Alexandre Pato

If he's fit and not lost his pace this might be a very good idea. He's always been a huge talent. We need someone capable of big performances. Worth a shot IMO IF he hasn't gone all Falcao. Wouldn't cost much too imagine.

Why shocked? We took falcao and he can't run

There is zero options on the market right now. The thought of going all season with Rooney plodding the way he's been..

Pato still has pace, can play centrally and on the wing. He's played enough games to suggest his worst injuries are behind him and he's fit. I'd take a punt on him

Exactly why, mate. Once bitten, twice shy.

I know the thought of going all season with only Rooney is a scary one, though the one with Pato as his back-up isn't much comforting either.

I haven't seen him in while, so really can't comment on his injuries and current quality. Just the idea of a player who couldn't cut in the Italian league with a declining Milan team, doesn't enthral me.

It's a very important positon, we don't have very many goals in this team, we should do it right. Even if we have to massively overpay for someone.

Heard Rivaldo is still playing........feck me

He has been scoring a lot of goals in Brazil. Granted, it isn't the best league in the world, but still.
25 goals in 74 league matches isn't a lot. He didn't exactly shine in Brazil either, Corinthians didn't want him there and hence loan him out. Wasn't the same player anymore as far as I am concerned.

feck me fellas - who seriously would want this dud?
Given the poor league he plays in, scouts from every club needing a striker would have watched him and, due to lack of interest, reported him insufficient, yet there are folk on here willing to take a punt on him at the cost of Wilson's development.
We need someone to score goals and push Rooney, not someone to keep Hernandez company on the bench.

I'd rather take a punt on the most promising young forward in the Brazilian leagues, and I don't even know who that is!

Gabriel Barbosa ('Gabigol')

Would cost a lot more, but yes, would clearly be a better bet.

also does not have enough international appearances or a european passport (to the best of my knowledge - certainly not on FM either)
So unless we try the special talent route - which is by no means guaranteed as the FA have essentially said they want to massively reduce its use then we could well be stuck with an expensive player we have to loan out for a couple of years abroad in the hope he develops into somebody we can one day actually legally play.
looks a talent but without an EU passport it seems unlikely

Don't see why it's an issue as a back-up for low cost. And if he gets back to 80% of his best, he'd be a better option than Rooney.

Apparently available for £8 million, seems to be over his injuries. Would be a great coup if he ended up back to early AC Milan level.

Can understand why people think he's a risk, but he seems over his injuries and his move back to Brazil wasn't because nobody in Europe wanted him.

If he's injury free and more professional than sure, take a punt.

But his lack of professionalism is probably why not many clubs in Europe would take him.

Some players might look cheap if you check how much QPR is asking for Austin (around 15 mil,if reports are true).

Wilson will never even get to the level Pato was at a few years ago if we are being frank. I'd like to be proven wrong but can't see it.

That's why I'd chance a loan, At least it would keep him motivated in the meantime until next Summer when a better option may be available.

The amazing thing is that he's still only 25-26. Still, it's hard to think of too many players who have been out in the wilderness as long as he has, only to make a triumphant return at the highest level. It's one thing for Bojan to succeed at Stoke; asking Pato to come back from Brazil and lead Man United is a very different proposition.

With the last of the Da Silva crocks off we're running short of injury prone free loaders whose only at the club to pick their salary

As a result of Rooney's uninspiring performances, it seems that we can get excited about any striker, as long as their name isn't Rooney.

Unless we make an exception for Aberdeen's Adam Rooney. Scored 28 goals last season. That's more than Pato. Sign him up.

Pato would be brought here as back up if we signed him.....The Brazilian league is not as fast and physical ans England so he could well flop.....There's a very talented player in his but perhaps at this stage we'll never get to see that potential fulfilled

How much have you seen of Pato in the last few years? You are probably basing all of this on his former time at Milan. Don't you get anything about United and Youth?
Getting Pato would be a disaster and pointless.

I haven't seen much of him at Sao Paulo but I watched him a fair bit at Corinthians. Anyway I was talking about the Milan \ Brazil period in my statement.

Yeah of course I get it, as much as every other United fan. Doesn't mean Wilson will get to that standard just because he comes from the academy though.

No, your right, we should take the decision he isn't good enough now and bring in some washed out, foreign mercenary instead.
You don't get United at all mate.

What does this have to do with Wilson? He's clearly not ready yet.

Would be nice to see what he could do with a regular chances
He looked like a kid in big boys game when he played last season. Needed more time to develop at that stage. When he's at the level of the likes of janzuaj I'm sure he'll get his shot (unless he's improved massively since?).

I feel like we should have mods insert "[Muppetry]" at the end of thread titles so we'd all get it.

Or maybe not because we wouldn't be having fun/wasting time discussing this Pro Evo transfer.

The muppetry bit is inferred since its in the transfer forum. :)

There's been some Brazilian football on BT sport and I've seen him play a couple of times, he's still quick and skillful but anything more than a loan or a very low fee would be too risky.

not bad.

hes the king of 1v1 with a keeper from any angle
