I genuinely can't believe City's position can change so drastically in a matter of months. How do you go from sanctioning a £60m bid in the summer to refusing to budge on £20m in the winter?

They spent £26m on a back-up full back in the summer and now they're willing to let a player of Sanchez's ilk sign for a rival because they deem £35m to be too much for him? Either this isn't the whole story or they are incredibly stupid.

It could be because of the form of Sané and especially Sterling. Maybe they don't want to risk disrupting that. Also if they're going to replace Agüero then maybe a younger player would be more wise. Alexis is older than Sergio and it wouldn't be that much of am upgrade. Also they're cruising the league so no point of buying expensively in January.

They're 15 points ahead in the league, one foot in one domestic final, looking guns all loaded for the rest of the season, and are possibly working on other younger targets about which they don't wish to speak publicly.

So would we drop our record signing in Lukaku? In my eyes Lukaku will remain as our main striker, while Sanchez will probably take the left wing role if it goes thru.
Lukaku is far more effective player than rashford in current set up, especially as No.9, despite his misses and everything, he brings a lot to the table.

They probably realise that they don't need him as much as they want him. I get your point but they must have some rationale like I suggested.

Aye. I'd imagine they think they've won this year's league already, which would change their perception of the value Sanchez brings in the short term. Even still, it does seem weird. Unless they have another target in mind for the summer who they think will offer longer term value.

It would be very interesting to see the mechanics of how clubs assess the value of potential targets.

He was in same situation at Arsenal he could've helped but instead chose to sulk.

Whenever I watched Sanchez plays, he always gave his 100%. It's not his fault other players at Arsenal are wankers. His only limitation would be he is a bit too greedy sometimes, and tend to make lots of mistakes when he tried too hard.

This will definitely happen. Rio will most likely cry.
No Rio will be chaffed. It’s amazing how people are sucked into a narrative that’s very petty. Many of you here still hold Rios view yet when he signs you’ll all be lauding Woodward as a genius

They may not have foreseen how well they were going to do back in the summer, and now they are out on their own they don't feel like they need him as much as they initially thought. Anyway, who cares? That's their problem. We need him and clearly want him enough to go all out to get him, that may have been the clincher for Sanchez. Fingers crossed.:drool:

This is what I was thinking too. They’re going well in all the competitions they’re in, and if there’s a possibility Sanchez’s transfer could distrupt that then the move could be more hassle than it’s worth.

Maybe it's a saving face tactic? Prob would spend on him, but maybe he has just chosen us, so they have come up with this bollocks to save face?

And how do you know Sanchez dosen't want to play for us?
This Pep love is being blown way out of proportion folks are acting as if they have a relationship like Fegie and Ronaldo. He played like two odd seasons under him they are not exactly bum chums.
Nice use of strawmen there. I haven't mentioned about Pep-Sanchez anywhere in my posts.
My only point is if it's footballing reason going to City is better bet to win trophies then coming to a team who's still in transition.

Has the "vamos en manchester" ball been spotted yet?

The gossip's coming from Arsenal reporters not Manchester ones. It's fair to assume that United and City are keeping quiet right now.

Matic
Jessi - Pogba
Mahrez - Alexis - Martial
Inner muppet unleashed. Make it happen Woody.

Matic - Pobga

Dybala

Mahrez - Alexis - Martial

Full muppet! Not sure it would get the best out of Pogba though.

Not sure how anyone can honestly think that after what we've seen this season.

What’s that got to do with anything in this context?

City have spend £400m of their Oil money over a few seasons and yet when we decide to compete with them it’s us that is suddenly a money club?
It’s because to call them a money club is pretty hypocritical when we were able to buy way beyond most of our competitors needs when we were the dominant club.
We’ve been a money club for a far longer period than they have.

Well City are more likely to win silverware then a United side still in transition. If he was moving for trophies and not the money City would've been a logical conclusion.
There's nothing to suggest that our personal terms (ie money) are better than City's. It's just that city don't want to match Arsenals asking price.

City still don’t have much track record for top transfers for world class players with a true global superstar profile. They’ve signed a few players who have gone on to prove their world class nature at the club, but Robinho was still arguably their marquee signing all these years on. Tevez made people take notice too, but players signed since then have generally not had the biggest clubs intently pursuing them. Ultimately they are still City, and not Barca or Madrid, or even those just below like Bayern or United.

I’m surprised if they’ll have just let this one go.

and the arsenal subreddit is going crazy over a flurry of malcolm rumours. We could here a final decision in the next few hours (City or MUFC)

Lets just wait and see - I don't really trust neither Guardian nor John Cross. The former said we already bid last week, which is contrary to the most reports which said we are interested but haven't yet formalised the offer. The latter keeps changing his mind.

Definitely. I wouldn't like to see him lose his place in the starting lineup.

Quite sure all articles said United are ready to pay more in wages too.

Safe to say you haven't watched much of Arsenal this season.

I’m pretty sure Di Marzigod said a bid had been made, which means that’s probably the case.

That comment is based on my observation whenever I watched Arsenal games where Sanchez played, not a big sample granted, maybe around 6 or 7 games.
