ALL Ronaldo's future/comments/speculation

I've been doing the Iberian press trawl again - which is mostly a "nothing to see here" sort of event.

A nice quote from Simao (Atletico Marid :D) at the Portugal press conference - I'll do the translation from Spanish even though the original original might have been in Portuguese:
"Cristiano needs peace and Portugal need Cristiano. Why would he need to leave Manchester if he's enjoying football there? He's got the chance, after the Euros to decide what to do. But I wouldn't recommend that he sign for Real Madrid!"

A couple of interesting articles coming at it from the national team perspective. They claim if he's got doubts about his future, then lettiing himself be talked into a decision now, prior to the Euros, would be a bad move, despite the press feeding frenzy.

The sports psychologists say he's better off leaving it open, and therefore avoiding the "morning after" feeling of panic at making a potentially wrong choice, and that the risk of making the wrong choice is higher because he's under the pressure for Portugal and therefore more likely to overreact to details. He was for example (allegedly) upset about the, "he can rot in the reserves" interpretation of United's response to Madrid. Big surprise there!

This thread has got to be pretty pathetic

His Mum said he's staying... That is the most reliable thing we've heard by far.

Stop posting the same feckin shit every 2 hours... every post is the same

yeah only prob is that after ECL final he said that he doesn't promise anything to anyone... and he specifically said he doesn't promise to his mum...(amongst others he mentioned that at moment slip my mind)

now why did he say that i wonder?!?

Mum knows best, Ronaldo

MUM'S the word for Cristiano Ronaldo as the saga over his United future rumbles on wildly, while the Glazers have denied reports they have spoken to Real Madrid.

Although the Reds' 42-goal double Footballer of the Year has finally vowed to stay silent until after Portugal's Euro 2008 programme, his mother has spoken out.

Ronaldo had been quoted on a Brazilian website saying, "I would like to play for Real Madrid - but only if it is true they are ready to pay what Manchester United ask of them. However, it does not depend on me."

Having given the Spaniards that fresh encouragement, he vowed to stay tight-lipped on the subject until after the European Championships.

But his mum, Dolores Aveiro, has indicated her son will still be at the Euro and Premiership champions next season.

"He is fine where he is," she told Portuguese TV. Only God knows the future, but it is certain that he will continue in Manchester."

In the will-he, won't-he battle of quotes - these represent encouraging words for United as they attempt to cling on to their 23-year-old ace.

Madrid are Ronaldo's mum's No 1 side and she said earlier in the year: "They are my favourite team, the best in the world.

"If one day Cristiano were to leave England then I would really like to see him go to Madrid. I would not like to die without seeing my son playing there, then I could go knowing that my dream was fulfilled."

But for the moment she believes her dream is in the future.

Reports have now suggested that Real have been conducting talks with the Glazers direct and have gone behind the backs of chief executive David Gill and manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

But that suggestion has enraged the American owners as they back the battle to keep Ronaldo at Old Trafford.

Refute

“The family categorically refute the reports that they are talking to Real,” a Glazer spokesman told M.E.N. Sport.

“The Glazers are not at all engaged with Real Madrid. Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale.”

Earlier, Real had got in their daily quote on the subject with president Ramon Calderon telling Spanish newspapers: “For our club it is an honour to know that a player like him thinks that playing at Real Madrid would be good.

“We are proud to know that he would like to be with us.”

Portuguese coach Luiz Felipe Scolari later side-stepped talk that he had unsettled Ronaldo by advising him to move to the Bernabeu.

Asked if such advice showed a lack of respect for Ferguson, Scolari said: "It's not a lack of respect.

"Your question is disrespectful. You must be sure if I said it or not. You're supposing I said it, or you read it somewhere and then you imagine I said it.

"If you don't know, then you cannot make this kind of allegation. You should not be making this kind of allegation to me. You don't know it for sure."

Meanwhile, sports lawyer Mel Goldberg believes United would have a good case if they did decide to take their objections to world football's governing body FIFA.

