So this is on Woodward too? Not on Mourinho who went on record claiming that we were a world class attacker from being a finished product and that when a world class player is on the market, we'd have to do everything to get him.
Did he actually do that?

Him aside, who is playing well consistently? Too many other factors to just focus on his performances without some context.

This. He was certainly not fantastic or even GOOD, but he was far from SHIT as a large number of posters claimed.
I think many more saw Sanchez at arsenal and realise he’s playing about 60% of that player. We hoped he would come in and take us up a level, but he plays no better than Rashford/Martial.

I like Sanchez but he needs to do much more, just like Rooney had to as the star man.

No question about that.

We have Pogs, Rom, Bailly, Fred, Martial, Rashford and Sanchez all struggling to show the kind of form they should do. The thing for me is we don't seem to be able to get these players giving 8/10 performances together. You aren't going to see the best of any of them without others playing well too. Other teams seem to manage it but we can't.

Decent first half showing. Awful second half.

Ever since SAF retired we've had good and bad halfs with every manager, yes we even had good halfs under Moyes believe it or not.
The perfect example of the disparity in halfs would be our game against Liverpool at Anfield in LVG first season.Absolutely perfect first half performance yet in the second half we seemed to be doing our level best in getting Liverpool back into the game. And Liverpool were playing with 10 men !

I think we should not forget to give credit to the other team too. In the prem it's hard to dominate teams for long periods but I do think when we are on top, we don't score enough goals....

He's been shockingly bad and extremely frustrating to watch. I've never seen a supposed 'world class player' surrender possession as much as him. I'll not complain if he's dropped.

He doesn't have pace or dribbling anymore to play a wide man. Needs to adapt like what Ronaldo did and be converted to a striker. Let the others create for him. That's the only possible way to get anything from him now.

Exactly ! Wenger might have realised that so he oakyws him in central in his last days at arsenal !

Close to lukaku in 343 or 353 system might work with Alexis in central role

Agree. For me he could do nothing for 89 minutes, but if he scores or creates a chance and we win 1-0, job done. Every game he's plays he gives 100% and I honestly don't understand why this alone doesn't adhere him to fans. I think when a player comes from a rival team, if they weren't liked then that taints them. Some players like Pogs, Sanchez and even Rom will always be criticised even when they are contributing.
We’ve got enough players filling up our “at least he gives 100% sheets - Lukaku, Lingard, Fellaini, Young, Herrera, Smalling, etc. We rightly expect far more than that from the most expensive player in the league

He is not disciplined enough to play as a striker, roams too much in search of the ball, also a reason why playing him as a 10 is tricky.

I think people forget other teams adapt and make changes to counter the issues they face in the first half.

You then have to adapt to the adaptation if you will and we don't seem to do that.

Until he starts scoring goals, his performances simply won't be enough for his position. We are not paying him the GDP of Gibraltar to simply look busy, create 1-2 chances and bag an assist every 2 games.

He needs to hit double figures in goals this season, or else he is a failure.

Hate to say it but he's been absolute shite.

We acquired him (I assume) to help add creativity to our play and unlock defences. What does he actually do? Lots of running off the ball into spaces which just aren't there. He kills our counter attacks. It also seems he's forgot how to strike a ball. Everything he does is a struggle..it's almost as if he never has full control of the ball.

The only realistic option is if a Chinese club comes in for him. There's not a chance in hell how anyone else will pay the ridiculous wages we offer him.

I cannot understand why we haven’t tried him at RW. He has played their before for Arsenal and Chile. Let’s be honest he won’t be any worse there then on the left or through the middle. Instead we are pursisting with him at LW where we have Rashford and Martial while we have nobody for RW. It makes no sense.

Agreed.

One of life’s greatest mysteries.

I mean we haven’t even thrown him out there for a few minutes. I’m beginning to think it’s a stipulation in his contract!

As bizarre as that sounds it may be possible. I was sure he was signed for our right wing but he doesn’t even drift over there during the game.

I was looking forward to rotating forwards with Martial/Rashford, Lukaku and Sanchez changing positions during the game but we are so fixed with him on the left.

