Alexis Sanchez | Udinese: No Deal Yet

Udinese owner Gianpaolo Pozzo claims Manchester City are the favourites to land Alexis Sanchez.

It appeared the Premier League outfit had been overtaken in the race for the Chilean's signature by Barcelona.

Udinese, though, believe the Blues are the club most likely to put together a package capable of landing the highly-rated 22-year-old.

At the moment, City are reluctant to meet Sanchez's £44million valuation, with Roberto Mancini hoping to strike a deal closer to £30million.

Udinese are prepared to stand firm in the transfer market and ensure that they get the best possible price, but Pozzo concedes that there is little the Serie A outfit can do if City present a suitable offer.

He said: "If he was to leave, I would say that City have the highest probability of success." (Other words the fattest wallets)

Should City make their move, they will hope to have an agreement in place by the time Sanchez takes in his first game for Chile at the Copa America on July 4.

"But we aren't going to sell him to them because he doesn't want to go."

These quotes of the Udinese owner were made by him weeks ago, don't know why they're getting mentioned today!

We're in the elongated Sanchez cycle. Barcelona were all of last week, now City they need to pad it out a bit so rehashing oldquotes like they're new is standard practice. We're a few days from it being us again.

We are due a mention soon, this Sanchez transfer is getting boring now.

What are the chances of him staying at Udinese for another year?

I think many clubs wait for the Copa America.

I can't see anything happened with Sanchez before the tournament. First he seems to be to expensive for all clubs except City. Then there are other players in his bracket who is on the market. We haven't heard anything regarding Pastore, Banega, Mata, Cavani, Hamsik and a few more.

I have said it before that I'm not sure Sanchez is the player everybody want's. He's flashy and good on the eyes but his stats is not on par with the very best. He's still young and there are lot's of time for improvement but at the same time he only have had one outstanding season. And 10 goals and 2 assist was under a period of 67 days. It also worth to mention that he didn't produce anything the first 9 games and only 1 assist the last 6 games.

So the other players you mentioned, you reckon they are in the same category as Sanchez?

Good question!

Serie A is not the same as La Liga or PL and none of the mentioned players except Banega and Mata has any record from the CL

The only player who has performed well several times against good opposition (Barcelona Madrid etc) is Banega and Mata. Hamsik wasn't that much of an hit in the WC 2010 and Pastore is at the moment outside Argentinas first XI. Sanchez was shining a few moments in the WC but he was not exactly a world beater. Chicarito produced more then Sanchez.

Sanchez has had one good season and played well against good teams (Juve and Milan) twice. That's all.

That's why I think many clubs wait for the Copa to see if they can deliver on a bigger stage.

But the thing is sometimes big players do not turn up to such events, half the England team didn't even turn up for the WC and most will walk into some really good teams.

I think playing for the national team is a not good idea for you to judge, yes Hernandez was a hit but saying that can you remember Kleberson, he played extremely well but ended up being flank at United, this is just an example many more can be aded to the list.

What did Messi really do for Argentina in the WC, played really well but then lost the gas pedal when needed.

But that is with anyone, do you agree?

He played very well the season before too, but he had more end product last season.

He also had a great match against inter....

And most definitely the lad can play on the big stage, the only thing stalling is because Pozzo is trying to make the most of it and wants the 40m that he thinks Sanchez is worth.

Nobody dispute his talent but I'm not sure it's fair to say he's so much better then Mata, Pastore, Hamsik, Cavani, Banega and a few more young upcoming stars.

Serie A is not was it use to be. Former great teams like Milan, Inter and Juve is nowhere near the level of the top teams in Spain and England. You can argue that Mourinho's Inter two seasons ago won the CL but the season after that it was back to normal.

The questions marks regarding Sanchez is his off the ball movements, that he, according to stats from OPTA, loose possession to often and that he has only produced regular on a short space of time. Apart from those two month (10 goal 2 ass from 14/6 in total) his stats are quite average and sometimes poor.

