Alexis Sanchez | Udinese: No Deal Yet

From the interweb.

"I am happy at Udinese, but I have a burning desire to show that I am a top player."

"Everything that regards the transfer market is down to Udinese, based on what they want and the offers which arrive. I am the last person to ask about these things."

I read there were 12 clubs in for Sanchez with City being quite desperate to land him. If he's a money man he won't be coming to us.

Thing is, he's almost guaranteed CL football at Udinese and for a player of his talent: 1 year of a shit tonne of cash < waiting out and signing for Barcelona, Madrid, Inter, United on a shit tonne of cash. But something still makes me wonder about the while Chilean miners and wine thing at the start of the year.

I highly doubt we will sign two wingers. I don't think we will go for Sanchez this transfer window.

Latest rumours, Barca may be out and looking at alternatives, City have offered €28 million, plus Weiss and will give sanchez £70,000 after tax pw.

Hm...I don't think that would enable us to make further purchases, sadly, given the other deals that are lined up to be finalised.

70k - even after tax - doesn't sound that much compared to other salaries.

I thought that's what you meant, that's not how we do business.

Honestly, we dont know much about how we do business or whats going on behind the scenes. Anyhow, was just a thought that I had since there might be something to these Sanchez rumours and Young not being signed yet

Cheers, Mike. :) Maths was never my strong point..nor indeed was thinking.

Haven't you heard, we're spending hundreds of millions this transfer season.

It's fair to assume based on media reports that the Young deal is effectively done.

Therefore, in order to sign Sanchez instead we would have to tell Young the deal is off.

That's what I meant by that's not how we do business.

From the Daily Fail:

The Chile star, 22, would prefer to play in Spain but Barca have yet to agree a fee and on Sunday night signed another right-sided midfielder, Kiko Femenia from Hercules.

It's been consistently said that he'd prefer to play in England. I guess they just mean he'd rather play in Spain than for City.

I looked up Kiko Femenia, I couldn't find a lot but he looks fast and skillful, I imagine he is cover for Pedro, so now Barca will go for Rossi as cover for Messi and competition for Villa.

I had made peace with my inner muppet over us not getting Sanchez, but if City get him I'll puke. :(

We need to note that Sanchez can primarily play in 2 positions.. On the wings or upfront.. So we need to analyse the number of players in each of those positions to see how likely it is for us to sign him.. Looking at our options.. I honestly cannot see us signing Sanchez... I wish I am wrong..

Options on the wings..

Nani
Valencia
Young
Park
Cleverley
Giggs (Play more centrally)
Obertan (Loan/Sell)
Bebe (Already on loan)

Options upfront

Rooney
Hernandez
Berbatov
Owen
Macheda
Welbeck (Loan)
Diouf (Sell)

So we need to in effect get rid of atleast 3-4 of the above players.. Diouf, Obertan, Welbeck and 1 more..

We could loan Welbeck for another season and have him replace Owen next year when we will surely let Owen leave.. As for Obertan and Bebe. 1 or both of those 2 will have to be sold permanently if all of the wingers are retained.. Giggs may be on his last straw and Park isn't getting any younger but we still have 4 wingers ahead of them if you dont include Giggs and Park.. I can see us getting rid of both (Bebe & Obertan) permanently..

Leaving all the above aside we would still need to get rid of (Sell/Loan) either 1 winger or 1 striker if we indeed do sign Sanchez.. Which imo is very unlikely.. What do you guys think? Berbatov?

The Berbatov selling is stupid. It won't happen unless he forces his way out which I can't see him doing.

Welbeck won't be loaned out this time, he's good enough to play now and I can see him being put ahead of Owen in the pecking order too.

Sanchez is fantastic but he's just not what we need and we won't get him for that price, especially if we're competing with Barca.

I'm not too bothered as to whether Berbatov stays or not tbh, he hasn't ever really lived up to expectations imo.

If keeping him meant not signing Sanchez, personally i would sell him while he still holds some market value. Sanchez is going to be a world beater, with his dribbling ability and pace i think he would be perfect for us.

Damn right man - he's gonna be one of the best players in the world & he's perfectly suited to United. Fergie rates him very highly from what I hear & has supposedly said that he'd make him as good, if not better than Ronnie if he came to us. I hope we can do a deal for him, he's an outstanding footballer. From what i've seen of him at the world cup for Chile & some games i've seen him play with Udinese this season - he's an all-round proper footballer, great passer aswell

I'm very sure city won't get him as every 'top' club is queued up for this lad.

However, I'm a bit more confident that he'll land here. Seems like Fergie really wants the lad. Perhaps a personal touch will help him come here. Better than sending neville to try to entice him. ;-)

Gino Pozzo, the Udinese president, says there has STILL been no official bid for Alexis Sanchez.

Interesting. Yet I don't believe that no one has bid yet - especially with city involved!

A rough translation of the page says they want £50million for him. Not a chance.

Its clear that Pozzo want to make as much money as possible and he s trying to invite city into bidding for Sanchez, even if he probably knows that City is not Sanchez's favourite destination
