Alexis Sanchez | Udinese: No Deal Yet

If United are really interested the money Udinese seem to demand will scare them away. I hate to use the term but it's a value for money thing, £40 million for a young player without any PL/CL experience is a lot of money. That's a sum of money only Real,City and maybe Chelsea could part with if it comes to a quite unproven player. Barca aren't prepared to pay that much just like United. I expect this saga to drag on a few weeks.

£40m in 2011 for a 22 year old with as much talent and promise as Alexis Sanchez is a reasonable asking price.

Get with the times.

Well, guys, in a few hours you can get a look at what we are likely missing out on. Chile take on Paraguay in a friendly warm up to Copa America. It's on ESPN Deportes here, not sure about Europe. I believe kick off is about midnight UK time.

But don't just watch Sanchez. He's not the only Chilean that had a break out year in one of Europe's top leagues. Arturo Vidal of Bayern Leverkusen is traditionally more of a defensive midfielder, but is coming off a season with by far his best offensive output, with 10 goals and 11 assists in 31 appearances in the Bundesliga.

Muppets, start your engines!

Now that I've said all that they'll probably both bottle it tonight. To be fair, it is a friendly just before a major tournament, so Copa America should give better insight.

Well Damn, neither are playing. They were highlighted in an article as being on the team. Have to wait for Copa America I guess.

I disagree. "Potential" is a dangerous game and, for £40m, I'd expect someone much nearer the finished article. With his achievements to date, off the back of his one very good season, I'd expect a price nearer £25m.

Exceptional young talents have always cost a fortune. We paid almost 30m for Rooney when he was 18. Now with teams like City, Chelsea, Real involved, the prices haveg one up even more. Always a gamble, but sometimes, its worth it

Udinese believe that £44million is not enough money for Alexis Sanchez, who they say is the best player of his generation.

Barcelona are thought to be close to completing a deal for the tricky Chile forward, but English rivals Manchester United and Manchester City are also interested.

Sanchez has been compared to a young Cristiano Ronaldo to give an indication of his potential and for that reason Udinese hope to make as much profit as possible.

City are reported to have lodged the highest bid for the 22-year-old, while European champions Barcelona are said to be offering a money-plus-players deal including Spain Under-21 international Jeffren.
No doubt

Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo is quoted as saying in The Sun: Is £44m too much? No, it does not seem enough.

"I have no doubt that if he stayed with us for another year he would be worth even more than that.

"He's the best player of his generation.

"He is like Cristiano Ronaldo when he was 22.

"We know when we have a diamond - Alexis Sanchez is one."

only man city, real madrid or chelsea can pay that kind of money...

Udinese as a club are all about getting in young talent and selling them on so they are out for all they can get. The time to buy Sanchez was a few years ago.

People keep saying this but if the rumours are true we tried to, and kept getting told no. They didn't want to sell him until they got to this point where hey could demand a stupid pice for him.

They are going to make big bollocks of money when he is eventually sold. I read they got him for only a million plus from some Chile club

This has turned into a farce. All clubs should just walk away.

That should actually happen and with the new Fairplay regulations coming in next season he will actually go for less than what is being asked for right now..

Ideally it would make perfect sense for United to buy him next season.. Sanchez would have developed more in his central role.. Plus another year of experience plus Udinese are in the Champions League.. Also on the United front.. Giggs IMO will retire.. Owen and probably even Berbatov will be released/sold.. We will get another year to look at Obertan, Bebe, Cleverley.. Park too will be on his last straw.. Also with those regulations coming in if anyone can afford the sort of transfer fee being requested United will be the one to afford it..

Yes that's quite possible - in fact, quite likely. I'm pretty sure Sanchez was one of the players we looked at when Ronaldo left.