And there is no evidence, what so ever, that he's on par or better then regular top team starters like Pedro, Villa, Nani, Messi, Rooney, Tevez, Silva and Valencia. All of them are proven quality players who have delivered on the highest stage. So when Pozzo is talking about £40m it's interesting to know how he value Pedro or David Villa, probably the two players Sanchez is supposed to replace if he goes to Barcelona. Unless Pozzo think it's wise for Rosell to once more pay silly money (remember Ibra) to replace a proven world class player.

And out of interest. Ashley Young's stats are more or less similar to Sanchez and the former Aston Villa player has produced stats like that for two three seasons. He is also known for his work ethic and we bought him for a reported £16m. Is that value for the money or should we have opted for a £30m+ Sanchez instead?

Maybe it's wise to wait for the Copa America. I'm sure that the players who shine's there will be hot prospects in the transfer market.

I think Udinese are the ones that want to stretch this out to the Copa America. I think his value can only go up in the tournament. Chile have a good chance to do well. They did great in WC qualifying, and during the World Cup played well but had the misfortune of facing Spain and Brazil in back to back games.

Even with a poor tournament, Udinese still be able to get what they're getting now (25-30 million). With a good tournament, they may be able to get a team that Sanchez wants to actually play for (i.e., anyone other than City) offering 40 million.

He's generally been very good for Chile when I've seen him so I don't think he'll struggle to impress and impose himself in the Copa America anyway.

But in fact was is perfectly correct in this position, just less formal.

Apart from in the fixed phrase as it were, and inverted sentence order: I would f@p for de Gea were I not so tired after Young, not *...was I not so tired...

"Was has been in competition with were for 300-400 years".

cnuts.

It's all still all old news. I reckon this is dead now until after the copa.

Not content with their own ambition, Chelsea are attempting to buy the ambitions of others.

According to Ian McGarry of 5Live, we fell out of the bidding at €31m, it's at about €37m now, and between city, Chelsea and Barca, with the player determined to go to Barca.

I'm surprised we went to £28m tbh.

I'm praying he goes to Barca.

Then we can forget about competing with them for the next few years. Its not like we are close now but we will be further away from them if he goes there. But I guess that is better than him moving to an English club.

if we get to the point where we can compete with Barca as they are now then sanchez wont make a blind bit of difference, he's not a significant upgrade on anything they have over two games, he might help them over the course of a season but the effect he'd haver on us is minuscule.

The man is a complete tool.

Here's some of his last month predictions:

"Hiddink will be announced as Director of Football at CFC followed by Van Basten as coach.

Hughes will be next manager at Villa Park.

Martin O'Neill as new boss at Craven Cottage."

He makes some half ass claims on Twitter and shamelessly ignores the fact that he's wrong nine times out of ten.

Being a sports journalist must be an easiest job on the planet.

I suspect it's very hard to be a good sports' journalist - and sadly the reputation of the profession is consistently ruined by hacks like McGarry, Custis et al.

He's been quoted in Spanish Media

"It's Barca or I'm staying"

Barca won't buy Sanchez for two reasons. They don't like long negotiations, and they won't have enough money after they sign Fabregas.

Sanchez could very well stay in Udinese.

This really has been drawn out a bit, i think quite a few of us have calmed down somewhat. If he comes - great, if not - we shall overcome!

I admire the quiet way United have been goin about their business. Barca are some arrogant pricks with their pursuit of Fabergas & not willin to pay whats right. Instead, they're trying to get players on the cheap because they havent much money.... me bollix...!

i think they will get both Fabregas and Sanchez. That's how they roll...

Absolutely gutted that we appear to have dropped out the race. Fergie has been following him for years - we should at least meet the highest or accepted bid

He wants Barcelona, we dont even know for sure that we were "in the race" this summer even though we do know we looked at him in the past. Frankly with our wing and forward options we dont really need him so not getting him should be a shrug of the shoulders and no more
