It’s not unusual for player form to dip for a season or so around 30yrs. I remember people booing Giggs in his earlier 30’s. Creative Players like Sanchez don’t really just lose their abilities.

Looks excited. Think there is a lot of life left in the old dog and still a great ammunition to have.

Through the middle he could be a lethal addition to the squad when he's back, rotation of him and Rashford in that position could be a good fit.

You could rotate Rashford with Lingard as well.

Imagining him on form getting in the positions lingard was being put in today courtesy of pogba and martial is quite exciting.

His movement isn't as clever as Lingard's, but his end product and passing is much better (on average). I don't think it'll necessarily be clear upgrade when he comes in.

We'll lose a bit at the same time as gaining a bit. Should be better overall, though. Particularly in the box.

You guys can’t seriously be comparing Sanchez with lingard. Night and day../ seriously and I like lingard but he should be a bench player at United and eventually will be.

This playing style is made for him. Martial- Rashford- Alexis. I can't fecking wait to see that.

Like everyone else I can't wait to see how he'll fit in. He's very good in and around the box and I think we can play some nice stuff when he comes back

Nothing wrong with Lingard but Sanchez ceiling is higher. This is a player that was consistently in the top 5 players in the Prem every year when at Arsenal.

Could be like a new signing in an attacking system.

Looking forward to seeing Alexis play under Ole

So do we think Sanchez is going to up his game under Ole? I don't think it's that simple. He's failed to do the simple things so consistently that it's shades of Torres, Falcao and Rooney for me. I'd love to be wrong but he looks a busted flush.

People tend to forget, but he was actually good for us the first few games and then off and on during the second half of last season (certainly more 'off', but he did have the occasional game). Then he was one of the two players who shone during the preseason when he was playing up front. Certainly better than Falcao was for us who couldn't do a thing right. I don't know if he will come good but I haven't lost hope.

I'm really excited to see him play now. He always had quite a lot of energy and workrate under us, it's just we were never creating enough space or movement for him to take advantage. Now that we're actually doing those things, I think we'll see an improvement.

Getting Sanchez back to his best is going to give us a hell of a goalscorer.

If he gets back to his level then we look a different proposition in the CL. Let's see...

Think he'll be excellent in a false 9 position flanked by Martial and Rashford. Can't wait to see if Ole will try that.

Agree with above post, I think Alexis will thrive with this new freedom like approach.
4231:

Martial - Alexis - Rashford
Lingard
Pogba - Herrera
Shaw - Lindelof - Bailly - Dalot

I hope we can now get the best out of Sanchez, and to find out he’s not past it. I think it will be Sanchez in for Rashford or Lingard mind - I think your formation it too Attack minded and you need another midfielder in there.

I wouldn't write him off. He's still a quality player and I truly hope we see his excellent best under Ole now.

I'm still reluctant to completely write him off as a busted flush as well. His United career obviously started very badly but I think I saw enough from him in the Bournemouth and Palace games to suggest he at least deserves another chance to prove himself.

One thing I will say is that he has looked better through the middle with Mourinho than he did on the left and that was supposedly a bone of contention between the two of them. It'll be interesting to see what Solskjaer can get out of him.

Rashford is going to stay as the number 9. Sanchez needs to make an impact on the right and fight off Lingard if he’s going to earn a spot.

I like this. I also like Fred instead of Lingard.

Can't wait until Sanchez is back, he will be (fingers crossed) like a new signing! From the snapchat of him listening to Enya, I'm hopeful

Best forward besides Martial. Will get in the side and impress. Discount 99% of what you saw with all our players under Jose.

I'm really looking forward to it, along with the likes of Greenwood getting his Sanchez

A front three that rotates between Sanchez, Rashford, Martial, Lingard and Greenwood could be very exciting. Throw into the mix Chong and Gomes at some point too

Gomes should be in the middle line, not the furthest forward line. As should Jesse for that matter. He’s no striker/forward at all.

Interesting points.

I thought we lined up as a 433 yesterday, but I seem to recall the best maps made it look like a 4231 with Lingaard sitting behind the strikers.

With the senior players I mentioned, I think we have the fluidity to mix it up between the two formations. Gomes appears to be a better central player, but positions may not matter as much in the fluid play we had yesterday

If we can get him to play as near to the goal as possible without needing to run or dribble much I think we can still get some decent 1.5 seasons from him. His finishing is his only good trait remaining so we have to adapt to it by putting him at the end of chances not be the one creating it.

Ole said Pogba can play as a 6, 8 and 10. This allows United to field an attacking four of Martial, Rashford, Lingard and Sanchez. With Pogba and Herrera or Matic behind with Pogba pinching higher up the pitch when United are on top of the opposition.

Sanchez will play a role up front and it looks more promising with Ole, Phelan and co.

His athleticism was excellent in preseason. But the system we played under Jose made it difficult for him to express himself.

I think the rumours of his demise have been greatly exagerrated.

Anyone know when he's back?

He has been terrible! United beating Cardiff won’t make him a better/fitter/sharper player.

But I love the positivity around here suddenly

Lingard typically runs 2 km more than Sanchez over 90 mins. That's a huge difference in a system such as Solskjaer's. Sanchez's distance covered stats are slightly better than those of Martial and Lukaku.

He'll never run as much as Lingard, but Sanchez has always been much more suited to a high pressing game rather than the deep-lying system that Mourinho had us playing. As are most of our players for that matter, but Sanchez probably more than just about anyone.

I bloody hope the real Sanchez shows up now.

Can't wait to see him start again.
