Alexis Sanchez | Udinese: No Deal Yet

Dont think so - both are wingers, and while Sanchez might have been the first priority, now we are getting Young as we couldnt get Sanchez. Doubt we would buy 2 new wingers

So you think we agreed a deal with Young and told him to wait before we could see whether we could sign Sanchez or not to decide whether we wanted him or not? Yeah right!

Errr I wouldn't say that Young was ever 2nd choice, the agreement / deal for Young was in place before he went on holiday and way before we reportedly bid for Sanchez. Again another factor that makes me think we haven't actually bid for him.

There are two stories going around regarding United's stance in this deal:

1. We never put a bid in for Sanchez, the asking price was too high but we had shown interest in Jan. Udinese used our name to increase the interest from Citeh & Barca and ultimately bump up the bids.

2. We did bid, bid was acknowledged, but Barca agreed a fee too and Sanchez seemingly decided he wants the move to Barca. The Barca deal has hit a snag, but no other bid has come from us!

To be honest I believe the first story (just my opinion), because from some of the things mentioned about Sanchez & United in the past if we had a bid accepted I'm sure he'd still be mulling over a move to us or Barca now.

Whatever the craic is Gaz, i find it unbelievable that we're not in for him but maybe thats the case. There hasnt been any media outlet statin that we're not in for him though - quite the contrary actually, so its hard to see what Uniteds position is in all of the shenanigans.

Fergie & Gill always say that there'll always be money available for a marquee signing (£25m+), if Fergie & United dont regard Sanchez as a marquee signing then i'm baffled!

Folk keep goin on about Sanchez bein a winger & we've too many wingers blah blah blah.. he's more than a winger - he plays anywhere in the oppositions half. He's a playmaker aswell. I watched him for Udinese a few times in Serie A, and he just drifted all over the place, making it very hard to track him. Also, he's very good at running at the defence through the middle, that would give us an extra avenue to get at teams such as Barca - where we couldnt penetrate their defence centrally!

This is Uniteds chance to spend some of the Ronnie money (that softened the blow of him leaving) on a crackin player with similar attributes. If we're not bothered, then i'll be disappointed that we had a chance to get a player at almost a third of the price Real had to pay to get Ronnie, but "didnt see any value.." in a guy with the world at his feet & only 22 years of age!

With what we've got at the moment Sanchez isn't really a necessity I don't think.

Plus, he's all but going to Barcelona. Because that's where he actually wants to go. We can't force players to join us!

Do you really think Barca regard Sanchez as a necessity?

If great players become available & when they're at a very young age, then any big club not bothered in obtaining the player is takin their foot off the pedal. Liverpool took their foot off the pedal in the late 80's by not adeqately replacing ageing players / refreshin their squad, when they were winnin & have never recovered!

This necessity thing is a no-brainer for me. Would Sanchez improve the team / squad? Abso-fecking-lutely!

The Udinese official came out & said today that Sanchez has no preference where he goes:

""The player has not manifested any particular preference, although naturally we will listen to his opinion..."

We dont know anything - but it seems likely, as we had the time to close the Young deal a few weeks ago. Why was it put on hold for so long? And would we be interested in signing both Young and Sanchez ? Dont think so

Why would you know what was done before and what not?

The Young deal was sorted over 2 weeks ago...bar the medical. The Sanchez saga is still rumbling on, so that theory doesn't quite fit with the facts.

Why would you know the deal was sorted a long time ago?

Not saying its a fact - just that we tried to sign Sanchez, realised taht we wont get him, and then opted to sign Young definately (after waiting for 3 weeks to finally get him for a medical and siganture - why would we wait so long if we were so sure to sign him?)

We weren't put off trying to sign Shearer after we signed Solskjaer and at the time we still had Cole, Cantona, Scholes and McClair on the books. The fact we have signed players already in a similar position to Sanchez does not necessarily have any bearing on whether or not we tried to or are trying to sign Sanchez. Pointless area of discussion.

It could be similar to that of De Gea. Where his contract with his agent expires on the 1st July & he's reportedly switchin to Whore-Gay Mendesssshhhhh, therefore his new agent will get the payday not his present one. Young's agent contract could be expiring in similar fashion.

Other than that - i havent a fooooooooking foggiest!

I'm starting to think we didn't even put in a bid for him in the first place, or we have withdrawn and stay away from it now. Udinese has not mentioned about United in the mix. Reckon if Sanchez has us as another option and Barca are stalling their offer and he doesn't want to go to City, he would probably have decided to join United already

I dont know what to think about this either man. Its a bittuva confuser alright. If United were out of the runnin then someone would have reported it by now, i havent heard one rumour or article that we're out!

So until then, i live in hope that someone at the club gets the feckin finger out & gets this lad swaying towards OT

You have asked this question to the 3 of us.. Have you not been around at all? If so then what's the point in arguing with us? He has been on holiday..

Havent followed the process, but...

Do you think that holidays is really the reason why we didnt sign him immediately? If United want you, do you delay the siganture that cause of holidays...

