Regardless of where players prefer the one thing we've learnt in recent years with city is that money talks. We should put in a £35mil bid and just secure his signature and be done with it.

All we need now is Ogden and Taylor to confirm our interest before we get excited.

35M for an attacker when we have more pressing concerns in the squad?

when a player like this becomes available you seize the opportunity

our wide players have been a disappointment and the last time we genuinely had a winger in consistently good form was probably Nani in 2010-2011 or Valencia the year after

if we don't fight to get this guy - who is genuine top quality - we are assholes

Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, Shinji Kagawa, Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez, Antonio Valencia, Adnan Januzaj, Zaha, Nani, Young.

Even if we assume the last two will be sold (and maybe Hernandez), that still leaves us with lot of players for the front four positions. We are already having problems fitting the first 4 together in a team, adding Sanchez to the mix would only compound more problems, I feel.

One of our concerns was lack of creativity from the wings. This lad is well worth the money.
I don't disagree. I know the guy is quality, but the team currently is in dire need of a CM and a CB.

Nani, Young, Hernandez will be sold this summer. Zaha is not young enough. Welbeck wants to leave too.

8 players for 4 positions isn't bad.

Signing a top wide player isn't going to compromise our interest in a midfielder or centre half, I very much doubt it's an either or situation. Our wingers have been stale for a couple of years and Zaha doesn't look up to it. Behind those four there's Januzaj and Kagawa/Mata but we're in real need of some pace and goals from wide. Sanchez is perfect for that and if he's genuinely available he'd be one hell of a singing.

It's a push and we would still need a left back, a centre half and two centre mids though IMO.

Of which I'm sure we're looking at as well. I feel our most important need is to offload players though.

Yup, that's what Ducker said LVG wants to do.

Van Gaal will formally start work at Old Trafford only once Holland’s World Cup campaign is over, but he has already instructed Ed Woodward, the United executive vice-chairman, to set about trimming United’s squad.

Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic have left the club, Fabio Da Silva joined Cardiff City in January and Ryan Giggs, who will be Van Gaal’s No 2, has announced his retirement from playing, but half a dozen more players are likely to depart.

United used 30 players in total last season, but Van Gaal could operate with a smaller squad of around 22 next term with no European football to accommodate.

The Dutchman plans to bring in four or five players. A deal for Luke Shaw, the England left back, has been agreed in principal with Southampton and Van Gaal is also in the hunt for a centre half, one or two midfielders and possibly a versatile forward.

It's odd, none of the British media are reporting our interest in Sanchez.

totally disagree

I think Sanchez would prove to be more effective for us than all those players (on a par with RVP) and would add pace and skill to our attack

ask yourself why on earth we would turn down the chance to sign a player of this calibre for fear of upsetting underperforming players like Welbeck, Nani, Valencia, Zaha or Young??

we need to be ambitious - some of these players havent delivered in years - their time is up

Out of that list, the ones I'm really bothered about losing would be RVP, Mata, Januzaj and to some extent Rooney (replacement depending)

The rest could all happily go for me. Now, I like Welbeck, and would actually like him to stay, but I don't think he will get the game time he wants potentially. If he would sold, I would want some sort of buyback fee agreed into the deal though

Good, I'd love to see him get rid of the shite that's been festering in our squad for far too long.

Exactly this. And I echo what everyone else is saying, we should really be in for him at the price being quoted. Although I don't feel confident going against Juventus. They can offer Champions League football and he already knows Italy. We may have to blow them away with his wages.
Wages shouldn't be a problem anymore. Fergie and Gill are gone so and Woodward isn't as reluctant to offer high wages, didn't we double what Mata was earning at Chelsea?

I don't see how bringing in quality players into a side that struggled last year can "compound problems". There are underperforming players that need to be moved on, and others who might be useful but probably won't get regular games who can also be moved on.

We're not going top improve without better players. This much is obvious.

Yeah I don't think that we would have a problem beating Juve in terms of transfer fee or wages, its just someting that we might have to do seeing as Sanchez would probably prefer to go back to Juve for all of the other reasons.

I think he'd favor a move to Juventus as well for quite a few reasons.
1. Champions League football, 2. Vidal, 3. Played in Italy before

6 of those players operate best centrally with one or two able to 'do a job' in wider positions. Out of our genuine wide options we only have Valencia, Januzaj, Zaha, Nani and Young. Two of those are not good enough and we'd do well to get rid of and one is still young and very raw. We could get by if we didn't sign a wide player but if someone like Sanchez becomes available, especially for the prices quoted we should go for it. We need to bring someone in eventually, best not pass up the opportunity and wind of regretting it.

Also don't see how us going for Sanchez impacts us going for midfielders or a centre back.

Sanchez is the type of winger that suits United. He is quick, tricky and can score goals.

I could easily see the below happening anyway. Which means it opens up space for Sanchez. We get Sanchez, Juve gets Nani.

First Tean Squad: Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, Shinji Kagawa, Danny Welbeck, Adnan Januzaj, Antonio Valencia
Loaned Out: Zaha
Sold: Javier Hernandez, Nani, Young.

LvG could be trying to just mess with his head. They're in the same WC group after all. Just sayin'

Where's this 35m coming from? Any rumours I've seen are £20m.

He was never at Juve before.

i think some people were just suggesting we make Barca an offer they cant refuse and to blow opposition like Juve out of the water

Would be a great signing, he is 25 and has played the last 6 seasons in Spain and Italy and has done very well notching up 68 goals and 38 assists in less the 200 games.
SAF was after him when at Udinese by all reports but he chose Barcelona which is understandable for a South American.
If he does want to try the most famous league in the world rather than going back to Italy then I really hope the club moves for him. Exceptional player who would bring speed and goals to our midfield. He will no doubt have a good WC (group stage at least) so his fee may rise.
Huge improvement on Young, Valencia and also Nani who we all know has that talent but we just do not see it anymore.

Would be brilliant if we could pull this off. He was the player we should have signed post Ronaldo in the first place, now he'll just be even better and a much more intelligent player with his time at Barca. His skill on the ball, dribbling and risk taking will be more encouraged here too IMO. Bring him in and suggest our wings are sorted again, with januzaj developing and making the left wing position his own.

Why are they even considering selling him though?

With this rumoured 433 LVG system we'd have a fine attacking top 3 in Januzaj-RVP-Sanchez.. that's frightening! Quality subs too Nani-Rooney-Valencia.

Would sell Shinji too. No way he'd get any gametime.

Sanchez would be a magnificent buy for United. Sanchez on the right and Welbeck on the left would mean United will re-discover something called pace which had been sorely missed

Alba? Why would he want to leave? He's a regular, he's Spanish, his form has been good, he'll play in the CL next season. Undermines the credibility of the story, really.
