Alexis Sanchez | Staying at Arsenal after City deal falls apart

Sanchez would be perfect for us, he can give us 2-3 years of his peak in his best role, play as a back-up for Lewandowski if we need one and is probably the only player we can buy this summer who might instantly perform on a level close to peak Ribery/Robben. It's a no brainer in my opinion. Convince him to come, negotiate a bit with Arsenal and buy him for 45m.

If we sell Costa this summer, we'll get some money back anyway. And I highly doubt that Coman will ever be as good as Sanchez is now.

Spot on that. Best signing Bayern could make for the money.

He didn't look too interested today, a few toys out the pram, and some blatant fouling when he didn't easily get his own way. Has an agreement in the bag already IMO.

I know your man handled him well tonight, but I think this is a bit far. Sanchez is still only 28, and looking at Robben/Ribery can still do for Bayern at 33/34 years old... He'd be a very good signing for them.

Robben and Ribery are more one offs than the norm. I want us to buy players in their early to mid 20s so we can get a good 5-7 years out of them.

I've seen little to suggest Sanchez won't be able to emulate them. His form has been a bit so-so lately, but class is permanent, and he'll come out of his dry patch eventually.

Definitely see what you're saying, though, and I do agree with what someone said earlier in the thread (that he'd be a better signing for Bayern than he would for you).

I don't think Alexis has more than another couple of years in his tank (at a top level). After that he becomes a slightly better than average player living on the fumes of his reputation from several years ago and making massive wages.

No way. He will be a top player easily till 35-36yo. The guy takes good care of himself and his game is always evolving.

Better Bayern than Chelsea or City. Also, on the grand scheme of things, it doesn't improve them that much. Bayern is already a top class team. We are missing out big time though.

I think Bayern will buy him to play the current Muller role, as a secondary striker/playmaker. That's were you get the best out of Alexis.

I don't think so. He is playing at a high level now but that is going to fall off a cliff in a year or two once he gets into his 30s. Whoever buys him will then be stuck with a high wage earner with progressively less production.

I mean, his wages would be similar/lower than Ribery/Robben, who're 34 this year and are only in contract for one more year at Bayern. Sanchez's fee would basically like an extension on Ribery or Robben. For £30m~ or so, I think a lot of Bayern fans would consider it a great bit of business.

Plus he'd actually get a chance to win things :D

He'd be a good buy for Bayern since either (or both) of the Rs are likely to play less or move on in the next year.

If they go for Sanchez, we have better chances at landing some of the other in demand players. We wouldnt get Sanchez anyway, so i am all for Bayern going for it.

The best thing about him going to bayern is that Douglas Costa becomes available. He is exactly the type of winger we should be looking at.

Why do you think this? Robben and Ribery won't have more than 1 or 2 seasons left and Costa has been solid when played.

He's shit. Only his first 6 months were good. He can't even get close to 34 year old Ribery/Robben even though he should be close to his own prime. And he seems like a prick outside the field. Most Bayern fans hope to get rid in summer and get some good money.

Do not want him at any PL team except ourselves. He's absolutely brilliant.

Unneccessary hyperbole in my opinion. He's not "shit". Not getting close to Robben/Ribéry does not make you shit, it merely makes you not elite.
Not to mention the 'outside the field' part is pure speculation.
Agree that we should try to improve on him though.

I have to clearly say though that IMO Alexis is being somewhat overrated. He is a good player with an end product, and I will not complain if we get him. He'd be an upgrade on Costa on the wings, and a huge upgrade on noone/Müller as CF backup.
But he's actually not been performing that great for Arsenal over the last year and a half, IMO, he's not a very good team player and very selfish, he loses hell of a lot of balls, doesn't work as tirelessly against the ball as his image and reputation seems to project.

I really hope we get him. He would be the perfect replacement for Ribery and a better backup for Lewandowski than Müller. It does not matter if he will cost 40 or 60 millions, if we want to continue to be a top 5 team, we probably have to start spending a little more than the 40mio for Martinez a few years ago, which is still our record.

He'll always lose a lot of balls because he always tries to make something happen when in possession but at Bayern where he'd be surrounded by not only a better calibre of player but an actual functioning football team i'd say it would happen less often than at Arsenal. I think his behaviour would improve also for similar reasons.

He does tend to hog the ball at times and not release players in a better position but i think most of that is down to a 'tunnel vision' he gets at times whilst dribbling as opposed to being selfish.

You'd also be picking someone up with the skillset to, and absolute belief that he can, make a difference in the biggest matches against the best teams.

I would very much like it if we brought Sanchez in. Very talented and already established in the EPL.

His celebration definitely seemed to mean that he'll stay. Don't know whether to believe it or not though.

All credible links to Bayern, City, Chelsea & PSG. Pep has a connection with him tied to the player first moving to Barcelona over many others who were in pursuit

Sanchez is the answer of what most of us wants from Wayne Rooney...

Hard-work, Tough bastard, Killer Instinct, Killer Pass, High level IQ of Footballer, Fighting Spirit, Ready to play defense....

He can elevate other players around him...Even Giroud looks like a real deal when played with Sanchez...

Buy him, pay him Rooney salary...Also release Ibrahimovic, no need of Contract Extention...

Sanchez will be a good mentor for :

a. Rashford - for Finishing ability
b. Martial - for mental weakness

I hope we fight for him along with Bayern, sure arsenal will resist selling to us, but worth giving a try.

Don't think city have space for him.

We should be throwing the bank at him but we aren't mentioned in the papers as interested so far. Not that that means much.

No chance we'd get him, so Bayern seems a great option.
Imagine him popping up at Chelsea or City

We should definitely give this a go, provided we win our final. Just test the waters a bit and see what happens. I fully expect to be rejected at every opportunity but we have nothing to lose by poking a tame club with a stick.

He's played an incredible amount of games mind. I full anticipate he'll be one of those players that tails off rapidly when his body starts slowing down. He's been clever in visibly adapting his game in preparation of this too since he first came to England. He's more clinical and less of a work horse now.