But predicts that, even if the Spanish giants were found guilty of breaking the rules, any punishment would be minimal and the Spaniards would get their man.

Goldberg said: “If Real Madrid are reported to FIFA, they will probably only get a rap on the knuckles.

“I don't know whether Real Madrid would be expelled from for example, the European Cup or whether they would be deducted points in the league.

“What FIFA would probably say is you cannot keep a player against his will if he is not happy and wants to go elsewhere.

“They would probably get a minor rap on the knuckles but the deal would go through as FIFA would say you can't keep a player against his will.”

I bet it all depends on Fergie's final decision. As long as he wants to keep Ronny, that's the end of the story.

Yeah I don't think Ronnie will go as far as to hand in a transfer request and try to force his way out. They will have a chat and hopefully it's productive. Ronnie respects SAF very much, much more than we realize imo.

that annoying newspaper :Marca, hope someone targets their computers with virus or something that keeps them shut till August.

as i said on one of the other threads. if we have to sell and he really is being a twat, then lets do a Heinze and insist on a anyone but Madrid policy. Maybe Barca would give us Ronaldinho plus 50/60m

Ronaldinho would give us some quality and would buy us time to buy in a more long ter replacement

It'd certainly be useful to get some other teams in th mix in terms of driving the price up and Barca, i guess would be the only others who he'd be interested in...

I think it's more likely that he jumps from the balcony when he opens the door and notices that it is a angry old scot with a red face that had to cancel his only holiday this year.

This is not a mute point, Ronaoldo entered OT aged just 18 and just another talented player. Sure he has made it to the big time and his self confidence will have been transformed. But SAF will have a huge hold on him, know his character and personality inside out and Im convinced SAF has a hold over him. His magic words after his incident involving Rooney and the 'wink' in the WC 2 years ago which kept him at the club.

He does not want to cross SAF nor feck him over. Every player who has ever done so, has spent his life repenting - take Beckham as an example.

Likewise, SAFs legendary motivativational skills to keep Cantona when all avenues seemed blocked, to protect Beckham after his own World cup nightmare ... the list goes on and on.

Who is this "God" guy, someone who can get in touch with him? Seems like most portuguese peeps trust that source.

Breaking News;

Ramon Calderon, the controversial and embattled President of Spanish giants Real Madrid, has let it be known through local daily 'Marca' that after protracted behind the scenes negotiations the club are set to announce the successful acquisition of well-known cosmological football-phenomenon God, in a deal said to be worth almost two fifths of global GDP. Questioned as to how the money would be raised, Calderon replied that he had, through the good offices of Spain's Ministro de Asuntos Exteriores, Miguel Angel Moratinos, persuaded The Papal Nuncio to make representations to Pope Benedict XVI explaining that only by successfully landing God at The Bernabau might the souls of all practicing-footballers be certain of salvation. 'If Real Madrid fail to win the Champion's League next season' explained Calderon, 'there is a real danger that many souls will be lost to The (Red) Devils.'

Coach Bernd Schuster has apparrently been made aware of God's special requirements, including training in the art of controlling his temper, which has in the past led to entire nations being smitten, causing great wailing and gnashing of teeth, purely because he wasn't awarded exclusive rights to his own image by Jewish first-division side 'The Idolators'.

Calderon went on to say 'I've spoken to the kid, and he told me he has always supported Madrid, and on many occasions has used his influence to shield the club from evil spirits, particularly those from the diabolical region known as Govan. Hopefully this will put an end to all the snide rumours and unhelpful gossip calling for my resignation.'

Is this a joke? Because, 2/5 of Global GDP; now that's insane.

IMO Mendes is a very bad agent. The tactics he is using has alienated just about every Man Utd fan and if he does go, no way will we buy Ronaldos book when it comes out. Nor will we buy our kids Real shirts as we did when Beckham went.

A clever agent would advise his client to keep his existing fanbase sweet by saying something like 'I've had a great time here etc etc but I feel I need to play in another country to develop further'. No-one could argue with that and we would still feel positive towards him in the future.