I'm also wondering how many teams are really ready to commit that amount of cash when he has a huge tournament to play in coming up. It's even more of a risk, not in signing the potential that is there for everyone to see but to also pay out that amount of cash only to watch him get injured. Udinese may actually be playing a blnder with this. Raise the price to extremes above the valuations of the teams bidding to hold them off until after the tournament where if he has a great campaign will only strengthen their (Udinese's hand). If he's not sold they get to keep the player for their inaugral champions league campaign and will probably still be able to sell him the following season for the same price.

He was, we even tried to purchase him all those years ago only to find out we'd been beaten by Udinese by a few weeks. When then offered Udinese 3 mil for him and they said no even then. Udinese have built an incredible scouting network in South America and Sanchez is the big pay off for this tactic.

Reminds me of Zamparini at Palermo who keeps whoring out Pastore while throwing some ridiculously similar fees around.

Udinese's owner is playing a dangerous game at the moment.

There is no chance that Barca and United will pay over the odds. The reason is simple and logical. It's not 100% sure that Sanchez will improve the quality of above teams. None of the them is short of attacking players. Actually the opposite. We are talking about the cremé de la cremé when we reads name's like Villa, Pedro, Messi, Affeley, Nani, Valencia, Park, Young and Ronney. All of them (except Affeley and Young) are proven players on highest level with CL experience and domestic medals around their neck.

To think that Pep and Sir Alex will fork out over £35m for a player they don't actually need is naive. Off course Sanchez is a special talent but so far he hasn't set the world on fire. He's stats are good but not sensational. It's one thing to be the main star in Udinese, and playing in Serie A. But both La liga and EPL is on another level.

The only club who's willing to take a chance and pay over £35m is City, and this club is not his preferred destination.

So as Gambit say's they take huge risk and it's not sure it will pay off.

Yes but that ignores the player's state of mind. I think Udinese might be pushing this a bit too far. He clearly wants to leave and they have probably informally agreed that he can leave and yet they are pushing into a move which he probably doesn't want. Arsenal assumed they could keep Fabregas, get a good season out him and still get as much if not more money than last year and it isn't looking like that right now. Certainly they didn't get a great season out of him. We did it with Ronaldo but even he was a little sulky and petulant.

The force is strong with this one.

The thing is I've watched a few youtube clips and I'm surprised people are so incredibly desperate to sign him. He is a good player, reminds me of Tevez actually, but there isn't really any reason why we'd be chasing this type of player when we have already have Nani, Valencia and now Young.

This transfer doesn't add up, we're not after him. We'll be after a CM now.

They proably will. I imagine the only team who will pay such silly money are City. Bet he doesn't want to go there though.

Don't reckon we will be. Other than a major signing (which doesn't mean a Sneijder or a Modric) I don't see us adding to the squad after De Gea. Any more I reckon will be youth.

We do need a creative midfielder, currently we have a number of defensive players in that position like Carrick, Fletch, Jones, so a player in the mould of Modric or Sneider along with the above will be perfect.

No we don't, we've just signed Young who has been playing in the middle a lot, I see the youth being given a chance to develop now as well as Anderson.

I disagree, Young will play on the left and on occasions on the right and behind a striker, i can't see him playing in CM.

You mention youth, are you referring to the likes of Morrison, Tunnecliffe, although i would love them to be given a chance next season but realistically their only appearance will be in the carling cup and possibly some FA cup matches.

However, i can see Anderson pushing on this season but we still need another midfielder, preferably a creative one.

As well as Cleverley. I see Young taking over the Giggs role.

I'm not sure Ashley Young as ever played central midfield as he? I know he's played behind the striker this year but never as a central midfielder or have I missed something?

If we're not after a CM then I'll be very surprised. People will always go on about how we won the league last year, but the truth is we didn't play well a lot of the time and for the most part relied on everybody else fecking it up. I don't think SAF will need telling that his current midfield isn't up to scratch. If he wants to limp through another season then fair enough but it's not ideal. The only reason for him not to buy is if he thinks Anderson will step up and live up to the massive potential he had when we bought him.