Pozzo can say all he wants, if Sanchez does not want to go to City then he can't force him to join regardless of the fee City are offering.

I think Barcelona might just get tired of this saga and pursue Rossi instead.

Getting tired and bored of this whole thing now dragging on and on.

Why can't the guy just make up his mind already and state for definite where he wants to go?

I'd be in danger of pissing myself laughing if he ends up staying at Udinese.

Isnt his contract up at the end of next season or maybe its the season after?!

Another season in Serie A & a season in the Champions League will make his price inflate even further. So payin £30m for him now, is just like us payin the whack for Rooney - a good investment!

Yes.. United are not going to hold him to ransom just to ensure he signs the contract.. We let him go on Holiday and ensured we would sign him once he was back.. That was probably what that brief medical was about.. The one he took before he went on holiday i.e..

I've no idea mate, but if it is then his price isn't going to go up after a year it's going to go down. If he stays there and then this time next year is in the last 12 months of his deal he'll go for a lot less than the £40m+ being talked about now.

It's sounding like we have essentially dropped out of the race as the price is now £40m.

Very disappointing if true. We sold fecking Ronaldo for twice that and these guy could be the new one...

Point taken

Bit like the Ozil situation. I prefer us to not get into that situation because we'd probably lose out again. Say Barca come in & offer £10m, he wants to go there & there's feck all we can do about it & same as Udinese as they'll get feck all for him if he runs out his contract!

Oh, completely unrelated, but funny all the same....

Thats the shit i've been banging on about. That Ronnie money was a sweetner for us when he left, we were told it was gonna be available for transfers if the right personnel became available & guess what? Sanchez is available & we might not even be next to near makin a bid with any of that loot.

We made a massive profit on Ronnie, i dont see why we cant spend a decent chunk of it on Sanchez - he's only 22 aswell, so its value for money!

Not sure if we have dropped out, from what the papers have said our £27 million bid is still on the table. Barca are the favorites, Sanchez wants to go there but they are not willing to pay what Udinese want and cannot convince any of their youngsters to go to Udinese in exchange.

If the Barca deal fails (which I don't think will happen) then I think we will be the favorites to sign him, even if City offer double. If Sanchez wanted to go to City then this deal would have been concluded weeks ago. I don't think he is motivated by money and if the Barca deal was not to happen then I believe he would push for a move to United.

That said, it could turn out we haven't even bid in the first place.

Fixed! :D

We've all been postin like that. Writin lengthy well-balanced points, then at the end we have that :(

This whole muppetry better not be a waste of time - we've invested alot of work-time in this thread!

Muppetry is its own reward, regrdless of wether the player signs or not. In fact the players signing can sometimes be the worst thing, because then the muppetry is over.

Yep. To the transfer muppet, it's the chase that matters, not the capture.

I suspect Barcelona are in a better position to spend money than we are. Plus they don't need to strengthen their midfield either. Something which we might possibly do it would seem.

I know what you mean and I can understand the frustration but £30M+ is a hell of a gamble for us.

I've come to believe neither Barca or United want Sanchez that much and that all this tooing and froing is just a smokescreen to disguise both clubs interest in other targets. I think its more likely Barca sign Rossi and we sign a centre midfielder than either club buying Sanchez.

That is certainly a theory.

I agree with that part only i would have added 'yet' to the end. I think they both want him but would have preferred to wait until next season, as there are indeed other more pressing targets identified for this summer.

City's bid has complicated matters, and maybe forced them into acting sooner than they would have liked. Udinese for their part realise this is probably the last season when huge money will be spent, and by next year Sanchez will only have 12 months left on his current deal, so would expect to command a higher price now as opposed to next season.

This is why i believe there is so much tooing and froing, neither wants to match City's offer and each are hoping that the player expresses his desire to join them instead of City, which in turn may force Udinese into accepting a less excessive sum.

Well, guys, in a few hours you can get a look at what we are likely missing out on. Chile take on Paraguay in a friendly warm up to Copa America. It's on ESPN Deportes here, not sure about Europe. I believe kick off is about midnight UK time.

But don't just watch Sanchez. He's not the only Chilean that had a break out year in one of Europe's top leagues. Arturo Vidal of Bayern Leverkusen is traditionally more of a defensive midfielder, but is coming off a season with by far his best offensive output, with 10 goals and 11 assists in 31 appearances in the Bundesliga.

Muppets, start your engines!

Now that I've said all that they'll probably both bottle it tonight. To be fair, it is a friendly just before a major tournament, so Copa America should give better insight.

Basically as Ive seen it today..the deal with Barca is struggling, Citeh have offered more money..the player prefers Barca but refuses to rule out Citeh and we are sat there with a thumb up the arse again balking at a 40 million quid price tag for a player who could make a huge difference to our team?

Am I right? So its either we werent interested which I cannot believe for a second or we dont have the money which is most likely. So again we are getting overtaken when it comes to going for the top players...depressing to say the least!

Overtaken? When was the last time we signed a "top player" beating the likes of Barcelona?

We've just signed a winger/in the hole player. Dont expect us to sign yet another