But the way they have treated the club and supporters is shameful and I dont think I can forgive him.

Good point - these past 2 weeks have certainly changed the way I feel towards him. Not bothered if he stays or goes now. Really am not. Which is a shame as he managed to convert me this season that he should be revered by the OT faithful.

What has he actually done to change your mind? He has four years left on his contract the only direct quote we have is him saying he will stay. Also he is away with his international team trying to concentrate on a massive tournament I think that more than explains him not saying anything else. I **** people should cool it a bit with working how how the feel about him now as there is very little difference between now and the european cup final in that he still until proven other wise wants to stay here next season and obviously his dream as then is to play in Spain at some time in the future.

I love it when Mehro comes over all butch.

Although Marcos loves it more and in a different way.

Probably.

Real Madrid sign God; Update;

Madrid 1407 GMT;

Speaking from the Santa Cruz Palace this afternoon, Spain’s Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos has denied any involvement in the astounding revelations emanating from the Bernabeu earlier today, in which Ramon Calderon implied that Moratinos worked behind the scenes in helping Real Madrid to sign Cosmological super star God in a deal reported to be worth nearly two fifths of global GDP. ‘The Spanish Government does not involve itself in matters of this kind’ declared Moratinos ‘not since the days of General Franco, when Real’s opponents would receive a visit to their dressing room prior to kick off by the Generalisimo, explaining that he knew where their families lived, has it been the overt policy of the Spanish State to support Real.’

Meanwhile, in a separate development, scores of armed security lorries have been seen arriving at the Bernabeu, each fully laden with gold bullion stamped ‘característica del gobierno español’. Unconfirmed reports emanating from Marca’s Headquarters at Paseo de la Castellana suggest that God’s mother, Maria Dolores Aveiro dos Christos, interviewed whilst on a promotional visit to French resort Lourdes, made it clear that whilst her son had, in fact, always maintained that the club were ‘his chosen people’ on account of their association with his brother Santiago, he had no immediate plans to descend to them at present. ‘He has always said that ever since his assumption into ‘el teatro del suenos’, he has felt that his true work lies there, amidst the Glory and the community of Saints dwelling on earth.’ This, theological sources explain, is thought to be a reference to a famous stadium in the English City of Manchester, known to be frequented by numerous saints and demi-gods.

Gary Neville's on ITV's pannel for the Portugal game as I type. It'll be interesting to hear what (if anything) he has to say about the whole Ronaldo situation.

Neville's basically said that he thinks it's all a load of fuss about nothing, brought about by dodgy quotes from "dodgy Brazilian websites and journalists" () and he expects him to be at United next season.

Heh, can someone please photoshop an arse onto somebody's face?
Glad I can be of help.

RTE panel on Ronaldo.

Very biased pre-match analysis of the lad. They were basically saying he has to perform in the big club tournaments(which he has), and also in international tournaments(ditto), before he can be considered a great player. Dunphy used the example of Kaka being brilliant in the previous European campaign, with goals in big games etc. It seems to have escaped his notice that that is exactly what Ronaldo did this season. They also sought to distinguish the CL Final by saying it is only one game. How it can be considered fair that every time he plays well, it is "only one game", and when he plays badly "it shows exactly why he isn't a great player" etc.

While I may not be his biggest fan, only the most blinkered of people could say he hasn't been brilliant these last couple of years. It seems his personality precedes him, he polarises opinion more than almost any player I can think of. Whatever his off-field issues, he has been wonderful to watch, of that there can be no doubt.

I usually like the RTE analysis, but this all felt a little like a witc hunt, and along with their analysis of the CL final(Terry was called "one of the great professionals of our time", after missing his peno. Ronaldo was called a bottler for doing the same. Strange that they find someone of such questionable character, as Terry undoubtedly has, more palatable than Ronaldo. You could almost that they had a grudge against him or something.

That's quite relieving.
But still doesn't explain why the cnut doesn't say no i'm staying.:wenger:
