our fault and they didn't live up to their promises. That might keep him put and happy(ish) for a couple of years - CONTINGENT ON THE IDEA THAT HE REALLY WANTS OUT.

I think he just wants wads of cash and is using the situations to try to get what he wants. If Real really will pay him triple his wage at United, then he will be very likely to want to go unless this CR7 thing gets going and Nike makes clear it will only happen if he's with a Nike club.

I also think a big part of this is Ronaldo being a bit of an egomaniac and loving the attention. He's done it before. For all of his amazing talent, his young success has massively gone to his head and he is madly in love with himself.

Yesterday he did say he loves the United fans and gets very excited when we sing his name. I appreciated it even if most of you didn't.

Oh, and for the record I am about 15 miles or less from the heart of United's major decision making team.

Beat that, you OOT bastard!

PS. Viva Ronaldo!

I hope you're right Jason, I hope you're right. As for real madrid, you're right, they only care about marketing and they don't give two fecks about the football. And for that if he is to go they should be milked for everything. With that being said, I still maintain what I said at the start of all this he will stay a united player next season and I thought he would be here until Fergie leaves but now I'm leaning towards him being gone at the end of next season rather than this summer. However, if we manage to win the lot again next season, it could persuade him to stay again and hopefully see out the rest of his career at united or waiting until he's 29-30 and then leaving for madrid.

I'm 4 miles from Old Trafford cuntchops. Get over here much do you, you fecking hugeio top red?

Everyone calm down, Cristiano isnt going anywhere. Why............

Ronaldo isnt officially the worlds greatest player yet. He is a very big attention seeker. What he's doing is fantastic. If Portugal win or lose tonight, it doesnt matter, because every news reporter will only have eyes on interviewing one person..............guess who!

If i was ronaldo, this is what i would do. I would deffinetly get best player in the world OFFICIALLY after all this publicity.

congratulations on your geographical fortune that obviously puts you head and shoulders in loyalty over every red except those that live within 4 miles of OT.

Jasonrh is one of the top posters on here and talks more sense than most. His location does not take away from his opinion or right to express it. when are we goin to give up this tired 'how close are you to OT' bullshit. its schoolyard nonsense. United are a global club and belong to everyone regardless of location or ability to get there every other week

Look, how many more times does this need to be said? You can't have someone 'in the bag' who's contracted to his employers for four more years, and those emplyers have stated more than once that he's not for sale. He's in the bag alright - the one marked 'Property of MUFC'

Technically you are right. Stating that, if a player does want to leave then there is no point in keeping him.

Real = big hat, no cattle

"We would willingly reach an agreement with Manchester United if it is possible, that is to say, if they want to sell and if the price was affordable."

I've said it before in this thread and it's always nice to get some extra ammo - Madrid can talk about "money no object" but actually they need to borrow the money. If the Spanish press are anything like right about the deal they've offered Ron - they'll be paying him the same money that was supposed to pay the bank loan (the shirt sales revenue etc)

"We are waiting for Ronaldo to say something, and as soon as he says he wants to play for Real Madrid there will be conversations between the two clubs," Real's director general of the presidency Miguel Angel Arroyo was quoted as saying in sports daily Marca on Thursday.

So they aren't even going to bother talking to United unless Ron says something so damaging to his relationship with United that it reduces his market value? Or so offensive that SAF or the Glazers give him a speedy, cheap (let's not forget it needs to be cheap) transfer as a reward? Maybe Madrid will offer us a slice of the shirt revenue as well - how many percent are there in a 100%?

Madrid would like him to take the risks - even if it damages his professional reputation - even if it means that next season sees him stuck in the middle of a legal and media catfight when he'd rather be confirming his position at the top of the game.

The alleged comment to that Brasilian journalist the other day said that: if Madrid and United did a deal, Ron was interested in talking to Madrid. Sounds like that might have been exactly the right question. United have said no deal, and Madrid are backing down on their, "we can afford the best," talk.

Interesting times.

SAF "Ronaldo is not for sale."
Gill "Ronaldo is not for sale."
Glazer "Ronaldo is not for sale"

Real "We would willingly reach an agreement with Manchester United if it is possible, that is to say, if they want to sell and if the price was affordable."

Looks like someone needs to tell them in Spanish that "Not for sale" means he is not going anywhere.

Man Utd's Ronaldo already exchanging banter with Chelsea boss Scolari
tribalfootballwithquotes.com - June 19, 2008

Cristiano Ronaldo admits he's already exchanging banter with Luiz Felipe Scolari over their Chelsea, Manchester United rivalry.
He said: "I do not see any embarrassment. I call him rival, but it is fun. I have a great friendship with him. I think everything will go well for him, because he is a great coach and a great man."

Looks like we're going to find out sooner rather than later now

I must be naive.

I thought that if a player was contracted to a club, then neither he, nor the club, could force a move.

Ronaldo has what - two/three years left on his contract with us? Is the big fear that if we keep him now (assuming he wanted to go) he could then get spiteful and sit out the whole contract and then walk away on a free?

And why are Real getting away with what they're doing?

He's contracted to 2012, which in essence means that should be a solid 2yrs without supposedly having to start any new negotiations.

Your not naive...just being logical.

You would think a contract is a legally binding document but with football these days I really have my doubts!
