We've recently signed van Persie and Mata, worth mentioning. There's reason to think we're going to need to buy some superstars because Fergie has retired, our policy is bound to adjust somewhat to LVG.

But I agree we're not famous for buying superstars, rather creating them.

There seems to be a myth around here that the club doesn't want superstar players.

As it is we were lucky to have a golden generation from the class of 92' form a basis to the side. Had we not had those players I very much suspect Fergie would have happily signed top players if if meant success on the field.

Other than Januzaj, we have t produced anyone to the level of Scholes, Giggs and the rest in over a decade so things evidently need to change if the quality is going to be maintained.

Yep, we certainly are famous for creating superstars rather than buying them. But it's time for a change, don't get me wrong, we should continue our policy of bringing through youngsters and signing young players with potential but we need to catch up with the pack and we can only do that with a few ready made stars and not continue to buy dross.

Most probably not going to happen but this would be such an incredible signing - similar to Real Madrid selling Robben... To Van Gaal

With Delofeu returning and reports that Barca are close to signing Juan Cuadrado and Arda Turan, it looks like Sanchez will actually be leaving.

Don't really believe it's gonna happen, but definitely better option than most of wingers we were connected with bar Muller, although that one is even a longer stretch.

We've paid some decent money for some other players as well. We bought Denis Irwin, Cantona, Andy Cole, Jaap Stam, Roy Keane, Teddy Sheringham, Dwight Yorke and Michael Carrick for some decent money. Even the likes of Nani, Anderson, Valencia and Ashley Young cost a pretty penny.

None, or only a few, of these might be 'superstar signings' but it shows we're willing to spend serious money to bring in players.

I certainly agree that Fergie would have bought players if the class of 92 hadn't panned out.

@CameronDann all about Barcelona being willing to sell, Liverpool are certainly interested in him

I'd imagine he'd go somewhere more established as a top side than Liverpool. One year in the top four doesnt mean squat, otherwise Spurs would of signed a bunch of world class players a few years back.

Not a chance in hell that he'll go to Liverpool.

Barcelona want €25 million for Sanchez and Man Utd are showing interest in him (Gazetta)

Hey, he's best friends with Vidal, too. That would be great leverage, as Vidal is also very good friends and teammate of Paul Pogba, who is also a national teammate of Mangala... :p

25M is a bargain in this market for a player of Sanchez' quality. We'd be mental not to go for him especially if Juventus won't get involved in a bidding war.

Would be such a fantastic signing, i'll get excited if more of the tabloids start running with our interest.

I'm thoroughly "Meh" on Sanchez and would rather we focus on other positions - I prefer Januzaj, Kagawa and Rooney out wide.

He just seems a bit of a Cnut to me, I could live with him going to Liverpool.

He apparently only wants to go to Juve. However I can see United hijacking the deal if we blow Juve's offer out of the water as Gazetta says that Juve offered 15m Euros while Barca want 25m.

You do realize Sanchez is a right sided player. A position which Rooney and Kagawa don't play in.

That would be a steal. Can't believe they'd let him go for €25 million, whoever buys him is getting an excellent player though. He is great when the team plays to his strengths.

I agree, he's just what we've been crying out for on the wing since Ronaldo left.

Any chance of a link?

I have such a muppet on for this.

Exactly this. And I echo what everyone else is saying, we should really be in for him at the price being quoted. Although I don't feel confident going against Juventus. They can offer Champions League football and he already knows Italy. We may have to blow them away with his wages.
