Alexis Sanchez | Udinese: No Deal Yet

Barca went public is all, a sign of weakness. We're still in this hunt!

I know you like to flaunt your muppetness but its quite the opposite in my view.

Barca have pretty much said they want the player. I reckon they are confident of getting him and that he wants to go there otherwise they wouldn't have opened their mouths.

I think this one is dead lads.

if they were confident of getting him, why the drama before they sign him? just get the player since he wants to go to them.

not saying he may not end up with Barca anyway.

But Gill would not be wasting his time if he thought he did not have a fair chance.

That might be Udinese just trying to hike the price?

Not sure.

They can't afford him and are looking to embarrass Udinese in public to try and lower his price?

I won't have much problem losing him to Barcelona as they always had more appeal to Latin players than United and he won't improve them much anyway, losing him to City would be very hard to swallow though.

its just business. they wont be bothered about all the media speculation. Udinese have a price they want. When it is reached, the player will be sold. From what I have read it seems he would prefer Barca but he wont mind coming here either.

the common consensus is that Barca cant afford both Sanchez and Fabregas. If i was a betting man, i would say Barca would rather move for Fab over Sanchez, due to their long standing interest and being a Barca youth product.

Coming out and publicly courting a player can have a number of effects, one of them being that if they are negotiating for another player (fabregas) and arsenal are playing hardball (which they will) it will signal to Arsenal they might walk away from the table and go for other targets, or deal at a reasonable price. Usually this wouldnt be a problem but i think even Wenger know its time to cash in on under performing player (which Fabregas was most of last season)

cocks out lads

Well i must say I certainly like the philosophy behind this. Playing an entire midfield of defenders like we did against Arsenal in the Cup was never going to work as a viable long term option...I'm glad we've come to the common sense conclusion that an entire midfield of wingers is a much better idea..Onwards and upwards!

don't mean to nitpick but it was actually 3 defenders in a 4 man midfield we played against Arsenal :)

We might not end up with as many wingers as we expect. I think Nani's going to be sold.

There's certainly some jiggery pokery going on in Europe at the moment concerning Sanchez, Sneijder, Modric, Fabregas etc so we'll just have to see who we end up with.

Must have a midfielder coming from somewhere to us.

True, though the other midfielder was Darron Gibson, so he doesn't count.

We did field 7 defenders in that game..I reckon we should try and beat that with wingers. If we could get 8 on the pitch at some point we'd have have an excellent chance of taking at least one good corner next season.

valencia-----CB------CB------Giggs

Nani------Park----Sanchez----Obertan
--------------------Young----------
---------CF---------------------

Even if we sign Sanchez think that could be a struggle, 7 best I can think of unless we start throwing in youth players but Obertan be bad enough

Didnt we play 4 wingers in one game last season, Valencia at RB with Nani ahead of him, Park on the left and Giggs (if you want to still count him as a winger) in the middle.

Thats the future, 7 defenders and 4 wingers.

It's all good, we just need to sign another 2 (one for back up - you can never have enough back up) by the time the season starts.

The future's never looked so bright.

De Gea
Rafael Vidic Ferdinand Evra
Valencia Young Park
Sanchez Rooney Nani

I count 5 wingers in there...That's not nearly enough. We aren't going to catch Barcelona with that attitude.

I suppose Rooney has spent enough big matches stuck on the left wing over the years, although he should surely never have that problem again.

Unless we do sign Sanchez and he really is the new Ronaldo.

Good point. It's all coming together now. It's all making sense. Playing Wayne on the left was just Fergie's foresight..He was playing the long game, turning him into a makeshift winger so so that one day, one glorious day, he could collect enough wingers to field an entire team, plus substitutes, solely out of wingers...That day is coming my friends...An oh how splendid it will be. The opposition won't know what's hit them, but we will. It'll be wingers. Lots and lots of wingers.

I'd like to see Barca try and stop this

 why?

It would be ludicrous to sell Nani unless another club is willing to offer top dollar.

Barca's player plus cash deal wont fly. Bojan and co don't fancy the Serie A. I can't see them getting him.

Chief, how will you see Sanchez to fit into United's puzzle? Care to share your view?
He would be part of rotating that will play behind Hernadez or Berbatov. I see us reverting back to 4-2-3-1. His purchase would also most likely mean Young has been brought as competition/cover for Rooney in the hole.

i.e
United Forwardline:
main:
---Nani----Rooney- Sanchez---

-----------Hernandez/Berba---

alternative:

-----Valencia---Young-----Park---

----------Hernandez/Berba------

Sanchez would give us a wide man with dribbling abilty unlike any other in the EPL, with pace to burn. He'd add a dimension to our attack we haven't had since Giggs young days IMO. Not to mention extra goal threat from wide areas. He'd also increase the depth of quality in our squad by his presence.

I'm hoping we get him.

Oh fantastic, thanks Chief. Blitzkrieg United. So S.A.F. knows what he is doing if this bid turns out to be real. You're right, if Barca wants it on the cheap, Udinese can simply retain Sanchez. Also interesting to see who is to replace Scholesy. Will your formation work in Europe or against Barca?

It seems like we would have plenty of players capable of playing on the wings or in forward positions, i.e. Rooney, Hernandez, Owen, Welbeck, Cleverley, Nani, Park, Valencia, Young, and Sanchez. So that's ten players essentially competing for four positions.

On the other hand, we'll only have Fletcher, Carrick, Anderson, Giggs, and perhaps Jones competing for the central midfield positions. We're not short of numbers here, but I feel we're still missing something here.

I won't be complaining if we manage to nab Sanchez, but I just hope it doesn't come at the expense of signing a midfielder who can pass.

IMO I can't see us not signing a midfielder regardless of what we do upfront and on the wings. We are losing Gibson, Hargreaves and Scholes. Cleverly will most likely replaces Gibson in the middle. Scholes has to be replaced, and it would be wise to bring in back up for Fletcher as Hargreaves replacement.

As long as we sort out the midfield it will because we'd better at keeping the ball. Furthermore if we wanted we can always push Rooney up top, place Scholes replacement in the hole and add Fletcher to Carrick to protect the defence.
