Ronaldo - I'm undecided
United winger does not know where his future lies

Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that he has made no decision over his future.

Ronaldo has been at the centre of the transfer story of the summer as Real Madrid look to land the world-class Portuguese for a reported record-breaking fee.

The 23-year-old appeared to be leaning towards a move to the Spanish capital after comments he made last Thursday suggested he has already set his sights on a transfer to the Bernabeu.

However, Ronaldo, who is currently representing Portugal at Euro 2008, has admitted he is unsure of where his future lies.

"Still I do not know where I will play," Ronaldo was quoted as saying in Spanish daily Marca.

"I have not yet decided. It will be decided after the European Championships."

Captain's role

Ronaldo continued to add to his already sky-high reputation with an excellent performance in Portugal's 2-0 triumph over Turkey on Saturday as Luiz Felipe Scolari's side opened their Euro 2008 campaign with a win.

The former Sporting Lisbon star was handed the captain's armband in the latter stages of the encounter, and Ronaldo insists he was not intimidated by the responsibility of captaining his country.

"I've been captain many times. (At a major tournament) the responsibility is the same. It's always nice to play with the armband," he added.

Spanish daily Marca...

Does anyone else actually want him to go now?

I seriously do. He's gotten too big for his boots imo and if he doesn't leave this season, it'll the next, or the one after that...

I hate his selfish, 'me-me' attitude. The way, when he scores a goal he goes mental, but when someone else does he just slowly struts towards them. Look at the CL final... everyone's running towards the penalty hero VDS, but Ronaldo drops on the floor in a pile. That's selfish.

Anyways, I truly hope he goes now and that we get some mega bucks for him. I really, really hope we can snatch Benzema and build a team around our other superstar with god-given talents beyond belief, Wayne Rooney.

Nani can be made into something special.

Not me.

And VdS, Giggs and Scholes will retire. And some players will get better and some will get worse. And the big Red United bus will keep rolling on with more or less silverware and more or less moments of magic captured over that time.

And some games he has completely the opposite reaction.
That's human.

There'll always be another player.

But if we can keep Ronaldo we may see the best United team ever and we may be about to see the best United player ever. And if we can have that - I want it.

Ronaldo may apparently be undecided, but I can make the decision for him. Stay with the club that is really going places. The potential of the Manchester United squad is frightening for the opposition and its better to be with us than against us. Ronaldo better knows who the correct side is, and they wear red.

Yep, I noticed that too. At the time, I hoped it was just emotion, but the more I think about it, the more I realize it was his natural instinct, a self centered drama queen.

I would not mind at at if he left. Even if that means we are weakened. A United team equally committed to United are much more important to me than winning trophies but putting up with Ronaldo and all his crap. We've won plenty without him for many years, we'll carry on winning plenty without him.

Give me Rooney anyday.

I would say give him the benefit in this because he missed the penalty that looked like losing us the game so you can understand that when we actually won it, it probably took more out of him. I think it's a fairly natural reaction. Once he regained his composure he mixed with the other guys fine.

I still think if your looking for arrogence you only gotta look at jose when they won the competition, he left the pitch and so everyone was talking about his future rather then porto being cheating champions

Totally agree. Whatever his decision, he seems to be getting too big for his boots and his ego could damage us next season. He tries to say the right things about his team mates but you never get the feeling its totally sincere. He really seems to think he's carried everyone.

Anybody know who is the current no. 7 at Real? He may not like having to change number which would surely happen if Ronaldo joins them.

Raul is as revered to Real as Giggs is to United. What he has achieved for Madrid (650+ appearences, 3 CL wins, 6 La Liga's, 300 odd goals) is nothing short of astonishing and he is still only 30.

Without any doubt, Raul is Real Madrid's most cherished servant and his standing there is as untouchable as Scholes/Giggs/Neville or even maybe SAF himself at United.

There is just no way that would happen, unless Raul himself was willing to make the gesture as an incentive for Ronaldo to join.

... but the lad wants to be paid big time. And Real is dangling a carrot which is pretty hard to refuse.

I definitely don't want to see him becoming the best United player ever, as he is acting like a twat .

