He's a truly exceptional footballer. Would add a level of magic to the attack and fear to the opposition - if United moved for him, my hands would move to my transfer muppet.

Manchester United are closing in on Ashley Young, David De Gea and Phil Jones but they have had bad news on striker Alexis Sanchez.

United, Chelsea and Barcelona will have to pay a stunning £30million to sign the Chilean star - after Udinese slapped a new fee on his head.

The Italian club are willing to sell the attacking midfielder to the highest bidder but slapped the sky-high figure on his head yesterday as the race reached a climax.

Champions United are prepared to pay £25million for Sanchez - seen as the perfect replacement for Paul Scholes - but they are backing off as Udinese raise the bar.

Ferguson has been told there is cash available, but the Old Trafford outfit do not want to pay the full asking price in one of the biggest transfer tussles of the summer.

Chelsea supremo Roman Abramovich has also told Udinese to count him into the bidding, with the Stamford Bridge club renewing their interest after failing to sign Sanchez in the last window.

Even Barcelona are struggling to pay the £30million and have offered three different players - Jeffren, Jonathan Soriano and even Bojan Krkic as potential makeweights.

Sanchez's agents are in Barcelona just now, but they have spoken with United and Chelsea. However Manchester City, who made the early running, have been told the player does not want to join them.

Now three of the super powers of the game are jostling to agree the deal, while the exciting Serie A star waits in his homeland ahead of the Copa America.

Italian sides Inter Milan and Juventus are also keen, but the South American wants to try a new league and experience.

Udinese chief Franco Soldati said: "We have had contact with Manchester United and Manchester City, but at the moment Barcelona have made the best proposal."

Udinese's owner today: "I'm confident Sanchez could stay here for another season. If an irresistible offer doesn't arrive, it means the big clubs aren't willing to pay what he's worth." Trying to push up the price, I guess.

I just dont think £30m for Sanchez is as staggering as that article is making out. That price is normal these days for top players. I'd have thought £30m would be a fantastic deal if someone could get him for that. That's £5m cheaper than Andy Carroll.

So how does the writer make that out then? How is a guy who plays upfront or on the wings a perfect replacement for a guy that plays as a deep lying passer?

I was about to say the same thing. And how many times have we read similar garbage before. I think it is part of their template for getting to print as fast as possible-"________ seen as a perfect replacement for _______"

From the Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson is understood to have made a personal call to Udinese’s Alexis Sanchez to persuade him to join United ahead of Barcelona.

The Chile forward is keen on playing in Spain but Barca are struggling to match Udinese’s £30m valuation with possible makeweight Bojan Krkic keen on joining Roma if he has to leave.

I'd like to see them trying to understand each other over the phone.

£30m eh? really? Sam Wallace was right after all.

Sam Wallace:

Udinese confirm #MUFC bid 4 Alexis Sanchez, figure reported in excess of 30m.

City have set up a meeting with Sanchez' and Udinese's representatives according to this. No mention of United. Perhaps Fergie only talked about how great Manchester's architecture is compared to Barcelona's and forgot to specify which Manchester club he should sign for.

They've already done this have they not and City fecked Udinese over.

But if the lad has already said he'll only leave Udinese for a top club, I'd say City is far from his mind. He'd be better of staying in Italy for another year.

A bit confused how this lad fits in for us. Mind you I haven't seen him play much.

However if he's a wide forward/2nd striker/winger type...AND we're getting ashley young already...certainly it means some high profile attacking talent is leaving this club.

There is no way we'll keep sanchez, young, nani, valencia, berbs, rooney ALL happy.

Rooney is the only dead cert to start...well sanchez will as well with a 30 million quid price tag.

I can't understand how we would actually sign him now that we've bought Young.

Ok he's brilliant but how would we manage them all?

According to reports Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has become personally involved in the hunt to land Udinese star Alexis Sanchez.

The Daily Mail claims Sir Alex has intensified his pursuit of Sanchez, making a personal call to the Chilean ace to try and persuade him to reject Barcelona and instead join United.

The Chile forward is keen on playing in Spain and reports have suggested he has agreed personal terms with Barca.

However, the deal is far from done as it seems the Catalans are struggling to match Udinese's £30 million asking price.

Pep Guardiola is apparently looking to add Bojan Krkic as a possible makeweight in the deal but the Serb appears to want a move to Roma should he leave.

Ferguson is close to Sanchez's agent and remains hopeful of bringing the forward to Old Trafford.

We might have Young on hold and wait what's going to happen with Sanchez

I hear Barca have a transfer budget of £40m this summer, however this money will be used to buy Fabregas this summer, if not then they are likely to spend that on Rossi.

If that is the case then it will make it difficult for Barca to buy Sanchez and if they did where would he play?

The person that would be under threat for a starting place wouldn't be Young, Nani, Valencia or any other winger.

He'd definitely play wide in some games gambit, he still does for Chile.

Not saying he won't but the way we rotate our squad, I'm sure he'll end up through the middle and on the wings depending on the situation.

Valencia-----------Sanchez--------------Young