This. This is actually really true. Times are changing, gone are the days of fitter and more physical top 4 sides. All the teams in the premier league has their own sports science and fitness regime that is up to the highest standard.

What win matches nowadays is match tactics and superior technical

Premier league is just in fact, the hardest league in the world. Watford is a great PL side for years now.

If we played quicker on attack, this guy is ideal, he seems to always run into trouble when in possesion, but can pick a cross out ie Burnley. Works hard, but there seems to be a bit missing.

If you look at the average position maps for a few of the games this season, Lukaku spends a lot of time in the inside right channel. Perhaps Jose feels that if Alexis plays on that side he'll get crowded out and it'll be easier to nullify him. Whereas if he plays on the left, he can take advantage of the space created by Lukaku dragging both CB's to the other side and theoretically have an easier time popping up in goal-scoring positions when the ball gets played into the box.

Some aren't even doing that. I think it's a stupid argument about how much he costs when in reality, it was because there was no signing on fee. For me signings like Sanchez, Pogs and Rom were never going to be fans favs cause the expectations far far exceed the reality. They focus on individuals when clearly it's those also around the high profile players that equally contribute to getting the best out of them. We talk about Messi and Ronaldo but look at the world class ability of those players around them. Even Ronaldo here played with Utd legends.
Not saying Sanchez has been great but who here has been?

I can guarantee you he wouldn't be having this problem if he had gone to City.

The technical ability of the lower league teams has significantly improved and most have a player that wouldn't look out of place in a top 4 team. Watford certainly did and when we play Wolves, the have a few too.....

Correct. The way I view premier league is different from the old days..

Always expecting a comeback even from the lower sides in the table. Always put me on the edge! I love it so much.

Indeed. As one of the main attackers in the 4-3-3 he has to score at least 15 goals and 5-10 assists minimum. So far he is falling well below the expectations. For starters he shouldn't play LW anymore. Doesn't have the dribbling quality or speed to get away from defenders. He is trying to be a playmaker but is too loose in possession to make that change.

I think that he was good against Watford. He was always on the ball, some good passing and crossing. But yes, he must start to score goals.

I thought he played well.

He gave the ball away tons at Arsenal too. That's the kind of player he is,but once he starts scoring those stats like at Arsenal will be forgotten about.

Players like this always give the ball away cheaply at times but usually but they offset it by creating chances rather than playing a simple pass, which he has been doing but not getting much credit for it because they're not being finished, the way I see it if a player gives the ball away 5-6 times but creates 2 good chance you can make an argument fot him having had a decent game.

I'm still very confident he'll turn out to be a top signing here, he will benefit from playing more and more with Shaw, who will create space on the overlap and provide a quicker interchange than Young due to not needing to switch to his right foot. The big name players who have flopped centre have done so due to mental fragility, one thing Sanchez certainly won't be guilty of.

1 league goal from open play in 15 starts. Sometimes new players need more time to bed in but he's been atrocious so far. Can't imagine Rashford/Martial being so unproductive. When Sanchez arrived in January, Martial had scored 3 goals in that month alone.

Or Lukaku could actually do what he is supposed to do and play through the middle and Sanchez could stretch the right side and Rashford/Martial could stretch the left side then we will have a proper balanced attack

He is like Torres in 2011.

Not half the player he was, some people still in denial and clutching at straws looking for a miraculous recovery.

Apparently Smalling has scored more than Sanchez in 2018, I mean no one is expecting Messi like stats or anything here. My point is the bar is not that high, he is yet to reach a period of consistency like Martial and Rashford reached last year.

Simply look busy, create 1-2 chamces and bag basically 19 assists over the season? Who the hell in our team will do better than that? :D

Yes, the "he didn't have proper preseason" is down the drain and so is the "he hasn't had a summer off for so long". I don't know what next, it will probably be "Woodward signed him for selling t-shirts".

Ya that’s what I presumed too. I mean we were clearly well stocked at LW so it made sense that he wouldn’t be playing there. We have potential for a very fluid front three but they just aren’t being utilized properly.