Bullshit. You're sounding just like a scouser now. The guy had just at that moment won the motherf*cking Champions League, after himself having missed his penalty. But, yeah, I'm sure the only thing that went through his head at that moment was "Ok, have to make the cameras focus on me!".

He's given us 5 years great service and won everything there is to be won at United. I don't blame him for wanting a fresh challenge. Lets face it Manchester in the winter is a grim place to be for a Sun loving boy.

If we can get 70 million for him and a half decent player (Robinho) I'd be more than happy. Don't get me wrong I don't want him to go but I don't want a player at the club who doesn't want to be there.

He really never should of said he wanted to stay after the CL final.

He should really just stop acting the bollox and give a proper decision. I'm sure he knows exactly what he is doing and exactly where he will be next season.

100% agree with all that.

there is still the Super Cup and the Club World Championship to fill up his trophy cabinets with us.

Not to mention that carrot is in sunny Spain, as opposed to rainy Manchester :smirk:

People's reactions to the current Ronaldo saga breaks down into a few categories, a mixed bag of sorts, each with some truth to it.

There are the people who are offended by Ronaldo's apparent lack of loyalty to the club that undoubtedly took him from a raw Sporting youngster to the world's best player, whether he would have reached the same heights elsewhere is irrelevant... The problem with this point of view is that players do not universally appreciate the contributions of the clubs that helped them develop. If they did, for one, West Ham would be in the top three every year. Ronaldo has never been shy to express his desire to play in Spain, and as wrong as it may seem, he may have been using United as a stepping stone to get there.

There are the people who want him to go ahead and feck off if he can't come out and clarify his feelings on the issue of his transfer. All I can say is, REMEMBER RIO and how far he's come since his transfer saga. So far, in fact, that people are calling for him to be the next captain... The point I want to make is that this Ronaldo situation has been blown tremendously out of proportion by the media and the fans reaction to the stories. I choose not to believe that this decision for Ronaldo is not as simple as who can splash out the most contract cash. He is being pulled from all directions by people close to him and is considering the what would be the best move for his career and himself, not to mention being relied upon to lead his country in an important international tournament.

One thing that I'm sure of is that he made the right move in making it perfectly clear that he won't be answering any questions about it until after the tournament.

Ronaldo has been with United for five years and has just now reached the heights that we all could see was possible. He seems to realize that Sir Alex and the United coaching staff played a major role in that and deserve some degree of loyalty. He has also formed visible friendships with Nani and Anderson, among others, who have just joined and won't be going anywhere. There are also still things to be won and an emerging core of superstar youngsters that could lead to this United squad to become an unstoppable force both at home and abroad, something that any player would want to be a part of.

It would probably be best to just enjoy the Euros, and try not to get too worked up by media bullshiit.......which is easier said than done

This has obviously been twisted. More likely is that he said that he wasn't going to talk about it until after the Euros. That's what Gill said, that both United and Ronaldo were not going to say anything until after the Euros.

It's looking more and more like money is the root of this. United didn't want to be forced into new negotiations by these tactics and took the hard ground. Mendes said OK we'll play hardball too. And here we are. United need to back down, give him his extra $ (he obviously needs it) and all this will go away. The Nike deal would help. Hope they're working on that as we speak.

dont know if he needs the extra $...but all this is about him getting a much improved contract....double??

How come this is back in the Manchester United forum. Did you take time out from the beach to take this to the high court BahamaRed? :smirk:

Kidnapped mehro's mum till he agreed to put the forum back. She was very co-operative. Actually she revealed that she didn't like mehro either
mehro was unavailable for comment. Apparantly whisked off by some large bird.

and there I thought Ronaldo wanted to play for madrid if conditions were met and that he wouldn't speak about it anymore if he was asked.......:)

Not worried at all

Yeah but the one everyone is on about is straight after we've won the shootout, I haven't seen this interview before.

Sorry if it's a repost :(

There were at least 3 interviews on different networks - they've all been requoted as well - still it doesn't hurt to post the video for people to in the more recent posts.

Spastic.

Another way to look at it is that every genius have their flaws. Best, Cantona, Maradona, Gascoigne...We could just accept this as Ronaldo's flaw and be happy when he scores 40 goals next season.
